Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous Ann to host this week and she has a seasonal theme challenge for us to work with:

We have a fun challenge for you this week - 'signs of summer'. As the weather has warmed up here in the UK this past week I am definitely seeing signs of summer in my garden! The swimming pool is out, the parasol is up and the BBQ is lit. One of my main indulgences when summer comes is ice cream - I love it! - so I decided that should definitely feature on my card today. I paired mine with the sketch layout over at Global Design Project to create a card good enough to eat - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Sweet Ice Cream - My triple-scoop ice cream cone comes courtesy of the Sweet Ice Cream bundle: a stamp set and co-ordinating ice-cream cone builder punch. Punches are great for quick and easy cards and my ice cream came together really quickly as a result. I added some spots to the scoops and waffle detailing to the cone and fussy cut a sentiment from the same set for the front of my card, which I finished off with a birthday greeting inside:

Ice Cream Corner - The colours on my card today were taken from the Ice Cream Corner designer series paper. Whilst the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set and punch is carrying over into the annual catalogue, the paper isn't. This is now sold out in the UK; there are lots of bundles carrying over from the suites that feature in the January-June mini catalogue, but the papers and accessories often don't. Lots of them are now discounted whilst stocks last, so if you like any of them, now is a good time to stock up before they are gone for good.

Ice Cream Texture - Once I'd stamped my scoops of ice cream, I ran them through my diecutting machine with the Painted Texture Embossing Folder for some added texture and detail - you can just see it on the photo below:

I don't need any reason to treat myself when it comes to ice cream, so I might need to send this card to myself!

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous LeAnne to host this week and as it's the fifth Sunday of the month we have a tic-tac-toe challenge board for you to work with:

I went down the first column of our TicTacToe board with blue/die-cut/heat embossing and decided to use Jen's Freshly Made Sketches layout and make another slimline card that was totally inspired by the fabulous nautical photo over at The Card Concept - take a look: 

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Sailing Home - I took the inspiration for my 'clean and layered' card from The Card Concept's great nautical inspiration photo this week, specifically the cushion at the top of the photo, with the blue and red stripes on cream. I incorporated these into my design but decided to change out the anchor for the sailboat that features on the central cushion as it fitted better with my sentiment, as I wanted to make a congratulations/good luck for the future-type card. I heat-embossed the large sailboat from the 'Sailing Home' stamp set in white on Night of Navy then diecut it with my Come Sail Away dies. A 'thank you' too to the team over at The Card Concept for choosing this card as one of their Honourable Mentions recently and for their kind comments on a card that felt quite out of my comfort zone but was totally inspired by their awesome photo!

A Beautiful World - For my sentiment I used both the retired stamp set 'Beautiful World' and paired it with one of my favourite diecuts from the retired Summer Silhouettes dies - the long, slimline design is perfect for showcasing the long 'adventure' diecut, which I cut a couple of times and glued together for added height. I also added another stamped greeting from the same stamp set to the inside of my card:

A Cautionary Tale - So I'm sure you are looking at today's card and thinking it came together really quickly; to be fair, if I made a second one it probably wouldn't take long at all. For this one that was not the case though! I spent quite a bit of time deciding on which nautical elements to incorporate on my card and then just as I had everything stuck together, I decided my card needed a little something extra so decided to add a trio of stamped gulls. And that was where the disaster happened! I missed one part of one of the gulls, and then slipped with my stamp-a-ma-jig when I went back in to correct. So what to do? Luckily I managed to remove the top vanilla panel with some dental floss (such a craft room life-saver!) and then I removed the top portion and replaced with another one, with birds correctly stamped before I glued into place. Crisis averted - and let that be a lesson to you: don't glue everything down until you are completely sure your stamping is complete! I do like the addition of the birds though, so it was worth it:

This is one of those cards that I would not have made without the photo that inspired it, but I love it! What do you think? Do you like the current trend for slimline designs? Do leave me a comment below, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I decided that Jaydee's sketch was the perfect opportunity to get to work with my Expressions in Ink suite. As is often the way, the first card that I make when I open a new suite for the first time ends up including a bit of everything, and today's card is no exception - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Expressions In Ink - The starting point for today's card was the beautiful 'Expressions In Ink' specialty designer series paper that is the cornerstone of the suite of the same name and that features on the front cover of the new annual catalogue. Full of patterns made from alcohol inked backgrounds with gold embossed detail, these papers are stunning! I chose a heavily patterned floral design with gold embossed detail and added it to the top portion of my card.

