Birthday Textured Florals For PP661

by Joanne James8. October 2023 08:00

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous LeAnne to host this week and she has a colour challenge for us to work with:

These colours immediately made me think 'Halloween', but I really didn't want to make a Halloween card - so I challenged myself to make something floral! I'm using this week's Global Design Project #GDP414 sketch for my layout and this is also my entry for this month's Flower Challenge of 'anything goes' - and since they are celebrating their 7th birthday, I went with a birthday theme too. This is what I came up with:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I decided to use the Textured Floral bundle on my card. I stamped a selection of blooms in Highland Heather and Pumpkin Pie, stamping off the larger flowers once, and leaves in Old Olive, diecut them and used them to frame my aperture that I'd cut out using the largest circle in my Stylish Shapes Dies. I added a piece of black and white Zoo Crew designer paper inside my aperture, along with some additional black diecut foliage, a heat-embossed black and white sentiment and a large black and white gingham bow to finish:

I think the black and white elements balance the colours and whilst adding a touch of drama make my card look less Halloween-y. What do you think? Do leave me a comment below - I'd love to hear your thoughts.

A Zoo Crew Reindeer For A Clean And Simple Christmas Card

by Joanne James4. August 2023 09:00

This is my second post of the day as today I'm guesting over at CAS on Friday further to my recent win (here's the link to my winning card if you missed it!) The theme of the new challenge is 'Holiday'. I initially thought about sunny beaches and the sea, but then realised that whilst us Brits tend to use the word 'holiday' as an alternative to 'vacation', in other countries, particularly the USA, the word 'holiday' is often used in connection with the festive season so yes, you've guessed it - I have another Christmas card for you! Take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Do you recognise this ballet dancing reindeer? She is actually one of the characters on the Zoo Crew designer paper! I've shared cards made with other animals fussy cut from this paper before; I just added a hint of colour to her antlers and a pop of festive red and a sparkly rhinestones to the flower on her skirt, added a couple of pieces of retired festive paper from my scrap box behind and finished with a stamped Christmas sentiment from the current 'Ringed With Nature' stamp set:

And that's all there is to it! There are a few sets in the annual catalogue that are Christmas-themed or are not designed as such but can be used to make cards for the holiday season. So if you want to get started early on your Christmas crafting, go ahead and take a look. You could also treat yourself to a Christmas card kit as they are discounted with up to 30% this month or even sign up to be a Stampin' Up! demonstrator - you would then benefit from the perk of being able to order items from the mini catalogue right away, a whole month ahead of customers - yay!

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

Be sure to check out the projects made by the CAS On Friday designers - I know they will have some fabulous inspiration to share.

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Hey There Zoo Crew Clean and Simple PP649

by Joanne James16. July 2023 08:00

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous Anne Marie to host this week and she has a fun clean and simple challenge for us to work with:

I used the sketch over at Try Stamping on Tuesday and also played along with their optional twist of camping/campfire and got fussy cutting with my paper snips and some Zoo Crew Designer Series Paper to come up with today's fun clean and simple notecard - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Today's card is all about the designer paper! I had lots of images fussy cut from the Zoo Crew designer paper so I chose this one of the lion, added some additional colour to him with my Stampin' Blends markers and adhered him and some trees that I also fussy cut from the paper to a stitched oval, to which I'd added some Starry Sky and Parakeet Party inks with some blending brushes to ground my campfire scene (I also added a flick of clear Wink of Stella to give my sky a starry night feel, although it is difficult to see this on the photo). I anchored my oval with a trio of strips featuring some of the black and white patterns from the Zoo Crew papers and stamped a vertical sentiment from the 'charming Sentiments' stamp set:

Whilst you might be forgiven at first glance for thinking I missed the point of Anne Marie's challenge this week, you will see my lion is busy roasting his pink marshmallows over his open campfire. yum - s'mores, anyone?! Fussy cutting the individual images is such a fun way to use designer paper! A little goes a long way and this kind of minimalist layout is perfect for clean and simple cards. I'm also linking today's card up over at CAS on Friday where designer paper is the theme of their current challenge too.

