Lovely Lattice Kraft Birthday Card

by Joanne James11. March 2019 09:00

T

Happy Monday everyone! Today is the start of my class week, so it will b a busy one Chez James! Today's card is one I made that uses the current sketch layout over at Just Add Ink and the colour palette at Color Throwdown:

I thought these colours would be perfect for a birthday card featuring one of the Sale-A-Bration stamp sets, Lovely Lattice - take a look:

 Here's the low-down on today's card:

Lovely Lattice - There is lots you can do with this stamped image - many ways to colour it, and lots of options to cut it out and build layers and dimension with the flowers too - but I like it because the main image is one of those that can fill the card and there isn't much else required. I heat embossed my image in white onto Crumb Cake cardstock which really does show the detail of the lattice behind the flowers beautifully. For a free stamp set, this one really is rather pretty - and still available if you'd like to get your hands on it with a spend of £45 or more. Who doesn't love FREE product?!

Colour on Kraft - I decided to colour the image using my watercolour pencils, but dry with no added water for blending, as I wanted to see the pencil strokes; I used a combination of Gorgeous Grape, white and Basic Grey pencils, with a tiny spot of Crushed Curry for the flower stamens.

Birthday Wishes - The 'Lovely Lattice' stamp set is sentiment-free, so I reached for one of my favourites from the current Spring-Summer catalogue that you haven't seen me use much here on my blog but rest assured they will be a keeper for me, regardless of whether or not they carry over to this year's new annual catalogue: the Well Said bundle. The' Well Said' stamp set combined with the Well Written Framelits dies really are the perfect pair and allow you to create endless sentiment combinations. I added a piece of Gorgeous Grape mini striped ribbon behind my layered sentiment and a sprinkling of pearls to complete my card.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Sale-A-Bration Co-ordination Is Here and New Sale-A-Bration Items Added!

by Joanne James1. March 2019 09:00

It's Friday 1st March - the end of the week and a Happy St David's Day to all my Welsh friends reading this! Lots of business news today - so get comfy! First up - Sale-A-Bration Co-ordination!

From today until the end of the month, you can choose from a selection of exclusive, limited-time products that have been designed specifically to co-ordinate with existing Sale-A-Bration items - take a look at the items on offer:

If you're not a fan of fussy cutting, there are some super-useful framelits in there! A great stamp set that you'll be seeing me using and an interesting shaped label punch. If these new items appeal to you, just click on the links to these products in my online store  below:

Table built using Product Table Builder by The Crafty Owl - Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator.

Here's a sneak peek of a card we made in my last Sale-A-Bration class that is a CASE of one of the catalogue samples that shows just what a difference the Hop Around Framelits make - such a crisp, even border:

Next up: you all know that this year's Sale-A-Bration promotion will end on 31st March and in addition to hosting and joining benefits (you can read about those here) you also earn a free product for every £45/90 spend - you can see the existing items here and here.

Good news: from now until the 31st March, you will also be able to choose from a number of other items (you must use the special code as detailed as opposed to the usual item code to get one of these items free with a £45/90 spend):

As you can see, this new selection also includes the gorgeous Painted Seasons Designer Series Paper that is now available minus the stamp set that it comes with in the £90 spend bundle and can be yours free with a spend of £45 or more.

To make things easier for you, I've created a table linking each of the products directly to the promotional item in my online store - just click on the links below:

Table built using Product Table Builder by The Crafty Owl - Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator.

Remember, if you aren't placing your order via the above links, you need to use the special Sale-A-Bration item code for each product - these are different to the standard product codes for these items, which are still available to purchase in the annual catalogue.

If you would like more information or to place an order, either go here to purchase from my online store (don't forget to add this month's hostess code G44UFKHH) or you can email me or telephone me if you would prefer. I'm off to finish packing for the first of my Creative Escapes Craft Retreat which takes place this weekend - so exciting!

Back shortly with a new creative project; until then, happy shopping!