Artistically Inked - I used the 'Artistically Inked' stamp set to stamp a Magenta Madness flower and two pairs of leaves, along with a heat-embossed sentiment on the front of my card. These are distinktive stamps that also have that watercoloured or alcohol-inked effect. I die cut these elements with the co-ordinating Artistic Dies. I also added a sentiment and another stamped flower to the inside of my card:

Touches of Gold - I added lots of additional touches to my floral focal point to make this a rather special card - gold foil diecut leaves, Pale Papaya ribbon (cut in half lengthways), gold twine and gilded gems for an added touch of luxury:

I just adore this suite - I think it is my favourite of all of the new suites in the catalogue. If it's a favourite of yours too, you are going to want to come back again this week as I have made lots more cards that I will be sharing with you. So much so, I am already running out of this paper - I will be needing to order more of that this week!!

There is swim squad training for both James Juniors and then Master James has a football-themed birthday party to attend in the afternoon too. I'm just hoping it stays dry - cricket was cancelled again yesterday - and for once not because it was raining, but this time because we have had so much rain so far this last week and in May as a whole that the cricket pitches were saturated. The poor boy has yet to wear his new cricket kit this year - at this rate he will have grown out of it before he gets the chance!

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous Anne Marie to host this week and she has a clean and simple challenge for you to work with:

This week's challenge is all about polka dots - how fun! Remember it's clean and simple week too, which means:

• Minimal layers
• Little to no embelllishments
• Lots of clean, white space (no pattern)

I was considering my options as far as polka dots are concerned and actually made a couple of cards for you today: the first one uses the 'Lots of Hearts' bundle from the current mini catalogue - take a look:

These hearts are just perfect for today's challenge as they have both a stamped polka dot and a die that creates a heart shape from diecut polka dots. I paired these with an outline heart and used the sketch over at Inspired By this week for my layout, along with coral, peach and lemon yellow as my three neighbouring colours from the Color Dare challenge wheel (see badges above). With some polka dot DSP behind, there are lots of dots on my card, whilst still retaining a CAS feel:

I also added a few more inside, with a continuation of my sentiment in the corner to allow lots of space for uninterrupted writing:

When I think 'polka dots', I immediately think Minnie Mouse (no apologies from this Disney fan!) so I couldn't resist another card with some punch art featuring the second most famous mouse of all time:

I went unashamedly pink with this card, using the Stitched with Whimsy dies to outline my rectangle and added a fussy cut sentiment from the 'Happiest of Birthdays' set to finish:

This is my favourite of the cards that I created this week - so simple, but super cute!

I thought I was going to run a mile when I saw Laurie's colour palette for this week, but a happy accident meant that I actually had my card made well ahead of time for a change! Take a look at my card then I'll explain:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Pampered and Playful Pets - I decided that today's colours would work perfectly for a pet sympathy card featuring the 'Pampered Pets' stamp set. I heat embossed the outline of one of the dogs in black onto basic grey cardstock and made him the centrepiece of my card. I did use some of the recently retired Playful Pets DSP for my background panel for some black and red detail and added a big red heart behind my puppy for an added pop too. 

For Your Loss - I added one of the sentiments from the set to my scalloped square beneath my focal image - I think this sentiment is just perfect to let someone know you are thinking of them when they have lost a furry friend:

A Step Up - The reason today's card came to quickly to me was that I had all of these elements out on my desk when I needed to make this card; I needed something much more clean and simple for my original card, but since I had the bits and pieces out on my desk, I decided to make a stepped up version - and that turned out to be perfect for today's challenge. Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's my turn to host this week and I have a fun theme challenge for you to work with:

Are you familiar with the nursery rhyme: 'What are little boys made of?' It inspired my theme this week and the fabulous badge that our teamie Nance made illustrates it perfectly. So whether you choose to feature snails, puppy dogs, superheroes, or anything else that works for you, my theme this week is cards for boys. I'm making the most of the last couple of days of retiring favourites before the new annual catalogue arrives, so I chose to go with a zany zebra (or two!) for my card, using Julee's current Mojo Monday sketch layout which was great for some simple layering of retiring papers too - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I used a mix of Playing With Patterns DSP for my layers as I think these colours have a fun masculine feel and stamped one of the zebras from the 'Zany Zebras' stamp set in Night of Navy, adding some Wink of Stella to his mane, then fussy cut it before adding to my card. A sprinkle of resin dots finished my card front:

I added another of the zebras, this time with a party hat, to decorate the inside of my card:

I love these cute zebras and think they make fun a fun birthday card for a young boy. If you're a fan too, you have until tomorrow to get your hands on a set before they are gone forever! I will have another card for boys using them later this week - they might be retiring, but I'm not ready to part with mine just yet!

