Labels Aglow Clean and Simple Notecard

by Joanne James4. November 2023 19:00

Yay - it's the weekend! Today I'm sharing a clean and simple notecard that was inspired by a few challenges that came together in an interesting way:

The colour scheme at AAA Cards caught my eye and the circular balloon image got me thinking of the SUO Challenges theme of circles and I decided to combine the two. The sketch layout over at Just Add Ink gave me the perfect layout to execute my idea (and is considerably less involved than my winning card last week - thank you ladies for the pick!) - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I wanted a design that exclusively featured circles and I decided to use the Labels Aglow Dies which are all based around tiny diecut circles. I diecut the large round pattern comprising lots of tiny circles twice from thick white cardstock and before I glued them down, I embossed an imprint of the die onto the card base and used my Stampin' Blends in the AAA Cards challenge colours to randomly colour the dots, similar to the inspiration photo. You can see the detail more closely on the photo below:

I finished with a simple sentiment from the 'Ringed With Nature' stamp set which I heat-embossed in white onto a Night of Navy label cut with another of the dies in the set for an extra pop of colour. The Labels Aglow Dies carried over into the annual catalogue from the seasonal catalogue this time last year and are often used for Christmas-themed and seasonal cards, especially as it was bundled with the co-ordinating 'Brightest Glow' stamp set so this is a great way to show how they can be used effectively for a non-festive card too. This is a simple notecard that is great to have on standby for those times when you need to pop a quick note in with something and would work in any colour too.

Enjoy your day; following a dry evening and a fantastic fireworks display yesterday evening, I've spent my afternoon sheltering at the side of a wet and windy hockey pitch today - winter has definitely arrived! I'll be back tomorrow with my card for our new challenge over at The Paper Players. Until then, happy stampin'!

A Zoo Crew Reindeer For A Clean And Simple Christmas Card

by Joanne James4. August 2023 09:00

This is my second post of the day as today I'm guesting over at CAS on Friday further to my recent win (here's the link to my winning card if you missed it!) The theme of the new challenge is 'Holiday'. I initially thought about sunny beaches and the sea, but then realised that whilst us Brits tend to use the word 'holiday' as an alternative to 'vacation', in other countries, particularly the USA, the word 'holiday' is often used in connection with the festive season so yes, you've guessed it - I have another Christmas card for you! Take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Do you recognise this ballet dancing reindeer? She is actually one of the characters on the Zoo Crew designer paper! I've shared cards made with other animals fussy cut from this paper before; I just added a hint of colour to her antlers and a pop of festive red and a sparkly rhinestones to the flower on her skirt, added a couple of pieces of retired festive paper from my scrap box behind and finished with a stamped Christmas sentiment from the current 'Ringed With Nature' stamp set:

And that's all there is to it! There are a few sets in the annual catalogue that are Christmas-themed or are not designed as such but can be used to make cards for the holiday season. So if you want to get started early on your Christmas crafting, go ahead and take a look. You could also treat yourself to a Christmas card kit as they are discounted with up to 30% this month or even sign up to be a Stampin' Up! demonstrator - you would then benefit from the perk of being able to order items from the mini catalogue right away, a whole month ahead of customers - yay!

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Ringed With Nature New Home Card

by Joanne James10. May 2023 17:00

Today I'm sharing a card for the current CAS on Friday Challenge with the theme of 'New Home' that was inspired by the photo over at Inspired By that you can see below:

I was delighted that this card was chosen as the winner of the last Inspired By challenge and I just had to play along again this week. Aren't those stacking elephants cute?! Now you might be thinking how did the photo inspire today's card to welcome someone to their new home - with not an elephant in sight! Well take a look at my card and I'll explain all - here it is:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Ringed With Nature - The sweet little house from the 'Ringed With Nature' stamp set is perfect for a new home card, so I knew I wanted to make this my focal point. The neutral colours of the Inspired By photo were perfectly suited to my house and I liked the idea of blocks of colour. Whilst my blocks of colour are represented by the individual elements of my design - Very Vanilla card base, Basic Grey roof, Crumb Cake walls and Petal Pink heart - rather than elephants, the inspiration is there. In addition to a scored frame, I diecut my heart before adding to my house using one of the Give It A Whirl Dies for a little extra detail:

Sweet Songbirds and Home Life - Both of the sentiments on my set come from other sets, as there isn't one in 'Ringed With Nature' that's suitable. My tiny 'Welcome' is from 'Sweet Songbirds' and the greeting on the inside is from a long-retired set called Home Life (with the stamped heart from Ringed With Nature):

Songbirds Of A Different Kind - I have been having a conversation with one of my Paper Player teamies, the lovely LeAnne, this week about feathered friends of a different kind. LeAnne has many beautiful birds visit her garden feeders all year round (check out her blog here if you're interested - I've linked to Sunday's Paper Players post as it has some fab bird photos!) and I was sharing with her the latest developments on the blue tit family that hatched in one of my birdboxes last week. For any of my international readers who would like to know more about this very British bird, you can read about them here. I have two blue tit boxes on the side of my house that are fitted with cameras, so I am able to see everything that is going on inside them without disturbing the occupants. The current nest was home to 10 birds, although I am currently only counting 8 chicks (it's not unusual to lose one or two within the first few days, as the strongest babies win the battle for food). It's now a week since the eggs hatched and whilst the chicks are still tiny and quite ugly, their wings are starting to develop today and they are growing fast. As a treat for LeAnne, I thought I would upload a couple of short video clips of the activity today; in the clips below you can see both the male and female flying back and fore (the entry to the bird house is at the bottom of the screen), feeding and sitting on the nest. The second, shorter clip shows more of the colouring on the adult bird. Please bear in mind I recorded this video of the tv on my phone, so it's basic at best - the nest is right at the very back of the nesting box, so the video camera does lose a little of the detail at the top of the screen. That said - enjoy!

Enjoy your day; mine has felt a little short as my afternoon school run was brought forward, on account of the youngest of the James Juniors having had two exams today and as such finishing earlier. We are officially one subject down - just 9 more to go!! I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Ringed With Nature Thinking of You Get Well Soon Card

by Joanne James22. October 2022 10:48

Today I'm sharing the card that pairs with the one I shared earlier in the week using the Ringed With Nature bundle; this uses the same colours, but a different layout - I used the Try Stamping on Tuesday sketch as my starting point (mirrored to work with my embossing folder):

I used the Tree Rings Embossing Folder to emboss the whole of the cardfront, then layered an extra two for the detail, focusing on the dies in the set - take a look:

 Here's the low-down on today's card:

I used acorns tied with linen thread, along with some leaves and berries accented with in-colour matt dots for my top circle, followed by a trio of mushrooms for the second circle:

I carried the toadstool design over to the envelope and the inside of my card, which I completed with a 'get well soon' message. This card is already in the post to a dear friend of mine who is definitely in need of a pick-me-up this week, following an unexpected emergency surgery whilst already recuperating from an unrelated procedure. I hope she likes it!

Here's a photo of both of my Ringed With Nature cards together - I think they make a great pair. Which do you prefer? The one that focuses on the stamped images or the dies?

Do leave me a comment below - I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Enjoy your day; we had early hockey today with both James Juniors playing at the same time - a rare thing! It did mean I managed to squeeze in an extra post; the rest of my day will be spent getting the oldest ready for a school trip to San Francisco tomorrow and an early night in readiness for the super-early Sunday alarm - well, we can't have everything, can we?! and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Ringed With Nature Love and Warmth Christmas Card TTT 184

by Joanne James20. October 2022 16:00

It's Thursday and time for a new challenge over at TicTacToe! It's the turn of Team X to host this week and I am the featured designer. This is the fun board that we are playing along with:

May be an image of 1 person, child, dog and text that says "#131 Sweet Sorbet COLOUR ----- RI CHALLENGES Cherry Cobbler Crumb Cake Early Espresso sandra"

Apologies for the lateness of today's post - life sometimes gets in the way! I used the Atlantic Hearts sketch for my layout and the colours over at Colour Inkspiration and went down the first column of the board with foliage, acorn/berries and trees/wood - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I used the Ringed with Nature stamp set and co-ordinating Tree Rings Hybrid Embossing Folder to stamp some leaves, florals and berries onto my vanilla layer (having stamped-off first), along with some splatters, then added a diecut tree ring, layered with diecut and stamped elements that I fussy cut, a linen twine bow and a Textural Elements wooden berry sprig, to which I added a trio of (retired) Cherry Cobbler enamel dots. I stamped and fussy cut my sentiment and added that alongside:

This is one of those cards that just evolved into the finished product as I added and removed bits and pieces until I was happy with it. I love the texture of the diecut elements and by sponging them with additional colour it really adds depth. In fact, I liked the colours so much I made a second card - I'll share that with you on Saturday!

A tictactoe board offers so many creative possibilities - how does this week's board inspire you? Why not have a go? We would love to see you in the gallery and who knows - you might be selected for Designer's Choice and be eligible to be a guest designer on a future challenge.

Enjoy your evening; I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!
