Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's my turn to host this week and I have a colour challenge for you to work with:

I love a bright colour palette and my choices today were inspired by a one sheet wonder I made a little while ago. I loved the colours together so much I decided to see what you would make of my colour combination. For today's card I used the current Inspire.Create Challenge sketch for my layout and decided these colour would be perfect for a balloon-carrying hippo - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I used the 'Hippo Happiness' stamp set and co-ordinating Hippo & Friends Dies to stamp and cut out my cute hippo and balloons and mounted him on a stitched shaped panel that is also found in the Hippo & Friends die set. I mounted this on a stitched rectangle of Pool Party cardstock and added this to a Melon Mambo base, to which I'd added a Tasteful Textile embossed panel and strip of co-ordinating Brights DSP. I couldn't resist adding some co-ordinating decoration to the inside of my card along with the second part of my punny sentiment too:

The stamping for today's card was pretty straightforward, however I do have one top tip for you with regard to stamping the hippo: he is a two-step stamped image and I found it much easier to align the stamps if I stamped the uppermost stamp (i.e. the navy one on my card) first, with the full body (i.e. the one I stamped in Pool Party) second.

I struggled a little with today's card as I don't know anyone getting married and I just couldn't seem to get into the zone! In the end I decide to flip the Paper Craft Crew Sketch and make an anniversary card using a new stamp from the upcoming Autumn-Winter catalogue - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

This cute cupid comes from the new 'Flight of Fancy' set. The set also features a whimsical angel and a witch on a broomstick, and whilst I think this cupid may have been designed with Valentine's Day in mind, paired with this sentiment from the 'Heartfelt' stamp set and a row of Stitched Be Mine stacked diecut hearts, I think he makes a sweet anniversary card too. Simply coloured with Blends and a liberal dose of clear Wink of Stella, plus some (retired) gold Wink of Stella to highlight his curls and bow, along with a sprinkling of rhinestones, makes for quite the cherub, don't you think?

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the wonderful Anne Marie to host and this week it's my favourite, a sketch challenge:

I deliberated over this week's sketch then decided to go with an idea that I had been mulling over - take a look at my finished card:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Whale of A Time - My whole card this week was based on a couple of my favourite patterns in the Whale Of A Time DSP pack. There are some amazing patterns in this pack but the ones featuring the turtles stole my heart the minute I set eyes upon them! I have had so many special encounters with turtles when scuba diving that these graceful sea creatures will always be special to me. I could happily never have cut these papers, but when I saw Anne Marie's sketch this week I saw a way to use these patterns in a fun way. I used the piece with the small turtles swimming on the current for my base, then added a section featuring the larger turtles for the central section. I wanted it to appear almost as if the turtles on the central panel were a magnified version of the turtles behind. Furthermore, I was careful to choose which piece to cut for my central panel; doesn't that green turtle in the centre appear to be looking at you head on? Here's a close-up so you can see what I mean:

Flip The Sketch - It was the diagonal on the sketch that made me think of the paper design featuring the turtles travelling on the current, but they weren't swimming in the right direction. To solve the issue, I flipped the sketch along the vertical edge and inverted all of the elements. I also made the central rectangle smaller and borderless (I didn't want to obscure the diagonal of turtles too much) and my sentiment banner slightly longer to accommodate my chosen sentiment. My interpretation of the sketch is less literal this week, however you can still clearly see all of the elements.

It's Not All About The Paper - Whilst the front of my card most definitely focuses on my chosen papers, this card is not all about the paper! I added some stamping to the corner of my envelope and added this cute punny sentiment inside along with some colourful shoals of fish to complete my card:

Whilst at first glance my card may appear simple, it actually took a lot of thought to bring my ideas to fruition. So what do you think? Do you like the end result? Do leave me a comment below - I would love to hear your thoughts!

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous Jaydee to host and this week it's a special one - it's our 500th challenge! Can you believe it? 500 challenges! Paper Players has been one of my favourite challenges ever since I started blogging; it was the first challenge I ever entered - that card was for the sketch challenge PP164 and you can see my card here if you'd like a trip down memory lane. I've been designing with this fabulous team since challenge PP203 (you can see that card here) and they seriously are a special bunch!

It's clean and simple week and in light of our milestone we simply had to go with a celebratory theme:

I combined our theme with this week's colours over at The Spot and the sketch over at CAS Colours and Sketches and came up with a fun birthday card - take a look:

With that in mind, here's the low-down on today's card:

B Is For... - I used the new set 'Monogram Messages' to spell out my birthday greeting today and thought the colours over at The Spot were perfect for a bold and colourful birthday card for a discerning teenage girl - and I have lots of those to make cards for these days! I heat embossed my greeting in gold on black and layered my oval on a scalloped one of gold foil. I used a few layers on today's card but I kept my design clean with blocks of colour to maintain the CAS feel.

A Rainbow Glimmer Tip - I added a couple of glimmer balloons punched with my Balloon Bouquet punch, one in Magenta Madness and one in Pool Party - I just love the effect of all that sparkle! I have a little tip for you when punching glimmer paper: if you gently run a Stampin' Blend in a co-ordinating colour around the edge, it will colour any white fibres and blend the edge perfectly with the glitter on the front of the card. I added a couple of gold twine bows and threads too.

Don't Forget The Inside - I added a sentiment from 'Zany Zebras' to the inside of my card, along with a couple of stamped balloons with hand-drawn strings to continue the party feel:

I love this funky colour scheme and simple layout - perfect for a clean and simple yet special birthday card.

