It's Thursday and time for a new challenge over at TicTacToe! It's the turn of Team X to host this week and the lovely LeAnne is our featured designer this week. This is the fun board that we are playing along with: 

I went down the last column with leaves, green and diecut for my card today with another card using those lovely Forever Greenery papers - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Forever Greenery -  Today's card just like this one that I shared earlier this week features lots of elements from the Forever Greenery Suite. The Forever Greenery paper was once again the starting point for today's card. These papers have some beautiful patterns featuring lush greenery and today I chose a subtle background design combined with a busy foliage-filled designs, and layered them and used them as the inspiration for my foliage sprig. 

Forever Fern - I stamped similar pieces of leaf foliage from the Forever Fern stamp set in the same colours as those that feature on the papers and diecut it with the corresponding Forever Flourishing Dies. The detail on these stamps really is amazing - they are another of the Distinktive range that appear almost 3-dimensional when stamped. So pretty! 

Touches of Gold - I used some gold foil for a border and tiny foliage pieces, along with gold twine to embellish my card but the star of the show is the gold hoop embellishment that frames my sentiment - such a wow in real life:

I have really enjoyed working with this set this week and am so glad that it is carrying over to the new annual catalogue, even though the papers and gold elements in the suite aren't; it will give me lots more opportunity to play for sure.

It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge over at CAS Colours & Sketches. Can you believe it was exactly one year ago today that the UK went into lockdown; my how times have changed in the last year - thank heavens for crafting! This week's challenge is a sketch challenge and YoonYoung has asked that we create something with three vertical elements and a central sentiment as our focal point:

Feel free to flip or rotate the sketch when making your card. For my card today I decided to use a floral border die in shades of purple for my vertical elements - here's my card:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Ornate Borders - Whilst designed for use along the edge of a card as the name suggests, I thought that the simplest of the floral borders would also work when layered into my design to create the three vertical lines of interest in the sketch. I measure them carefully so that they were placed an equal distance apart; I like the way that the flowers show through the colour beneath to add further interest to each diecut. 

Shades of Purple - Purples are a favourite of mine and were perfect for today's card, where I decided I needed three complimentary shades of one colour, to maintain something of a CAS feel; I used the soon-to-be retiring Purple Posy, Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape. I am also playing along with a new-to-me challenge, The Flower Challenge, introduced to me by my blogging friend, the lovely Michele Ferguson of I Card Everyone who has just joined their team of designers, where they are looking for flowers in shades of purple too. Mine are diecut as opposed to stamped (I think that's still allowed!) and if you are a purple-lover too, you should check out their gallery - there are some fabulous purple stamped creations to peruse!

Inside Detail - I chose a super simple 'thanks' from the co-ordinating 'Ornate Thanks' stamp set in a stitched oval for the front of my card, in an effort to increase my proportion of 'white space' and maintain a clean and simple feel, and finished it on the inside of my card, adding a flower made up from the pieces leftover from the diecuts on the front:

As promised, I had a little extra crafty time at the weekend so I have another card to share today, this time using the current Fab Friday sketch and this week's colour palette over at The Color Throwdown:

As I was pondering two shades of green with gold and white, I was drawn to a suite from the annual catalogue that I've had for some time but barely used - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Forever Greenery - Today's card features lots of elements from the Forever Greenery Suite. The Forever Greenery paper was the starting point for today's card. These papers have some beautiful patterns featuring lush greenery and I chose one of the simpler designs, a washed Just Jade paper with a single repeating Soft Sea Foam leaf stem. 

Forever Fern - I stamped a similar piece of leaf foliage from the Forever Fern stamp set in Just Jade onto Soft Sea Foam cardstock and diecut it with the corresponding Forever Flourishing Dies. The detail on these stamps is amazing - they are another of the Distinktive range that appear almost 3-dimensional when stamped. So pretty! 

Forever Gold - I paired my stamped stem with a couple of decorative stems from the Forever Gold laser-cut paper that is also part of the suite. I used one outline and one solid leaf stem for contrast. Along with a sprinkling of gilded gems, I think they really lift the detail in this corner of the card:

A simple 'hello' sentiment and a piece of Just Jade ribbon finish my card. I love greens and must confess that having made this card I wondered to myself why I hadn't used it more. Not that you need to restrict yourself to greens with this set; my dear friend Jan Clothier in New Zealand has made many a fabulous card with the Forever Fern stamp set and many of them in colours other than green; you can check out her Thinking Stamping blog here if you'd like to see some of her Forever Fern creations. That said, I hope you've enjoyed my greens today, as I've another card featuring this suite to share with you later this week!