Home To Roost - A Free Sale-A-Bration Stamp Set

by Joanne James16. February 2019 19:00

Yesterday saw the release of the second round of products as part of the current Sale-A-Bration promotion (you can read all about it here) so today seems a good day to share a card that is perfect for the current challenge over at Inspire.Create where it's all about Sale-A-Bration:

There are so many lovely Sale-A-Bration items to choose from but as a chicken owner one of my personal favourites is Home To Roost:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Home To Roost - Everyone loves a chicken stamp and the 'Home To Roost' stamp set has some great sentiments and fonts and some very useful grasses too, so is definitely worth a look. He's really easy to fussy cut too.

A New Technique - My card today is inspired by one of the samples on page 11 of the Sale-A-Bration catalogue; I was intrigued to see that the chicken and background on the green card was stamped onto Wood Textures Designer Series Paper and coloured with watercolour pencils, something I'd not tried before so I thought I'd give it a go. I really like the finished effect of colour on wood texture and this is definitely something I'll try again.

Did You Know? -  Today's card is a great time to point out something else that is a feature both of the Sale-A-Bration leaflet and the Stampin' Up! seasonal and annual catalogues that you may not have noticed. Where you see a highlighted project, in addition to listing the products used to make the sample individually, there is also a bundle item code that includes everything that you can order with just one item number - handy, right? You can see it highlighted on the image below:

If you like today's card, the good news is if you buy everything in the bundle - which I also used on my card today - you'll qualify for the free Sale-A-Bration 'Home to Roost' stamp set for free - bonus!

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

One last thing: you may be wondering why the envelope featured with my card doesn't feature a chicken but a flower; I had a whole pile of projects ready for photographing and didn't realise I hadn't swapped out the envelope, but didn't realise until the time of writing - so I'm leaving this happy accident as I don't have time to retake!

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Sale-A-Bration 2019 - New Items Added!

by Joanne James15. February 2019 08:00

I know how much you've all been enjoying the benefits of the Sale-A-Bration promotion; as if it couldn't get any better I just wanted to let you know that from today there are some new items being added to the selection of products that can be earned free, both with a £45 order and a bundle that can be earned free with a purchase of £90 or more. You can click on the image below to download the flyer:

So what's new? There is the 'All Adorned' stamp set, that is designed to work particularly well with the Stamparatus:

There is a beautiful new Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, called Country Floral:

Finally, there is a bundle that can be yours free with a spend of £90 or more that includes the Painted Seasons stamp set and co-ordinating designer series paper:

The lovely team at the Stampin' Up! head office have also put together a short video that shows you the Painted Season Bundle items in more detail - you can see that by clicking on the link below:

As with the other items in the Sale-A-Bration catalogue (with the exception of the ribbon, which is sold out), these items will be available from now until the end of the Sale-A-Bration period, 31st March. You can see full details for each of the new product on the new Sale-A-Bration flyer here.

If you would like more information or to place an order, either go here to purchase from my online store (don't forget to add this month's hostess code G44UFKHH) or you can email me or telephone me if you would prefer. Back shortly with a new creative project; until then, happy shopping!

By The Bay Clean and Simple Inlaid Frame Card

by Joanne James18. January 2019 09:00

Yay - it's Friday, bring on the weekend! Today I'm sharing a card for the current challenge over at Less is More where I haven't played for a while:

I had a short window for a spot of crafting yesterday and thought I'd whip up another clean and simple card using a couple of new products that fits perfectly with their theme this week - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

By The Bay - The seagulls paddling on the shoreline that feature on today's card are reminiscent of the ones that featured in the much loved and now retired Wetlands set (anyone else remember that set?) albeit with a little more definition, and they are one of three line-drawn images that feature with three sentiments in 'By The Bay', one of the stamp sets that can be yours free with a purchase of £45 or more during Sale-A-Bration. Perfect for colouring the images are large enough to stand alone but also not so big that they take a long time to colour. I really like this set and you can be sure I will be using it more before the promotion is over.

Another Way To Frame - To frame my image, I used a new favourite of mine, the Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies, but this time to cute an aperture frame into my cardfront. I then adhered my watercoloured image behind this. I like the subtle added detail that this gives to a clean and simple card, without adding overt layers.

