by Joanne James14. January 2015 21:23Back again with another quick card for this week's challenge over at As You See It, where we are playing along with this sketch for inspiration:
I was lucky enough to be chosen as the ASYI Featured Artist for my entry last week - thank you ladies! You can see that card here. For this week's entry I couldn't resist using that little Bow Builder punch again - take a look:
I went with a really simple layout with a couple of banners, one of which features some of the gorgeous 'Best Day Ever' Sale-A-Bration DSP and instead of adding my sentiment to the banner, I chose to allow it to take centre stage with a two-tone chalkboard sentiment in aquamarine and yellow citrus, finished with a Crushed Curry punched bow. Wouldn't that make a nice thank you card for someone?
Back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James14. January 2015 12:01I haven't managed to blog the last couple of days as there's just been too much going on. Whilst I was intending to blog later today, I thought I would just share with you a card that I made with the ladies in my Technique Card Class this week, as it features two if the punches that are available on Wednesday Weekly Deals this week. My card was heavily inspired by this one by Inge Groot that a saw a couple of weeks ago. Here is my altered version, in the colourway that we made in our class:
The technique class featured the new Chalkboard paper and all the different ways in which you can use the lovely new chalk inks that are now available in the Spring-Summer catalogue. These inks have a fabulous soft chalk effect on the new Chalkboard paper; here we used it to stamp the tag from the 'You Brighten My Day' stamp set, yours free with a £45 spend during Sale-A-Bration, and behind this added some black and white baker's twine, some of the Best Year Ever ribbon and buttons (another Sale-A-Bration freebie) and a strip of cardstock punched with the Hearts Border Punch. All of this was mounted on a feature mat in Pink Pirouette that we embossed with the new Happy Heart embossing folder. I also made two more cards to the same design, but in two alternative colourways. This one is Aquamarine chalk in on Coastal Cabana, with Crushed Curry accessories:
Lastly, Yellow Citrus chalk ink and So Saffron, with Calypso Coral accessories:
I like that these cards are quite subtle, despite the bright appearance of the chalk ink in the pad itself - it's quite deceiving. Both the Note Tag punch and the Hearts Border Punch are on offer this week as part of the Wednesday Weekly Deals, as is the What's Up punch that also co-ordinates with the house stamp in the 'You Brighten My Day' stamp set. If this stamp set appeals to you and you would like to be able to create today's card, the following product bundle costs £47.87, includes both punches and would enable you to acquire the key supplies and get the stamp set for free:
All you need to add is the cardstock in the colours of your choice, a button and some ribbon from your stash. For everyone that buys this bundle from my online store this week and uses the hostess code 44JKUBHY, I will send you a separate little thank you gift from me in the post.
Back soon with another creative post; until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James11. January 2015 07:00It's Sunday and time for this week's challenge over at The Paper Players, where today Anne has a great colour challenge for us:
I also used the current sketch over at The Deconstructed Sketch as the basis for the layout of my card. So for my card today I've had the first opportunity to play with one of my most favourite products from the new Spring-Summer catalogue: the new 'Hello You' thinlits. I loved the Expressions thinlits we had previously and I still use mine and would never part with them, so I was delighted to see a whole new set of word thinlits in the new catalogue, and the fabulous 'Crazy About You' stamp set that co-ordinates with them. The number of sentiment possibilities are endless! Anyway, using Anne's colour choice today, this is what I came up with:
I went with a square card and lots of layers. The layers are Sahara Sand and Lost Lagoon, with the Sahara Sand DSP from the 'Moonlight' DSP paper stack. I die cut the word 'hello' from my central Sahara Sand square, then inlaid this with another 'Hello' diecut in Crisp Cantaloupe, allowing the Lost Lagoon from the layer below to show through into the negative space. I finished my sentiment with a 'you' stamped in Lost Lagoon on a banner of Whisper White, that I tucked under my Crisp Cantaloupe stamped flower. I diecut some leaves and a centre for my flower from Lost Lagoon cardstock using my Flower Frenzy Bigz Die, then finished it with a white button threaded with Crisp Cantaloupe thick baker's twine. I love how the 'Hello You' thinlit dies can be used in so many ways. Just look at the detail on this close-up:
I hope you like this card and are as crazy about the new thinlits dies as I am. Watch this space for lots more ideas from me!