I actually made a second card for our challenge this week that was altogether more clean and simple. It is based on last week's Freshly Made Sketches sketch and uses another of my favourite retiring sets, Silhouette Scenes:

I masked off a column and created an ombre blended strip of sky using Balmy Blue, Pacific Point and Night of Navy inks and my blending brushes, and added the little boy with a toy aeroplane and a sentiment from the same set in Night of Navy, then added a simple 'Happy Birthday' sentiment to the inside using a stamp from 'Itty Bitty Greetings'. I love the simplicity of this card, and the way that the silhouette image overlays the ombre blended panel:

This is what I affectionately like to call a 'kitchen sink' card - because it uses pretty much everything but the kitchen sink! It features three new in-colours: Soft Succulent, Evening Evergreen and Polished Pink, along with the Pansy Patch stamp set and co-ordinating Pansy Dies, two different patterns of Pansy Petals designer series paper, some Polished Pink open weave ribbon and even a little gold Bumblebee trinket:

I wanted to get to grips with the layering of the pansy dies so this card was a great way to do that. I did go to town with my new goodies this week - I just couldn't help myself!! I'm linking today's card up with the team over at SUO Challenges where the theme is designer series paper; I really should have used it as an opportunity to use up some of my retiring paper, but when I came to make my card the pansies won out! I finally received my first pre-order from the new annual catalogue on Friday so couldn't wait to have a play! I decided to take the current Fusion sketch layout and this week's colours over at Just Us Girls to test drive one of my new stamp sets - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Party Puffins - Today's card features a trio of Party Puffins from the new stamp set of the same name. This is such a cute new set; for my card today I stamped and fussy cut two puffins and a birthday cake for the front of my card and popped them up on dimensionals. The third puffin? He was hiding out on the inside of my card:

Black and White ... - This week's theme is 'clean and simple', so a focus on white space, limited layers and little/no embellishments. With this in mind the Fusion sketch was perfect for constraining my design to no more than half of my card front. I used a strip of black-on-white geometric patterned paper from the True Love DSP pack to ground my design and tie in with the black and white of my puffins:

... And A Trio of Colour - I grounded each of my stamped elements on a stitched square in one of the JUGS challenge colours and used the same trio of Blends combos to add colour to my cake and the legs, beaks and party hat of my puffins:

Are these cheeky little chappies not the cutest?! I just love them! Not to long to go until they go on general sale; the new 2021-22 Stampin' Up! annual catalogue will be live on 4th May. I used Julee's Mojo Monday sketch and another of my favourite retiring stamp sets to create some less-than-traditional florals - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Beautiful Friendship - I chose to create a cluster of florals as the centrepiece for today's card using the 'Beautiful Friendship' stamp set. I thought those large, loose-petalled roses would be perfect in Merry Merlot, with some grape hyacinths in Misty Moonlight, along with some Crumb Cake leaves. This is not only my most favourite floral stamp set in the retiring annual catalogue, it is I think one of my favourite floral stamp sets of all time (and a keeper for sure!) 

Well Written - I decided to add a diecut sentiment using the retiring Well-Written framelits to the front of my card, cutting the word 'friend' twice and offsetting it to give a shadow - you can see the detail closer in the image below:

A ribbon bow tied with twine finished the front of my card.

And Finally - In addition to the stitched scallop rectangle that I used on the front of my card, I stamped the greeting from the stamp set on a stitched rectangle and added it to the centre of the inside of my card, along with a stamped corner floral detail:

I thought I would struggle with this colour combination, but I actually really liked LeAnne's colour choices this week. I'm also linking today's card up over at Just Add Ink - my card features petals and leaves as my chosen 'two'.

Today it's Easter Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous Jaydee to host this week and she has a timely theme challenge for you to work with:

For me tulips, along with daffodils, are the epitome of spring flowers.I don't have any current daffodil stamps so I decided to go with tulips. I used the sketch layout over at Inspire.Create and the Easter colour inspiration over at Color Dare, choosing bright Magenta tulips with green leaves and a subtle So Saffron spots and stripes background, inspired by those yellow marshmallow bunnies in the photo. Here's my card:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Timeless Tulips - I used the 'Timeless Tulips' stamp set for my flowers, stamping the stems in Granny Apple Green directly onto my panel and the either punching or fussy cutting my flower heads and leaves. I also added a couple of frosted epoxy droplets to mimic raindrops:

Ornate Layers - I mounted my bunch of tulips onto a white panel cut with one of the Ornate Layers Dies; I like the small amount of detail around the panel - just enough to add interest without detracting from my flowers. I heat-embossed my sentiment, also from the Timeless Tulips stamp set, and snipped it into pieces, adding the first two pieces to the front of my card then stamping the remainder inside with a small tulip bud for decoration:

Raffia Ribbon - You may not recognise the ribbon that I used to tie a bow around my bunch of blooms; it's actually a strip of In Colour Magenta Madness 1/4" Ribbon. I cut the edge off and stripped the vertical strands away to create a soft, raffia-like bunch of threads to make my bow. I love to try and use our ribbons in different ways - do you ever do things like this with items in your stash?