I've had a busy start to my week, with a run and a class featuring the beautiful 'Friends are like Seashells' bundle. Today I have a couple of blog posts, the first one using the sketch over at Hand Stamped Sentiments:

Such a great sketch! I decided to switch out the square for a circle to soften the edges and feature some yummy-looking strawberries and the Sweet Strawberry bundle - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I cut up some of my Sale-A-Bration Berry Delightful DSP for my focal cluster of strawberries and blossoms, punching out the shapes with my Strawberry Builder Punch - I just love the easy watercoloured look of these papers, and added some tone-on-tone stamping of additional blossom and leaves from the Sweet Strawberry stamp set in Granny Apple Green onto my Soft Sea Foam base and blended in some extra Soft Sea Foam ink with my blending brush, before running through my Subtle Embossing Folder for some added light texture. I embossed my sentiment in white onto a contrasting Real Red banner, adding some twine and pearls to finish.

I decided to open an as-yet unused stamp set for a fun clean and simple card - take a look:

I thought this sweet dachshund would make the perfect focal point for my card today! I gave him a plaid coat using some retired Plaid Tidings DSP left over from last season and did some selective masking so that he could carry a resin-heart embellished note, having coloured my heart a peach colour using my Calypso Coral Blends:

Both my choice of canine and sentiment were chosen with the current challenge over at CASology, where the codeword is  'long' - a sausage dog and a 'miss you' sentiment seemed the perfect fit! I also used the Color Dare TicTacToe Challenge colours in the first column (peach, peacock, cinnamon). I added a little extra detail to the inside of my card too:

I have made a stack of these cards and decided to pop them in the post this week to friends that I haven't had the opportunity to catch up with for some time. Here's hoping they brighten someone's day!

A quick post from me this evening with a card inspired by the following challenges:

I don't often use diagonals, but funnily enough had designed a rectangular card using a layout similar to Jen's Freshly Made Sketches design for this month's class featuring the Friends Are Like Seashells bundle (I can't share that one yet as I don't want to spoil the surprise for the ladies attending Monday's class!) so decided to change it up and make an altered square version along with blue, patterned paper and square card from the Festive Friday inspo list to create another card using the Sand and Sea Suite - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I used some sand and sea-inspired DSP for my background triangles, cutting the blue sea piece freehand along the line of the waves for a more natural effect, placing my sentiment in a stitched square in the centre and embellishing it with a selection of shells, seaweed, pearls and split braided linen trim. I used some of the pearlescent paper for my large, embossed shell - isn't it so pretty?

I just love the sentiments in this set too; this is how I finished the inside of my card:

Today has not quite gone according to plan so I'm a little late sharing my design team card for our new challenge over at As you See It - and it's my choice of theme this week too! For our new challenge we have a seasonal theme challenge:

Easter! Whether you are looking forward to potentially gathering face-to-face with friends or your congregation for the first time in a while, or simply enjoying hot cross buns and the prospect of a chocolate egg or two, Easter is I am going for a less traditional take on Easter today and instead, somewhat inspired by the chocolate bunny in our challenge photo, I'm going with a cute spring lamb to decorate my Easter card today - take a look:

 Here's the low-down on today's card:

My little lamb decorated with flowers is from the new 'Springtime Joy' stamp set, a set full of cute animals along with some lovely sentiments. I actually coloured two and made a couple of cards, paired with some retired All Ablooms designer paper that is covered in spring flowers (these papers feature the retired in-colours Strawberry Slush and Pistachio Pudding - remember those?) that I thought would work perfectly with my sweet lambkins. Here's the second one, using a different paper from the same pack:

I added some extra DSP to my envelope flap and a liner too (great ways to dress up your card further and use up paper if you have lots of it going spare!) From the outside, my card could potentially be for any occasion - I added my favourite sentiment from the stamp set to the inside of my card:

Because Easter is the perfect reminder of new beginnings, I think.

We have a farm near where we live and as it's currently lambing season, Rebecca takes any and every opportunity to head over on foot or bicycle so that she can visit the newborn lambs in the field or take a peek into the lambing shed. It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge over at CAS Colours & Sketches. YoonYoung is hosting this month and today we have a colour challenge: 

For my card today I decided to go with some triple-step stamping and a sunny yellow rose for a cheery Easter card - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

To A Wild Rose - I'm not sure I've used this set on my blog before, but the 'To A Wild Rose' stamp set has some wonderful blousy blooms, that have great dimension just by layering colour - perfect for clean and simple cards. I used each of the challenge colours to create my layers, stamping off the third layer of both the leaves and the petals in order to get the depth of colour with only 3 inks.  

Bricks and Mortar - Over at Just Us Girls this week Bobby has asked us to embrace the trend of embossing folders. I decided to use a So Saffron card base so that I could use a white circle embossed with the Bricks and Mortar embossing folder to highlight my yellow rose. I'm sure there will be some wonderful and creative uses of embossing over in the JUGs gallery, but in an effort to keep things clean and simple I used a simple punched circle of texture on my card:

 Sometimes less is more I think!

Blessed Easter Wishes - I love the font of the large 'Blessed' stamp in the 'To A Wild Rose' stamp set, which works beautifully with the other friendship-themed sentiments included. I used a little creative licence and heat-embossed it in gold before I paired it with some other stamps from the super-versatile 'A Wish For Everything' stamp set to create my Easter greeting, which you can see in more detail below:

Do you ever combine stamp sets in this way? I love that with lots to choose from, the possibilities are endless! I also added a trio of sparkly enamel dots - I just couldn't help myself!