Ways With Watercolour - I feel like I've been watercolouring a lot on my cards lately; I don't consider myself to be by any means an expert at watercolouring, but I think that's why I'm enjoying it so much; on watercolour paper, it's easy to build up colour without needing to be too precise in terms of the overall effect. It would take ages if I was to attempt to properly draw and paint the image to achieve omething like this, so I'm grateful that stamps, ink and an aquapainter enable me to produce something this good in a fraction of the time! I used a combination of blues, greys and sandy neutrals to colour my image.

If you like today's clean and simple card, by purchasing the key items used below, you can earn the By The Bay stamp set for free - perfect for creating your own watercoloured masterpieces.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

Enjoy your day - I have a monster basket of ironing to wade through but I'm hoping if I focus I might squeeze in a little stamping time before my afternoon school run, so I'm on a mission! I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

The New Autumn-Winter Catalogue is Here and Dashing Along DSP September Hostess Promotion

by Joanne James5. September 2018 08:00

A little later than last year but this day has finally arrived! The new Autumn-Winter Seasonal Catalogue is here - you can download an electronic copy by clicking on the image below:

Physical catalogues have gone out in the post to my existing customers and anyone else who requested a copy; there will of course be a permanent link to the catalogue in the box on the right side of my blog page until 2nd January 2019 when the sales period ends. I've already shared a few sneak peeks and there is so much more to come! For today, put your feet up and browse the new catalogue in all its glory.

And there's more good news! Between now and the end of September, we have a fabulous promotion too - host a party with qualifying sales and you can earn a pack of Dashing Deer Designer Series Paper for FREE in addition to your standard Stampin' Rewards that you will receive.

The exclusive Dashing Along Designer Series Paper is a mix of old favourites and new patterns to bring you a beautiful, traditional Christmas paper. This collection of patterns has an eclectic feel and is perfect for layering, and while the newsprint design isn’t Christmas-themed, it has been selected for its versatility. As a party host you will get this set for free if your party sales reach the qualifying amount of £200. So why not gather some friends, get creative and earn rewards and a free pack of paper into the bargain! I have both daytime and evening party slots available - either call me on 07773 421446 or email me via joanne@thecraftyowl.co.uk to book yours.

Here are some great samples that show off this gorgeous paper:

Aren't they gorgeous? The papers have been paired with the new Dashing Deer bundle that can be found on page 9 of the new catalogue, so be sure to check that out too.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or queries. Don't forget to use this month's current hostess code K6VBCUXK if you are placing an order online to receive an extra thank you from me. Back soon with more creative inspiration for you. Until then, happy browsing and get writing that wish list!

Last Chance to Earn A Free Ink Pad Collection and 'Buy 3, Get 1 Free' On Designer Paper

by Joanne James31. July 2018 08:00

Good morning everyone! Just popping by today to remind you that both of this month's fabulous offers will end today (10.55pm GMT).

Firstly this month's amazing recruitment offer, the best we've had for a while:

Yes - in addition to your standard £130 of products of your choice you can receive a whole family of ink pads, absolutely FREE! You can choose from any of the collections below (please note the 2017-20 in-colour collection will only be available as a bundle as part of this promotion):

If you are a customer who has a long wish list, or are building your collection of Stampin' Up! inks, this is a great opportunity to add to your collection whilst benefiting from an overall saving of £94 (£31 free product of your choice and £63 ink pad collection) - and free shipping - along with an ongoing discount on the Stampin' Up! products that you love. Equally if you are thinking of starting your own Stampin' Up! business, this offer would enable you to get a fantastic bundle of products to get you off to a flying start. This offer has been incredibly popular, and no wonder - it really is a great deal.

There has never been a better time to join Stampin' Up!: we are at the beginning of a new quarter, so you will have a full 6 months before you need to meet your first quarterly minimum. Every sale from the time you join until the end of December counts towards it, so the sooner you join the sooner you will be earning. The run up to Christmas is a great time to build a business if you're looking to earn or boost your income doing something that you love. I am always keen to hear from people thinking about joining my team and am delighted to have welcomed new members already this month - why not give me a call to discuss what it could mean for you? Alternatively if you've made up your mind already and want to start choosing your kit, click here to complete the online form. There is also the prospect of joining my team and I for Stampin' Up!'s Onstage event in Birmingham in November, which promises to be an even more fantastic event than usual since we will be celebrating our Stampin' Up! 30th anniversary - this is a demonstrator-only event that you are not going to want to miss!

