Peepo Bunny Rabbit Punch Art

by Joanne James21. March 2013 22:06

So today's card was a case of something similar I saw on Pinterest which I actually made as a birthday card for a special 7 year old recently who is just mad about rabbits. I thought I would share today as it could just as easily be adapted to an Easter card. This is the front:

I used the 'Memorable Moments' stamp set to create the 'Happy 7th Birthday' - this is a great set that allows you to create custom birthday and anniversary greetings for pretty much any number combination. The outline stamp also fits the Labels Framelits perfectly. I love the idea of the rabbit hopping into his hidey-hole, only to open the card and see him reappear on the inside.

Here's a close-up of the inside:

You can see the detail of his face and the subtle sponging just adds texture and character to his features. My favourite has to be the extra-large pompom tail on the front though I just love it!

So only one more day of Sale-A-Bration left - if you have an order to place or would like to sign up for the enhanced starter kit, you've got less than 24 hours to get in touch with me, so don't delay!

Back tomorrow with more Easter ideas - might even show something using one of the Sale-A-Bration sets, for all you early-birds who already have your free stamp sets and are looking for more great ways in which to use them. Until then, happy stampin'!

Stampin' Up Supplies:

Stamps: Memorable Moments, Woodgrain. Inside greeting is from a retired set - the current set 'A Word For You' is very similar though.

Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Basic Black, Pretty in Pink, Gumball Green

Inks: Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip

Tools: Itty Bitty Punches, Large Oval, Small Oval, Circle Punch (various sizes), Ornament Punch, Owl Punch (for nose), Labels Framelits, Trimmer

Finishing Touches: Basics pearls.

Easter Chicks Simply Scored

by Joanne James17. March 2013 21:50

So I thought it was about time I started with some Easter cards, otherwise it will be here before we know it and I won't have shared any ideas with you. I took the opportunity to play with my Simply Scored Borders scoring plate today and used it to decorate some Easter eggs for my newly hatched chicks:

It's taken me a while to get used to the new scoring plate, but now that I have I'm finding it useful for all kinds of things. Stampin' Up! have made a great video tutorial showing how to use the new plate, which does work differently to the other plates as it has an overlay guide too - click on the video link here if you'd like to know more.

In case you're wondering where the chicks came from - they are the bird from the two-step bird punch, sponged around the edges to add definition. I love punches like this that have multiple uses!

The children had a Spring Fayre at school yesterday and won a runner-up prize in the Easter Egg Hunt of a chocolate egg and a chocolate rabbit - they were delighted and as they devoured the egg this afternoon, decided Easter has officially begun! I'll be back tomorrow with another Easter card; until then, happy stampin'!

Stampin' Up Supplies:

Stamps: Wacky Wishes

Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Wisteria Wonder, Island Indigo, Calypso Coral, Lucky Limeade, Daffodil Delight

Ink: Daffodil Delight, Island Indigo

Tools: Simply Scored Borders Scoring Plate, Ovals Framelits, Two-Step Bird Punch

Finishing Touches: Linen Thread

Bloomin' Marvelous Thank You Cards

by Joanne James3. March 2013 21:59

I've been out a wedding fair all day today but as I haven't blogged for a few days, thought I'd do a quick post to share with you some thank you cards I made for the lovely ladies who placed orders at the last party I ran. I wanted something simple as I had several to make and decided to use the Sale-A-Bration Bloomin' Marvelous stamp set as many of them had chosen it as their free gift with a £45 order and I wanted to give them a little inspiration. So this is what I came up with:

I love the effect you can get by using a frame within your picture to add focus, and by stamping the third butterfly and punching out it looks like the butterflies are almost flying off the page. A little sparkle adds a finishing touch. I also used the precut notelet and envelope sets to make these (card measures 12.7 x 8.9cm), so I didn't even need to cut and score the basic cardstock - super quick. If you would like this stamp set, Sale-A-Bration is running for another 19 days so drop me a line if you would like to place an order. That's it for today - I'm off to soak my aching feet!

Until next time, happy stampin'!

Stampin' Up Supplies:

Stamps: Bloomin' Marvelous

Cardstock: Pool Party, Whisper White

Ink: Pool Party, Primrose Petals, Raspberry Ripple, Island Indigo

Tools: Bitty Butterfly Punch

Finishing Touches: Dazzling Details, Whisper White Notelets and Envelopes

Love Story Anniversary Card

by Joanne James26. February 2013 20:18

I know Valentine's Day is done and dusted, but this month I also celebrated my wedding anniversary, so forgive the hearts but I've another romantic card to share with you today.