Happy Monday everyone - another Monday, another week! This week includes St Patrick's Day, so there are naturally lots of challenges that feature either the colour green, the theme of luck, shamrocks and generally all things Irish around at the moment! So today I'm sharing a card inspired by a few of them:

I was inspired by the sketch and photo over at Inspired By this week, and the lovely ladies over at Just Add Ink are asked us to create with shades of green. At The Card Concept the theme is the 'Luck of the Irish'. Whilst I don't know anyone who celebrates St Patrick's Day card and would appreciate a card, it's always a good opportunity to create a good luck card or something in green - such a soothing colour. I decided to make a clean and simple card that has a play on the word 'luck' that is perfect to send to a friend - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Shades of Green - I masked off my Basic White cardstock panel and used my chosen shades of green - Soft Sea Foam, Granny Apple Green, Call Me Clover and Shaded Spruce - with my blending brushes to create a trio of columns of blended ombre greens, deepening in colour towards my sentiment and lucky clover/shamrock at the base. There is something so calming about shades of green used in such a simple way I think - don't you agree? 

Heartfelt Wishes - The sentiment I used on my card today comes from the 'Heartfelt' stamp set and is the perfect play on the word 'luck' to show appreciation for someone's friendship and seemed to fit the theme perfectly, with a card that I could actually send to someone! 

Pierced Blooms Lucky Clover - I created my shamrock or lucky four-leaf clover from a five-petal floral die from the Pierced Blooms Dies. I simply snipped away part of one of the petals to leave me with 4 leaves and a stem:

I finished my clover with a gold faceted gem to add an extra detail to my focal embellishment (from my collection rather than the pot at the end of the rainbow I hasten to add!)

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's my turn to host this week and I have a colour challenge for you to work with:

Today is Mothering Sunday or Mother's Day here in the UK and I chose my colour palette this week based on the products I wanted to use on the card that I was going to make for my Mum to celebrate this special day, specifically the Hydrangea Hill Mercury Glass Acetate which I was keen to incorporate into my card. I've lots of photos for you today and two versions of my card too, so get ready! Here's the first and original version of my card:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Hydrangea Hill - My Mum is not particularly precious when it comes to flowers or gifts on Mother's Day, but she does appreciate a special card, so her card was the perfect opportunity to showcase the Hydrangea Hill Mercury Glass Acetate in Highland Heather, alongside other elements of the Hydrangea Hill Suite. I love the idea of these coloured foil acetates, but often find them trickier to use in practice. I think they make great frames or backgrounds though, so that's where I started with today's card. Measuring 21cm x 14.9cm (a sheet of folded A4) my card is larger than usual. I created an open window for my stamped sentiment (more on that below) and layered my frame with a scallop-edged border and a beautiful diecut hydrangea. Whilst the card above is my original card, and could actually be used for a special birthday too, I knew my Mum would want to see the words 'Happy Mother's Day' front and centre on her version - ever happy to oblige, I added an additional diecut sentiment in Highland Heather using the Word Wishes Dies to the front of my card:

Layers, Layers - Despite its rather simple appearance, there are lots of layers to my card: the mercury glass acetate and framed sentiment window, along with the layered diecut elements to my flower, cut with the Hydrangea Dies. I also added a twine bow and tag to my floral stem using other elements in the set:

How beautiful is that hydrangea die? I cut it out of Balmy Blue and sponged the edges in the same colour to add depth, then lifted the petal elements and carefully sponged the tips of the petals with Highland Heather to create that two-tone look so often seen with this type of bloom. The suite has some beautiful coordinating pastel pearls, but they were too large for me to decorate the centre of my flowers. Instead, I used my dark Highland Heather Blends marker and coloured some small basic pearl jewels that were just the right size - aren't they so pretty?

All About The Paper - I couldn't pass up the opportunity to use some of the beautiful Hydrangea Hill papers on my card today. The outside of my card only features the colours of my chosen palette, with a little of the Balmy Blue DSP visible through the window aperture, but the inside of my card also includes a little pink and some Gorgeous Grape on that hydrangea border paper; this paper is so perfect for additional hidden detail on the inside of the card, including my stamped message:

I also made a custom envelope from a whole sheet of 12" x 12" DSP, featuring the hydrangea flower heads and with a Highland Heather striped border on the flap:

This paper is simply too good not to use! I added a simple stitched scalloped rectangle to the front of the envelope to address it:

My card is going in the mail, so I packed it in a plain white envelope for mailing; I know my Mum will appreciate the extra pretty detail when she opens it though, so the double envelope is so worth it! I haven't seen my Mum in person for 15 months, due to ongoing restrictions in lockdowns and travel between Wales and England, however with the increasing rate of vaccination here in the UK, we shouldn't have too much longer to wait until we can all meet in safety once more.