We are back to hockey and rugby following the Christmas break today; no rest for the parents of sporty ones, it seems! At least dinner is prepared and will be in the slow cooker waiting for us on our return. Before you reach for your ink pads, do visit the other design team members to see what interesting ideas they've had this week:

by Joanne James10. January 2015 20:12Today I have another card using the moustache stamp from Well Worded. It was still out on my desk from this card that I made with it the other day, so I took the opportunity to use it again for today's card for this week's Freshly Made Sketches challenge; I also used the colours over at The Color Throwdown this week, where they are really suited to another Valentine's or anniversary card:
This one is definitely made with a man in mind - here is my card:
I layered a couple of rectangles of paper from the 'Stacked with Love' DSP paper stack onto a base of Basic Black cardstock (I am so making the most of my 'Stacked with Love' DSP!), then a Real Red heart cut out with my Hearts framelits and a moustache stamped in Memento Black onto Whisper White, which I then cut out with my mustache framelit and popped up on a couple of dimensionals. To finish, I stamped my hashtag sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed it in white.
Another simple, modern card that would work well for Valentine's Day, a wedding anniversary or just to say 'I love you' card.
I'm also linking up with the 4 Crafty Chicks, where the theme this week is anniversary cards.
Back tomorrow with this week's card for a new challenge over at The Paper Players; until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James9. January 2015 21:46Friday already - where did that week go?! I've had a lovely day today, with lots of people coming and going for my informal open house to showcase the best of this year's Stampin' Up! Sale-A-Bration offering. Today's card is one that I designed for this week's challenge over at Fusion where they are celebrating their first birthday - I used the photo inspiration but not the sketch, instead using the sketch over at Retrosketches this week for my layout:
The photo inspiration was the perfect opportunity to make a card with my new Chalkbox Chalk inks and blackboard paper, along with the 'Big Day' stamp set - yours free with each purchase of £45 or more during Sale-A-Bration. Here is my card:
On a base of Pink Pirouette, I added a few layers including another of the great patterns from the 'Stacked with Love' DSP stack. I stamped my chalkboard using Rose Coral chalk ink on blackboard paper, stamping the banner separately in pink and stepping up on dimensionals. I added a side tag, stamped with a sentiment from 'Simply Wonderful', another Sale-A-Bration set. I stamped the cake on pink cardstock and coloured with my Blendabilities pens and popped this up on glue dots. I also decorated the inside (but forgot to photograph it - doh!) The chalk inks have a lovely finish on the smooth blackboard paper that give a rather realistic finish.
I hope you like today's card; my technique class next week is featuring chalk inks and by popular request from my class ladies today this will be one of the cards that we will be making! If you live in or around Northampton and would like to join me for one of my classes, You can find my 2015 updated class schedule here. Crafters of all abilities are welcome so whether you've stamped before or fancy trying out a new hobby, do get in touch to find out more. We would love you to join us! Back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James8. January 2015 14:29I'm having a busy day today; productive though, so I'm not complaining! Today's post is a quick one - I'm sharing my card for Less is More this week where the colour challenge is to use black, metallic and one other colour on your card. Now I must confess, this card was embarrasingly quick to put together, but I am also rather pleased with the finished result - here it is:
I decided to use Basic Black for my card base, then layered with a red glimmer heart cut out with my Big Shot and Heart Framelits and topped with a black moustache onto which I stamped the corresponding stamp from the 'Well Worded' stamp set in Versamark and heat embossed in gold, before cutting out with my moustache framelit. To finish, I stamped my hashtag sentiment from the '#hello' stamp set and heat embossed in gold onto the base of my card. Simple right? It really is as easy as that! Don't get me wrong, I experimented with lots of different versions of this card before I decided on this one as my preferred version to share, but end to end you could produce this card in minutes - and who doesn't love a moustache?! I think this makes a great guy card, despite the glimmer.
That's all from me today; back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James7. January 2015 10:21Good morning everyone! Today I have my card for this week's challenge over at Create with Connie and Mary which uses a fun colour combo:
I was immediately drawn to the new 'Stacked with Love' DSP stack for my card, as the challenge colours are three of those that feature in the pack. As I was musing how to tie the colours in with the black elements and what stamps I should use, I saw this week's sketch over at Mojo Monday and knew immediately what direction I was going to go in. Here is my card:
I am always a little wary of mixing DSPs on a card; I am a secret hoarder of DSP yet tend to use it quite sparingly on cards and must confess that I wasn't sure that I was ever going to use the big ampersand piece of DSP on a card, yet the minute I saw this sketch I knew it would be perfect to tie the other DSP to my sentiment. I stamped the sentiment from the 'Yippee Skippee' stamp set in Versamark and heat embossed it in black so that it has a nice shine, (although it is difficult to see that from the photograph), having first stamped two hearts in the challenge colours, one overlaid on top of the other. The heart is from the Perfect Pennants set; today's card is a great example of how you can find sentiments and images in 'generic' sets that will enable you to make a themed card such as this one for an anniversary or Valentine's Day, without needing a theme-specific stamp set. I finished my card with some of the now retired satin ribbon from the seasonal catalogue as I liked the shine, but some 1/4" red cotton ribbon would work just as well.
