Hey Rainbow Birthday Chick CCS 408

by Joanne James23. February 2021 13:00

It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge over at CAS Colours & Sketches. This week's challenge is a sketch challenge and Julie has asked that we use the following layout:

Feel free to flip or rotate the sketch when making your card. For my card today I am excited to use a new stamp set that I've been waiting for an age to arrive - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Hey Birthday Chick - Remember the 'Hey Chick' stamp set that was a Sale-A-Bration stamp set in 2017? Well, you may have noticed a set in the current mini catalogue called 'Hey Birthday Chick' featuring the same group of feathered friends, this time all ready to celebrate a birthday, complete with cake, balloon and party hat! I used that crazy chicken with the mad hair on my card today, featuring both the old one from the 'Hey Chick' set and the one with the birthday cake from the 'Hey Birthday Chick' set.

Chick and Birthday Chick Dies Exclusive - Not only are there the two chick stamps available, they are also available as part of exclusive bundles that will be available until 30 June. In addition to some great standalone dies, such as a fence, hen house, eggs, corn and a trellis, to name but a few, there are also dies to make cutting out any of the chicken shapes with ease. I used them to cut out one of my chickens to add a little dimension to my pair:

I am doing very well at meeting the CAS brief this week even if I say so myself, although I did take a small liberty with the sketch since my shapes are not identical. They would have been, but the temptation of the cupcake proved too much for chicken number one!!

Playing With Patterns - The colours for the rainbow colouring on my card today comes from the Playing With Patterns designer paper (Blends colours detailed below). Those subtle stripes were just enough to add interest to the base of my card.

My rainbow stripes and funky rainbow-feathered chicks are perfect for the colour theme of 'rainbow colours' over at Just Us Girls this week and I'm also playing along with my gal pals over at TicTacToe where Team O are in charge this week and I went down the first column of Jeanne's board with Cute Critter/Celebrate/Coloured.

Enjoy your day; the sun is shining here so since one of the James Juniors is officially on a Games lesson this afternoon, it looks like I am going to have company for a nice long walk. Following yesterday's announcement, we are officially on a two-week countdown to a return to school, so I think I need to make the most of it! I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Sale-A-Bration Hey Chick Peek A Boo Card

by Joanne James19. February 2017 22:00

I know technically it's still Sunday, but this is Monday's post as I want to link up to the Stamp Ink Paper challenge which closes late this evening - so I'm early! Here's their colour palette this week:

I'm also linking up with CAS Colours and Sketches as I used their sketch for my card, SUO Challenges who are looking for projects featuring Sale-A-Bration sets and the ladies over at TGIF Challenges where they have a 'birds of a feather' theme that my chickens are perfect for! I thought it was about time I broke out the most popular of all this year's Sale-A-Bration free gifts this year  - take a look:

This is the outside of my card - read on for more details and a fun reveal inside! Here's the low-down on today's card:

Hey, Chick - What's better than a new stamp set? Well, it has to be a new FREE stamp set, right? The comical chicks in the 'Hey, Chick' stamp set are proving the runaway success of this year's Sale-A-Bration promotion and could be yours free too with a purchase of £45 or more. I cropped the two large, feathered birds top and bottom using my Stitched Shape Framelits looking up and down respectively on the little 'egg on legs' and coloured with my Stampin' Write markers.

Peek A Boo - There is another chicken that features in this set, perhaps my most favourite of all - the crazy-haired Polish Frizzle Bantam White. Where's mine? Well, take a look inside my card where all will be revealed:

As the card is opened, the shutters pull back to reveal the funky chicken that I like to think hatched out of that egg - isn't that just the most fun? I like this card so much it's made the cut for my next Sale-A-Bration class - you can see details of my class listings here and I would love you to join me!

Playful Palette - Some Playful Palette designer series paper and some Bermuda Bay stitched satin ribbon complete my card.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

I'll be back on Tuesday with another project. Until then, enjoy the start to your week and happy stampin'!

Hey Chick, Happy Chinese New Year 2017

by Joanne James27. January 2017 11:12

Happy Friday everyone! Tomorrow is officially the start of the Chinese New Year, so whilst celebrations traditionally begin the day before with New Year's Eve I thought today would be a good day to share the Chinese New Year card I made for one of my husband's colleagues. I've made cards for this celebration previously and it can sometimes be a challenge as I don't have many oriental stamps or images,  but this year one of the Sale-A-Bration sets gave me the perfect focal point  - take a look:

 Here's the low-down on today's card:

Hey Chick, It's A Rooster - Each year in the Chinese calendar also follows the Chinese zodiac and is represented by a different animal: 2017 is the year of the (fire) rooster. I thought the fabulous large chicken, with its exaggerated features from the 'Hey Chick' Sale-A-Bration stamp set (yours free with a purchase of £45 or more) would pass as a rooster for the purposes of my card - isn't he grand?

Oriental Colour Combination - Red and gold is a popular colour combination in Chinese culture as it is seen to represent good luck and prosperity and the colour red in particular is said to ward away evil. A Chinese New Year tradition is the giving of red envelopes containing money, called lai see, usually from parents to children, or bosses to employees and is said to bring good wishes and luck, and it is the giving of the red envelope, rather than the money it contains, that is the most significant.

Happy New Year - Lastly, are you wondering which set my gold 'happy new year' stamp came from? I actually imported the Chinese characters into my Silhouette Cameo E-Cutter, but instead of cutting them out used a gold pen to write them onto my piece of red card and them filled in the outline with a gold marker. I'm not sure my lettering skills would have enabled such a faithful reproduction!

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

There are some really fun stamps in this set; I've lots of projects that feature them in a slightly more traditional away to share during the coming weeks, so stay tuned if they're your thing.

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!
