Sunshine And Rainbows With Just My Type PP684

by Joanne James7. April 2024 08:00

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous Anne Marie to host this week and she has a fun theme challenge for us to work with:

Sunshine and rainbows! You can take your inspiration from anything relating to sunshine, rain and rainbows with some great inspiration on our badge this week. I decided to take Anne Marie's theme quite literally and built my card around a sentiment from the 'Just My Type' stamp set that includes both elements - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Saying Goodbye - It's that time of year when we are getting ready to say goodbye to lots of products in both the mini and annual catalogues and today's card is a celebration of some of my favourites: the 'Just My Type' stamp set that my sentiment hails from, the 'Rays of Light' background stamp that I used to create my sunshine shining through the clouds, the Basic Borders Dies that I used for my cloud cutaway, the Lighter Than Air rainbow-striped paper and the iridescent gems are all leaving us at the end of the month. Many of these will be available at a substantial discount from 9th April onwards and all will be available only whilst stocks last - so be sure to place your order in a timely manner if you don't want to miss out!

Lighter Than Air Rainbow Stripes - Instead of stamping a rainbow alongside my rays of sunshine, I decided to use a sheet of rainbow-striped pastel designer series paper from the Lighter Than Air pack. I made my stamped layer slightly smaller than my card base to give a rainbow border then used one of my Basic Borders Dies to create the cloud-shaped cut-away, revealing the detail of the paper in all of its striped glory. Since the team over at Time Out are asking us to feature stripes for their current challenge, I'm linking my card there too.

Borders and Clouds - Having used my cloud-shaped Basics Borders Die to create the corner cutaway to reveal more of my rainbow stripes, I decided that I wanted to put my sentiment into a cloud too. Since I didn't have a die large enough, I used my border die to create my own custom cloud:

A triple coloured twine bow and a sprinkling of iridescent gems complete today's card.

Just My Type Key To My Heart Valentine Card

by Joanne James14. February 2024 21:00

Happy Valentine's lovely readers! It seems only right that I should share a Valentine's card today; actually I made this card to send to the DH to celebrate our wedding anniversary, which is next week, but it would work for either. I made my card with a couple of challenges in mind:

Inkspirational have a word prompt of 'heart' and the theme over at Inspire.Create is 'All About Love'. I went for a relatively clean and simple card with lots of fun details that focuses on the sentiment - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

The sentiment comes from the 'Just My Type' stamp set and I found a tiny vintage key trinket in my embellishment stash that I thought paired with it perfectly. A Bee Builder Punch heart and a selection of designer paper snippets, diecuts and gems complete my card:

Pretty yet not overly feminine - I really like the finished result and hope that the Hubby will too.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

I have enjoyed a pleasant Valentine's dinner with the youngest of the James Juniors, catching up on the events of the day, the highlight of which was a hockey 2nd XI win, which is always worth celebrating! I'll be back on Friday with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Hi With Just My Type and Sunshine and Rainbows FF0147

by Joanne James10. November 2023 09:00

Today I have my card for the new challenge over at Festive Friday Card Making and Paper Crafting Challenge

The challenge that we are celebrating this week is 'World Hello Day' which is on November 21st. Remember the fun thing is that at Festive Friday you do not need to actually celebrate the occasion; your goal is to simply use three or more items from the inspiration list on your project. This week I used bright colours, patterned paper, envelope and hello/hi sentiment along with the layout over at Sketch Saturday and this is what I came up with:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Believe it or not I actually started out making this card with the little 'hi' sentiment from the 'Just My Type' stamp set. I decided since it was so tiny, it would either need a very clean and simple layout or a bold and colourful background - as you can see, I went for the latter! I used some retired 'Sunshine and Rainbows' paper in panels for my background, then picked out the colours and images to create a little embellished focal point around my sentiment using other stamps in the set and a few additional diecut pieces from the Give It A Whirl Dies:

Cute, right?! Just the kind of note to brighten someone's day - although they might need sunglasses when they take it out of the envelope, with not a drop of black and white in sight!