Zoo Crew Ballet Dancing Hippo Birthday Card PP646

by Joanne James25. June 2023 08:00

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous Claire to host this week and she has my favourite, a sketch challenge for us to work with:

I decided to share another of the fun animals from the Zoo Crew designer paper on my card this week; this time it's the turn of the ballet-dancing hippo for a sweet birthday card for a little girl - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I used a base layered with some retired Country Floral Lane designer paper which picked up on the Petal Pink of the hippo's tutu, then inspired by the challenge over at SUO Challenges I decided I would delve into my ribbon stash and use the verticals for a double trim of beautiful Pool Party satin ribbon (the one I've used is retired but I've linked to a current equivalent below) and tied with a statement bow. I coloured my hippo with Smoky Slate Stampin' Blends then fussy cut her and added her to my card:

A diecut sentiment from the 'Charming Sentiments' stamp set completes my card. I just love this Zoo Crew paper for fussy cutting - you can create so many different cards with the characters featured.

Life Is Sweet If You Are A Roller Skating Emu

by Joanne James21. June 2023 09:20

Today I'm sharing a card that was inspired by a new-to-me word that Time Out Challenges introduced me to:

I used the layout from Sketch Saturday to make my card that totally sums up the meaning of the word 'sportive' to me - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

What could be more playful and lighthearted than a roller skating emu, I wonder?! Whilst I'm not sure roller skating is considered a 'sport', it's certainly fun. I fussy cut my emu from the Zoo Crew designer paper and paired him with some Lemon Lolly stripes and an oversize sentiment from the 'Sweetest Cherries' stamp set:

A stitched frame and trio of Lemon Lolly solid gems complete today's card. This card makes me smile! I might even send it to one of my oldest friends, who one summer spent our entire summer vacation trying to teach me to roller skate. She was so good at it and even after 6 weeks of what felt like daily practice, I still had all the hallmarks of Bambi on wheels, but we had so much fun in the process it didn't matter. Happy childhood memories!

Remember - today is free shipping day! If you are looking for something to pop in your shopping basket, I would highly recommend a pack or two of the Bright & Beautiful designer series paper - it's so versatile and I've used lots of mine already!

Enjoy your day; I am out and about as both James Juniors have exams today. I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Simple Stamping And A Zoo Crew Knitting Llama CCS 513

by Joanne James6. June 2023 13:00

It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge over at CAS Colours & Sketches. Shannon is hosting this month and our first challenge is a colour challenge:

For my card today I went super clean and simple with a fun card perfect for a crafty friend - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I decided to indulge in a spot of fussy cutting of my Zoo Crew designer paper and trim out one of the knitting llamas! The Zoo Crew paper is choc-full of animals doing all kinds of fun things - and what could be more comical than a knitting llama, right?! Some of the images are black and white, some partially coloured, and some completely coloured and ready to use. The chair and wool that the llama is knitting with were already coloured, so I just used my Blends to add in a little more light Old Olive to the wool, some Petal Pink to the ears and a little dark Smoky Slate to the skin and outline of my llama:

I added a sentiment from the 'Crafting With You' stamp set which seemed to fit the image perfectly. This is a great #simplestamping card - just stamps, ink and paper and a little designer paper. The Zoo Crew paper is another of those that are available at 15% discount in this month's designer series paper sale. If you fussy cut the images (you can also diecut many of them with the Zany Zoo co-ordinating dies too, but these are by no means essential - they are easy to cut out with scissors) you will be able to make an absolute ton of simple cards. They can be paired with whatever sentiments you have to hand - now is the time to stock up for sure! Links to the online store below - or contact me if you would like to participate in my current discounted paper share.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

As a reminder, for our colour challenges, you must use all of the stated challenge colours. You may also use neutral colours; however, the challenge colours should be the most noticeable ones featured on your card. We use Stampin' Up! colour names for reference, but you are welcome to use any other companies' products as long as you match the challenge colours as closely as possible. For this challenge, the colours include two of those that were retired in the recent current refresh, so feel free to substitute with Petal Pink and Old Olive as the nearest current alternatives, as I've done.

For the second day running, it is decidedly cooler than the weather forecast and looking rather overcast. No matter - I am still wearing a summer dress and willing the sun to come out, although at this rate I may have to add socks and a cardigan later!! Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!