The design of this card is cased from Brian King; you can see his original card here. I loved this card the first time I saw it and knew that I was going to have to re-create it. As I don't have the Hearts Framelits, my method was slightly different; I used a large heart punch to make the negative heart shape on the central panel, with the pink heart cut out using one of the Hearts a Flutter framelits and the white heart in the centre using the small heart punch. The winning element for me is the sentiment though - it summed up my thoughts perfectly and seems as appropriate after 14 years of marriage as it would on a wedding day. The colour combination also ticks my box; I find myself using lots of Grey and Melon Mambo lately.

Hope you like it; I'll be back with something different tomorrow. Until then, happy stampin'!

Stampin' Up Supplies:

Cardstock: Melon Mambo, Basic Grey, Whisper White

Stamps: One in a Million

Ink: Melon Mambo

Tools: Large Heart Punch, Hearts a Flutter Framelits, Small Heart Punch, Big Shot

When is a Heart not a Heart? When it's a Flower!

by Joanne James3. February 2013 21:34

Back today as promised with a 3D project for you. I've seen a number of versions of similar pictures to these in cyberspace and am not sure who gets the credit for the original version - possibly the Australian company Mondo Cherry (you can check out their website here). Anyway, I've always wanted to have a go at creating one of these hearts, so inspired by my absolutely favourite new designer paper, More Amore, and hearts in a variety of shapes and sizes, this is what I came up with:

I kept things simple and just finished off with a few pearls to add interest. I love the way you get to see both sides of the paper in the design too - often one side is sacrificed for the other.

I think this would make such a lovely piece of wall art and would look beautiful in a little girl's bedroom. That's where this particular version is headed; my daughter loved it the moment she set eyes on it and has been desperate for me to take its picture and blog it so that it can be hung in its final destination! I love the effect that this kind of design creates; I may have a go with brighter colours and a more random pattern some other time - watch this space!

That's all for today - until next time, happy stampin'!

Stampin' Up Supplies:

Paper: Whisper White, More Amore (DSP)

Tools: Full Heart Punch, Small Heart Punch, Hearts a Flutter Framelits, Simply Scored, Bone Folder

Finishing Touches: Pearl Basic Jewels

Love Letters Straight From The Heart

by Joanne James1. February 2013 10:10

We are back to the LOVE theme today, with a cute set of four notelets with a coordinating box. I have designed them with Valentine's Day in mind, but these little 3" notelets are perfect for tucking into a lunchbox or loved one's pocket for a surprise love note.

I've used a selection of stamp sets to create this set:

From the left, do you recognise the stamp used on the first card? I created the patchwork heart design by using my marker pens to colour the central section of the 'recover rapidly' Band-Aid stamp from the Sale-A-Bration Patterned Occasions stamp set, aligning each one with my trusty stamp-a-ma-jig to align them into a neat patchwork pattern. The second stamp is from a now retired set called 'Sprinkled Expressions' and the third uses the cross stitch heart from the Hoop La La set in the main catalogue. Lastly, the heart/flower stamp is one of 24 available in the set 'Spring Sampler' available in the new Spring Summer seasonal catalogue that goes live TODAY! There are lots and lots of lovely new items, some of which I've already featured and many of which you will see on my blog during the coming weeks and months. There is a link to the catalogue on the right hand side of my page; if you would like your own copy of the catalogue or would like to place an order, do get in touch with me at joanne@thecraftyowl and I will be happy to help.

I also whipped up a lovely two-tone box to keep them all in out of melon mambo cardstock with a co-ordinating regal rose flap shaped using one of the small Labels Collection framelits. To finish off, I stamped and cut a pair of hearts using the Hearts a Flutter set to tuck the box flap into and hold it in place.

My little girl has had her eye on these ever since she saw me putting them together, so I'm thinking I might slip the first one of mine into her school bag for a little surprise. The second might go into my husband's lunch box - assuming I stop crafting for long enough to make him a sandwich of course! I hope you are inspired to have a go and make something similar - do leave me a comment and let me know who you are sending yours to. Off to create now - until next time, happy stampin'!

Hearts A Flutter - Valentine's Wishes

by Joanne James27. January 2013 22:00

That most romantic time of year, Valentine's Day, is just around the corner so I thought it was about time I shared with you some of my latest creations with love in mind.

So first up is a Valentine's card in classic red and white.

I used my typeset alphabet for the white 'I' and 'YOU' and set on a red mat for definition, then used a layered heart as a substitute for 'LOVE'. The fancy base heart and top hearts are stamped and cut with the Hearts a Flutter stamps and framelits set featured in the new Spring/Summer catalogue, due out on February 1st, with a solid red heart punched using a full heart punch layered in between. Lastly, a scoreline around the red mat to add definition and it's done.

I'll be posting lots more Valentine's projects during the next couple of weeks, so do drop by and check them out. Until then, happy stampin'!