Hello with Just My Type for FF0143

by Joanne James15. September 2023 09:00

Today I have my card for the new challenge over at Festive Friday Card Making and Paper Crafting Challenge

The challenge that we are celebrating this week is 'World Card Making Day' which is on 7 October. Remember the fun thing is that at Festive Friday you do not need to actually celebrate the occasion; your goal is to simply use three or more items from the inspiration list on your project. This week I used bright colours, sequins and layers and this is what I came up with:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

World Card Making Day - This week's challenge celebrates World Card Making Day. This day is celebrated on the first Saturday in October each year, which this year falls on 7th October. As a crafter and committed card maker, this is definitely a day to celebrate! I always try to make sure I do some crafting for fun on that day but if you would like something more organised, you can join with me and the team at Stampin' Up! who are hosting a free event for this day:

This is a virtual event that will run from 1-4pm UK time and during this time we will be using a trio of different supplies to make three different cards. You can download the supplies list here and you've plenty of time to order anything you need in advance of the session (you can of course substitute other supplies if you don't have those detailed to hand). There is also a handy measurements guide for you to use in preparation and to refer to during the session. The session is FREE to attend; you can register here ahead of time, but if you haven't registered and happen to be free simply come along! I hope to see you there!

Just My Type - My card to celebrate this day is a simple 'hello' card featuring the 'Just My Type' stamp set and the Delightfully Eclectic designer series paper. The flowers in the paper co-ordinate beautifully with those in the stamp set that I featured behind my typewriter. I picked out the colours in the paper for my 'hello' sentiment and added a few hearts and sequins and a fold of ribbon to complete my card. I stamped the typewriter in Night of Navy onto Fresh Freesia cardstock for a different look - what do you think?

I really like this card - the pops of colour against the darker blues make me happy :-)

Rays of Summer Sunshine For AYSI 304

by Joanne James28. July 2023 12:00

Today I'm sharing my design team card for our new challenge over at As you See It where it's time for a seasonal 'fill in the blank' challenge chosen by the lovely Jane:

There's so much to love about summer: vacations, an abundance of home grown vegetables, trips to the beach, longer days ... but for me the best thing of all about summer is an abundance of sunshine! I don't need the heat but I definitely welcome the brightness that the extra sunshine brings; it lifts my mood and I am so much more productive too. So my clean and simple card today focuses on sunshine and I decided to CASE the designer, Susan Wong, over at Global Design Project too - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Copy and Selectively Edit - I used the same layout as Susan's card, the inked ombre effect and a banner tag sentiment details, but no nighttime camping scene for me! I masked a circle on my white cardbase and stamped the 'Rays of Light' stamp inside it, using Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Calypso Coral inks and building the colour from the centre of the sunshine outwards. I added a couple of diecut clouds and added my sentiment to a yellow banner tag, as my sun was very hot and orange in colour and I wanted to bring out more yellow. I tied my tag with gold twine and added a trio of (retired) gold glimmer enamel dots to complete my card:

I'm also linking today's card up over at CAS on Friday where they currently have a theme of 'summer' too. As an aside, I will be guest designer for them for their next challenge, so you will definitely want to check them out :-) It's actually been quite grey here in the UK this week, so I'm hoping that August will see the return of the summer sunshine that I crave!

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

Here's a summary of our challenge rules:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging project that fits the challenge.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we can leave you lots of lovely comments. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSIXXX when uploading to a public gallery.
  • If you’re unsure about ‘the rules’, check the details under the Challenge Guidelines tab on the As You See It Challenge homepage.
  • In a Fill in the Blank challenge, complete the sentence in the Challenge Banner with the phrase that is true for you and create your project using the words you used. Tell us what you said in your blog or on your site.
We look forward to seeing your creations in the AYSI gallery.

Enjoy your day and I'll be back on Sunday with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

#SimpleStamping With Just My Type CCS515

by Joanne James4. July 2023 12:00

It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge over at CAS Colours & Sketches. Jeanne is hosting this month and our first challenge is a colour challenge:

For my card today I decided to play along with the challenge over at CAS on Friday where the theme is 'love' and make a super clean and simple card using the 'Just My Type' stamp set:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I couldn't resist the 'Just My Type' stamp set when I saw it in the annual catalogue - the cute typewriter, along with heart, flowers and rainbows makes for a fun set that is great for #SimpleStamping cards. I stamped my typewriter and sentiment onto my cardbase, then stamped a little plant that I fussy cut and popped up on a dimensional for a little extra detail:

Just stamps, ink and paper - #SimpleStamping at its best! I love that punny sentiment too - just perfect for a love note to someone special. I'm also linking today's card up over at Less Is More where the current theme is 'anything goes'.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

As a reminder, for our colour challenges, you must use all of the stated challenge colours. You may also use neutral colours; however, the challenge colours should be the most noticeable ones featured on your card. We use Stampin' Up! color names for reference, but you are welcome to use any other companies' products as long as you match the challenge colours as closely as possible.

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!