That's my card for today; I'm off to stamp some more samples using my lovely Sale-A-Bration goodies ready for an informal Open House gathering that I'm hosting for my customers on Friday. If you love in or around Northampton and would like to attend, please get in touch for more details.
Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James6. January 2015 12:04Given that today is all about the start of Sale-A-Bration and the launch of the new Spring-Summer catalogue, today's card had to celebrate that! You can read the full scoop on my previous post here, but right now I'm sharing a card made with 2 of the 3 co-ordinating products that can be yours free with each £45 purchase and a new punch from the Spring-Summer catalogue that is sure to be a hit! I used the sketch layout over at As You See It for my card today:
Here is my rather 3-dimensional card today - check out those bows:
A simple card base of Sahara Sand, stamped with the 'Best Day Ever' stamp from the stamp set of the same name (the hearts are also from the same set) and decorated with some ribbons from the 'Best Year Ever' accessories pack. Instead of tying bows with this lovely silky ribbon, I decided to finish this otherwise simple card with some overstated punched bows, made using the new Bow Builder punch - how cute are they?! These are just perfect for decorating little treat boxes and gifts and are made in a jiffy - check out this video from Stampin' Up! that shows you just how easy they are to make:
How clever and easy is that?! I can see us all getting through a whole bunch of glue dots with these - don't forget to add those to your order!!
Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James5. January 2015 22:06I'm back today with a card for this week's challenge over at Pals Paper Arts, where they have this striking colour combination to play with this week:
My card today features another 'sneak peek' (only one more day to go!) - this time of a fabulous new stamp set from the new Spring-Summer seasonal catalogue called 'Painted Petals'. It's a lovely two-step stamp set that has some fabulous sentiments and was perfect for the card I had in mind today:
I used a base of Wisteria Wonder matted with Night of Navy and added a piece of silver striped vellum to this base. I stamped the flowers in Wisteria Wonder and Night of Navy on Whisper White, then stamped the sentiment in Versamark and heat-embossed in silver. I matted this stamped piece in Night of Navy and Wisteria Wonder then adhered this to my base. I added three navy candy dots to the bottom of the vellum panel to add balance to my image. I just love this stamp set and know it's one that is going to get lots more use this season.
That's all from me today - I hope you've all placed your final orders from the current Autumn-Winter catalogue and year-end closeouts, because we are all-change from tomorrow: Sale-A-Bration will be here and Spring-Summer is most definitely on its way!
Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James4. January 2015 07:00Welcome to my Sunday posting for The Paper Players where today Anne-Marie has a fun challenge to kick start us into the new year:
I also used Narelle's sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches for the layout of today's card. So "Everything Old is New Again" - use a recycled or re-purposed item on your project. So many possibilities! Here is my card for this week's challenge - can you see what my re-purposed item is?
I used the lovely bird stamp from one of the exclusive 2015 Sale-A-Bration stamp sets called 'A Happy Thing' which is perfect for colouring with Stampin' Up! Blendabilities. I'm not sure what bird this is supposed to be, but to me it looks like a kingfisher, hence my colouring with Pumpkin Pie and Bermuda Bay (yes, I know - a new colour coming in the Spring-Summer catalogue) Blendabilities. I cut my coloured image out with one of my circle framelits and mounted it on a window frame in Island Indigo. Did you identify my re-purposed item yet? It's my 'designer series paper' - the patterned paper is actually the inside cover of the Sale-A-Bration promotional wrapper that is attached to the outside of the new 2015 Stampin' Up! Spring-Summer catalogue! Take a look at the photo below and you'll see what I mean:
The moment I saw this paper I thought it would make a useful 'DSP' and it was perfect for the large expanse of background for today's card as the subtle pattern wouldn't detract from my stamped image and the blue-green colourway was perfect to suggest a watery scene for my bird. So not only does the new Spring-Summer catalogue have a ton of great new products for you, it comes with some free 'DSP' too! I have started distributing catalogues to my customers in readiness for this week's launch; if you are reading this and you don't have a Stampin' Up! demonstrator and would like to be added to my customer mailing list, then please do get in touch.
I'm off to start de-Christmas-ing the house; before you go off in search of items that you can recycle on your projects this week, do visit the other design team members to see what interesting ideas they've had this week:
