Another busy day today with a class this morning, a quick lunch with friends and school runs and piano lessons amongst other things! Today I'm sharing a card that I made for the current challenge over at As You See It. This is one of my favourite challenges (I love the sketches this team come up with) and having had a few problems at the back end of last year, I am delighted they are now back on fighting form with their challenge in full swing. I missed the first challenge of the year but was determined to play along with this one. Here is the current AYSI sketch:

This sketch is a great opportunity to use a stamped panel or to showcase a piece of designer series paper. I went with the latter and needed an anniversary card - here's what I came up with:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Falling In Love - I used a piece of Falling in Love paper for the panel on my card. A marriage of romance and shabby chic (the catalogue byline, not mine) these pretty patterns featuring ditsy florals, lace and bokeh patterns have an ethereal and dreamy quality. I paired mine with Very Vanilla and Tip Top Taupe cardstock; interestingly this isn't one of the feature colours in the suite (the neutral is Sahara Sand) but I think the slightly stronger brown works well.

Falling For You - My sentiment comes from one of the two stamp sets in this product suite, Falling For You. It includes some beautiful paired sayings, including this one that I stamped on the inside of my card to go with my outer anniversary wishes:

Ribbons and Lace - I wanted to keep my card flat and post-friendly, so chose to embellish it simply with a flat bow in the Very Vanilla 1/4" satin ribbon and a couple of the lace doilies. The new doilies have a very pretty pattern and are also printed Very Vanilla on one side and white on the other, so quite versatile.

Happy Monday everyone! I've had a busy day today with the first of this month's classes. I'll share some of those projects later in the week, but for today I wanted to share a simple little lidded box that I made with my Envelope Punch Board to hold some cute little Valentine's love notes. Now I didn't do the best job of photographing this one - the lid edges get a little lost against the background:

Sending Love Notes - Way back at Onstage last November we made three little notelets using the Sealed with Love Bundle. I modified mine slightly, cutting down the panels of Sending Love patterned paper and adding each one to a 3 1/2" Whisper White card base. I designed a few more using the other stamps in the set and made a bunch of co-ordinating envelopes and decided to make a little box to keep them all in. 

Love My Envelope Punch Board - Not only did I use my Envelope Punch Board to make my designer series paper envelopes (each made to fit a card of 3 1/2" square and requiring a 6" square piece of paper) but I also used my Box Buster tool to help me design a 4" square lidded box to hold them in. I love making lidded boxes usign the EPB rather than a scoreboard, as it makes them much more sturdy and rigid. It's really easy to do - you just need to make your lid 1/8" larger than your base for a snug fit.

Ribbon and Hearts - I continued the red and white theme of my project by adding a triple loop of Sending Love Ribbon with a double bow to adorn my sassy red Valentine-embossed heart to complete my box embellishment.

It's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of my sweet friend Claire to host this week and she has a timely theme challenge for us to work with:

I've been sharing lots of Valentine's-themed cards with you in recent weeks, almost all of which have featured the Sealed With Love bundle and Sending Love Designer Series Paper. For today though I wanted to go back to some products in the annual catalogue that would make a Valentine's card but are not designed specifically with that in mind. I had a few bits and pieces out on my desk, then when I saw this week's inspiration photo over at Fusion I knew exactly where I was headed - I even used the sketch layout too (turned through 90 degrees). Here's what I came up with:

A Quilt Of Love - I drew inspiration from a number of elements of the Fusion photo for my card: the border of pink flowers (courtesy of the Jar of Love stamp set), the cream textured panel (created with the Happy Heart Textured Impressions Embossing Folder) and the red flower-entwined heart as a focal point. My colour scheme also came directly from the photo - here it is if it's one you would like to save to use too:

Have A Heart - I die cut the heart from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits set and embellished this with flowers from the Jar of Love set and leaves from Swirly Bird too. 

A Gift Of A Sentiment - The sentiment on my pale pink banner comes from the exclusive hostess set 'A Gift of Love'. I love the soft script of the sentiments in this set and think this one is such a lovely way to let someone know how much they mean to you. 

I think this is a pretty Valentine's card that makes a softer alternative to the bright red and white colour schemes of my previous cards. I'm also linking up with the team over at SUO Challenges where they are also celebrating Valentine's this week.

My cold has really got the better of me these last couple of days, hence the absence of blog posts. Back with it today though; I have a quick share of another card made with a free Sale-A-Bration set that also uses a fun and easy technique - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

A Shadow Thank You - I stamped the large thank you stamp from the 'So Very Much' in Blushing Bride then moved it very slightly up and to the left and stamped again in Sweet Sugarplum. A simple technique but effective, don't you agree? The thing that I really like about this stamp set - apart from the fact that it's FREE of course! - is the alternative option stamps to complete the thank you sentiment. The 'from all of us' in particular is an unusual stamp that you don't see very often.

A Teeny Tiny Gift - I decided I would add a little symbol of a gift next to the second part of my sentiment - this is taken from another Sale-A-Bration set, Any Occasion. This set is predominantly a collection of banners that work really well on pocket notelet-sized cards, but includes a few teeny tiny embellishments - the present, two hearts and a tassel - that work really well on lots of projects.

A Playful Palette - My strip of border paper is from the Playful Palette designer series paper stack and was the inspiration for my entire colour scheme. This card design would be a great way to use up odd strips of paper left over from other projects though and would work in lots of different colourways.

I've had a couple of blog-free days on account of having to juggle a few things around as I have one of my Juniors at home poorly this week. I think they may have given it to me too, but that's a story for another day! To make it up to you I'm sharing not one but two cards today, both using the most popular of the Sale-A-Bration free stamp sets. Here's the first one, a CASE of the card shown on page 5 of the Sale-A-Bration catalogue:

Here's the low-down on the above card:

Botanical Flower - The Avant Garden stamp set contains two very different flower stamps: the flower stem on the above card is a fine line drawing, almost like the ones you find in botanical plant identification books. Here it is simply coloured with a blender pen and my Daffodil Delight and Old Olive watercolour pencils, then fussy cut using my trusty paper snips. The second flower is a much more fluid, almost watercolour effect bloom - this is the one you can see on the card below, which is a CASE of the card on page 4 of the Sale-A-Bration catalogue, with the layout of the banner horizontal instead of diagonal and an alternative colourway. 

Easy Woodgrain - Do you recognise the background on this card? The ladies in my recent Sale-A-Bration class were keen to understand how I had created this background so full of texture; they were very surprised when I pointed out that it was actually one of the patterns in the Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper stack. This pad is choc-full of great patterns and designs, that make light work out of creating interesting backgrounds. So easy, it almost feels like cheating!

Texture Abounds - Whilst the paper adds texture in the pattern, this card has a lovely collage feel with all the other elements of added texture: a woodgrain embossed circle, a strip of burlap ribbon and piece of lace trim, along with a snippet of doily, some linen thread and a sprinkling of pearls.

Today I'm sharing a card that uses the sketch over at CAS(E) This Sketch and the clean and simple challenge over at CASology:

I'm a big fan of the sketches over at CAS(E) This Sketch and had quite a few interpretations on this one and for today chose to combine with the codeword over at CASology: Glisten. I love how a single word can really make you think creatively and sometimes takes your cardmaking into unexpected directions - here's my card:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

All That Glistens - When I consider the word 'glistens', I think of shining light, usually on water or frost, or maybe something transparent or translucent. I decided this sketch would be perfect to showcase a lone dragonfly, with sparkly, translucent wings. I stamped my dragonfly in Versamark onto vellum and heat embossed it in gold, then coated the wings with a liberal dose of clear Wink of Stella. I used Shimmer White cardstock which also has a subtle lustre and added some clear accents to act as raindrops and tie in with the theme. It is so difficult to capture the shimmer in a photograph - here's a close up:

Here's a further close-up of the dragonfly's wings, where you can just about see the sparkle from the clear Wink of Stella - it really looks so beautiful in real life:

A Dragonfly Dream - The single dragonfly is from the Dragonfly Dreams set in the Spring-Summer catalogue and was easily cut out using the co-ordinating Detailed Dragonfly Thinlit Dies. This is one of a number of bundles in the seasonal catalogue - if you buy both items you will save 10%. A great baargain - add a little something to it and you can benefit from a free Sale-A-Bration item too (with an order of £45 or more).

A Trick Of The Light - I added a panel of Serene Scenery designer series paper to the base of my card, to add a little colour and tie in with the theme with this 'bokeh' effect, which is often the resulting effect when light is photographed as it glistens on water or rain. Patterned paper can still feature in a 'clean and simple' design; the trick is to use sparingly; a good rule of thumb is to restrict its use to no more than one third of the overall card design.

It's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! I am your hostess this week and I have a sketch for you to work with:

When I came up with my sketch I had an idea about what I was going to do with it, yet when I came to make my card ended up going in a completely different direction -go figure! I'm still loving those patterns in the Sending Love Designer Series Paper Pack and just had to feature another one on my card today  - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Sending Love - My sketch allowed me the opportunity to showcase another of these gorgeous red and white patterns in the Sending Love stack; the large panel is perfect for a bigger pattern, so I decided to go with the white hearts on a red background. This was the starting point for my card, my mat, base and embellishments followed from there. 

This Card Is All Heart - I decided to replicate the heart pattern in my embellishment shapes and represented each of the diamonds in my sketch with a layered heart. Having heat-embossed the white stamped heart onto red and layered this onto white to echo my mat border, I felt it still needed a little something; I decided to add in an additional background heart in red glimmer paper and bingo! I backed my tiny hearts with a red glimmer one too; all cut with the Sweet & Sassy framelit dies.

Hugs And Kisses - I heat embossed my sentiment in white directly onto my card base. I love the delicate scripted font and it was perfect for the recipient of this card; my daughter has a love of all things sparkly so with the addition of the glimmer paper this has to be her valentine's card. I paired my 'hugs and kisses' with an 'I love you' on the inside - and finished with the flourish that is also featured in this set.

I've a second little project for you today - I can't give Miss Rebecca a Valentine's card without a chocolate treat , so here's a little something that took me just minutes to put together:

I took one of our clear boxes, filled it with chocolate hearts and added a belly band, some Sending Love red ribbon and a tag with some sweet Sending Love heart embellishments. I love that with just a few basic supplies I can turn a few chocolates into something special that I know my daughter will love.

Today I'm sharing two quick and easy cards using the Sealed With Love bundle that use the same layout for two different looks. The first one was inspired by this card by Mary Fish - but I wanted both my cards to be about 'sending love' rather than Valentine's Day specifically, to show just how versatile this bundle is. Here's my first card, where I simply switched out the sentiment for one from the Designer Tin of Cards stamp set:

For my second card I reversed the colour palette to 'red on white' as opposed to 'white on red' and paired the sentiment on the outside of the card from the 'Sealed With Love Set' with the words 'On Your Birthday' from the Popcorn stamp set on the inside:

Hearts To DIE For - On both of these cards, the heart edging die totally steals the show! It creates the perfect border for the strips of Sending Love designer series paper and is sized perfectly to border an A6 size card front. 

Sending Love - As I mentioned in Wednesday's post, the Sending Love designer series paper stack has some great paper patterns and designs that work for birthdays and general 'love' themed cards too, not just for Valentines. This design is great for using leftover strips of paper; 'waste not, want not' as the old saying goes! 

Not Just For Valentine's - The variety of images and sentiments in the Sealed With Love stamp set will take this set through February and beyond; who doesn't like to receive a little love note every once in a while?

It's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the lovely Jaydee to host this week and she has a clean and simple challenge for us to work with:

I decided that for today's card I was going to try and come up with a CAS card that featured a single flower. I originally started out stamping and played around with lots of different combinations before settling on a card using the negative space created using the Stylish Stems Framelits Dies. Here's my final card:

Unorthodox Floral Colour Combination - I took my colour combination from this week's challenge over at Fab Friday. I love how the pale blue and warm vanilla tone down the Sweet Sugarplum, which I sometimes find a little stark when paired with stronger colours. For the original card I was making, it worked perfectly (I'll share that card with you tomorrow and explain more then!) It does look slightly unorthodox here granted, given the simplicity of the design - what flower has a blue stem?! - yet I decided that since I love the colour combination and the card has a clean and contemporary feel, I would go with it. Who knows, maybe I'll start a new trend!

Layered Negative Space - When I first saw the Stylish Stems Framelits Dies in the Spring-Summer catalogue, I thought - do I really need another set of flower framelits? The answer though on closer inspection was a definite 'yes'; I'm a big fan of using the negative space created when using framelits and dies this set is actually designed with that in mind; the flowers and stem can be used both to cut a positive shape, by layering the outline with the inside shape together, but the inner piece can be used alone to make the negative space itself the focal point. So many creative possibilities! Using the layers of this week's sketch over at CAS(E) This Sketch for inspiration, I cut through a single layer of Very Vanilla cardstock to reveal my Sweet Sugarplum flower, then cut the stem through both the Very Vanilla and Sweet Sugarplum layers to reveal the Soft Sky cardstock layer below. All that cutting makes this CAS card great for the challenge over at CASology this week too.

For A Good Friend - Lastly, I added a sentiment from the co-ordinating 'Special Reason' stamp set that is perfect for a special friend. My placement is not strictly as per the sketch, as I needed it to have more prominence so stamped it on the Very Vanilla top layer. My card is destined for one of my very best friends to say thank you for entertaining the James family for dinner yesterday evening.

A super-simple clean and simple card with minimal supplies - I just love this set!
