Peaceful Poppies for Color Hues TCH137

by Joanne James16. July 2026 14:00

Today is a special day! Following my recent win over at Color Hues with the Pink and Turquoise colour combo (you can see that card here if you missed it), I am Guest Designer for their new challenge starting today and there is a striking colour combo to play with:

Black and red - lots of possibilities with this combo, right? When I cleared out my craft room a few months ago I discovered a pack of Peaceful Poppies Elements collage pieces from an absolute age ago that was unopened - so today's challenge gave me an opportunity to remedy that. Take a look at what I came up with:

 Here's the low-down on today's card:

Poppies always make me think of remembrance, so they are the perfect image for a sympathy or thinking of you card. I created a frame using some Real Red cardstock and a square Stylish Shapes Die, and filled it with some heat-embossed vellum poppies that I colour red with my Stampin' Blends markers and a watercolour poppy element, then added another poppy accent to my stamped sentiment and added some black thread, sequins and an offcut of black and white paper for a little added decoration:

Some simple layering of a few well-chosen bits and pieces bring together my black and red card. Do pop by the Color Hues blog and check out what the rest of the design team have created with this colour combo; how does this colour combo inspire you?

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Your water colour poppies are lovely, especially in the style you've chosen to showcase them with the framing, the black/white strip, the black thread and the red/black embellishments. Truly a gorgeous card. Thrilled to have you as our Guest Designer for this challenge.

Oh my goodness! They were a long time ago but I still love that whole suite. I like what you've done with the black and red - a great balance of colours. The DSP adds a note of texture, as does your twine and the vellum which also helps balance things. Really cleverly done!

This is lovely, Joanne, and poppies are a great choice for that color duo.  I bought those poppy stamps and papers but I have no memory at all of the Elements that you used.  I also really like how the sequins are a bit stealthy on the black cardstock but they still add some fun shine to your card.

Poppies are perfect for these colors, Joanne and these are such pretty poppies!  I love the drama of the black background with the strip of plaid to break it up and the texture of the twine and sequins!  Thanks so much for joining our team to inspire players with this challenge!

Joanne, the layers of poppies are just lovely.  The square in the red panel almost creates a look of a Polaroid picture of the flowers.  Great layout and I love the bit of texture with the black thread and sequins. It's so wonderful having you as guest designer for this challenge!