As if the recruitment offer alone wasn't enough, there is also a fabulous customer offer on during July where for every 3 packs of designer series paper you buy from the following selection, you can choose another one absolutely FREE! The papers included in the promotion are listed below:

Whilst there really is no substitute for seeing the papers up close in order to truly appreciate how beautiful they are, rather than show you a collection of stills, it's worth watching this short video from the lovely people at the Stampin' Up! home office who go through each of the papers above and show a full sheet of each pattern:

This offer is a great opportunity to stock up on some of the new papers and decide which ones you love. I have taken advantage and expanded my collection of designer paper - well, you know how much I love it!

That's all for now; I will be back tomorrow with news of an exclusive time-limited bundle that will be available during August and news of the return of Bonus Days too, so come back the to find out more! Until then, happy stampin'!

Hand Delivered Eclipse Birthday Wishes For A Discerning Teenager

by Joanne James22. May 2018 07:30

Today I'm sharing a card for the current challenge over at Just Add Ink where they are asking us to embrace the eclipse technique. I also used the sketch over at Fusion for my layout and it is perfect for the numbers and letters challenge over at Stamps Ink Paper too:

Firstly, a shout out to the lovely team over at Just Add Ink for choosing this card as the winner for challenge 407 - what an honour and I'm thrilled you liked my delicately different take on the Love What You Do stamp set. I was unable to play along with last week's colour challenge, but was keen to have another go at the eclipse technique this week with a birthday card for a discerning teenager - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

A Sneak Peak At Hand Delivered - I decided to give you a 'sneak peak' of a new stamp set today that is actually one of the exclusive hostess sets from the new Stampin' Up! annual catalogue. A fun set that has a selection of items being carried by a young lady, everything from balloons to cakes to message boards, with a variety of different skirt designs and sentiments that offer a ton of creative combinations for lots of different occasions. Best of all, it's photopolymer too, so aligning the pieces is super easy - bonus!

I think this will be one of my favourite hostess sets in the catalogue - I have so many cards in the pipeline for this one, you are definitely going to want to host a party so that you can get your hands on it too. It's worth pointing out I did make a slight modification to my stamped image on this card, in that in order to fully accommodate my numbers within the bouquet of balloons, I added a couple of extra balloons to left and right - this really wasn't tricky though, I simply masked the original image and then stamped again slightly offset on each side (the uppermost green and orange balloons on my card).

Last Chance For Large Numbers - The eclipse technique is where a word or some element of design is 'hidden' within the broader design and built up in layers so that it stands out in relief and is therefore visible as part of the overall card. I made an eclipse card previously using my Large Letters Framelits - you can see that card here - so today decided to go with the Large Numbers Framelits as I needed a card for a friend of my daughter who becomes a teenager this week. Such a milestone birthday is worthy of a number, so I decided to 'hide' mine in the collection of balloons being carried to the birthday girl, stepped up on three layers of Berry Burst cardstock.

Oh how I will miss these numbers! I can't quite believe they are retiring and they will most definitely be a 'keeper' in my collection. Incredibly, they are still available but be warned - you only have until the end of the month to add them to your crafting arsenal if you would like them; one things for sure, they are a purchase you won't regret and will get loads of use from them.

Picture Perfect Palette - I used the colours in the Picture Perfect DSP stack that featured in my vertical border as the palette for my card and simply coloured my image with my Stampin' Write Markers, adding a liberal dose of clear Wink of Stella to my balloons. Here is the colour swatch if you would like to save it for your future project inspiration:

Lastly, I finished the inside of my card with this sentiment from the Cake Soiree stamp set:

So what do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts by leaving a comment below. Also, be sure to check out the Just Add Ink designers and gallery for lots more inspiration with the eclipse technique.