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous LeAnne to host this week and she has a subtle colour challenge for you to work with:

I had been trying to decide on how best to use the fabulous sketch over at Fab Friday (so many possibilities!) which was crying out for the showcasing of some designer series paper (and my regular readers will know that my love of paper means I had A LOT to choose from!) and then when I saw this week's challenge over at Just Add Ink I knew I had the answer of how best to use LeAnne's colours this week. I went with flowers and texture and set to work - this is what I came up with:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Peony Garden and Customise With Colour - The soft florals and subtle colouring of the Peony Garden papers were the perfect starting point for the main panel of my card. I used my Stampin' Blends in the challenge colours to customise my paper, adding yellow centres to the flowers, Smoky Slate leaves and then the 'negative space' between the flowers was coloured in with Seaside Spray. 

Subtle Texture And Detail - Whilst the DSP is clearly the star of this card, the panel and sentiment gave plenty of opportunity to add additional interest in terms of texture and detail. I embossed a panel of Seaside Spray cardstock with my favourite Subtles embossing folder and added a strip of co-ordinating scalloped linen ribbon to the bottom edge. I also added a few (retired) in-color faceted gems to my sentiment banner, and wrapped the embossed panel with white twine tied into a bow beneath this.

Magnolia Words - The sentiment on my card today comes from the 'Good Morning Magnolia' stamp set and whitst the outside is a standard thank you, I just had to share the lovely words that grace the inside of my card:

What a lovely way to complete a card!

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the super-talented Ann to host this week and she has a fun theme challenge for you to work with:

I have a rather special card for you today - in fact, I have two cards for you! My sister-in-law celebrated a significant birthday recently and so I wanted something fancy to mark the occasion. I had seen an easel card using the Blossoms in Bloom bundle by Kylie Bertucci and decided to take the idea but step it up a notch with my own design and one of my favourite new products from the new annual catalogue - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

An Easel Card Fancy Fold - Today's post is super picture-heavy, as this is the easiest way to explain how I made my card and show each of the layers/folds. Here is the card in its standing position, with an acetate front panel to showcase the Many Layered Blossoms Dies, which is attached to a trifold panel of white cardstock:

This is the card with both of the outer flaps folded in, which shows the ledge that holds the easel up when on display:

And this is how the card opens out fully, to show the inside panels, ready for my birthday message:

I decorated both of these panels with a co-ordinating pattern in the Artistry Blooms designer series paper pack, in a pretty ombre pattern that matches the pink-orange-yellow tones of the rainbow glimmer paper:

And this is the inside of the outermost flap (the one with the ledge that holds up the acetate panel on the reverse) - I used one additional layered diecut split into three pieces to decorate the outer edge and both of the inner panels:

This is how the card folds flat for mailing, although with all of those layers it is still quite bulky and probably worthy of delivery by hand:

Rainbow Glimmer Love - So the rainbow glimmer paper is definitely one of my favourite products in the new annual catalogue. Whether it's the green-blue-purple hues of yesterday's project or the pink-yellow-oranges of today, I love it!! Just look at the variation on colour and the sparkle and shimmer it has:

You can achieve a totally different look, depending on where you cut from the sheet - and as with all of our glimmer papers, there is no shedding and no mess!

Two For One - I love this glimmer paper so much, I couldn't bear to see any of it go to waste. I used some Press and Seal to keep all of the waste diecut pieces from the above card together, then created a second card where I paper-pieced these into a white outline die - take a look at both cards together to get a better idea of what I'm talking about: 

Here's my yellow card on its own - no fancy fold this time, but a yellow base and then after paper-piecing the rainbow glimmer pieces into a white layer, I then added a Blackberry Bliss outer layer for additional definition:

I also used my offcuts to get a couple of single flowers cut and used them to decorate this inside of this card:

I know I'm biased but is that not just the prettiest pair of cards you've ever seen?! I really love both of them. A fancy fold is always fun and the rainbow glimmer paper totally moves this card up a notch in my book!

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of sweet Claire to host this week and she has my favourite, a sketch challenge for you to work with:

With all these lovely layers I decided Claire's sketch was perfect to showcase some designer series paper. Lots to choose from, but I eventually settled on the Flowers For Every Season paper again - I've been having so much fun with these floral designs. This is what I came up with:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Flowers For Every Season - I chose two co-ordinating patterns with a Misty Moonlight background for today's card - I love this blue and I've been itching to use this sunflower floral pattern. This paper contains four of the five new in-colours, so is also perfect for the current challenge over at Fab Friday, where the aim is to use one or more of these new colours. These papers really are the star of my card and I wanted them to be prominent; I used the Flowers For All Season twine to represent the vertical panel/column so that it wouldn't detract from or obscure the florals beneath.

A Wish For Everything - The sentiment on this card could be used for a number of different occasions and it is definitely one of my favourites in the 'A Wish For Everything' set.

Memories and More - I added a co-ordinating floral embellishment from the Flowers For Every Season Memories and More pack to my stitched rectangle sentiment panel, with a twist of Cinnamon Cider ribbon beneath it for added decoration. Here's a closer look:

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's my turn to host this week and I have a clean and simple challenge for you to work with:

I always need lots of thank you cards and at this time of year as the academic year is coming to and end, even more so. A good clean and simple design that can be easily replicated can come in very handy. So a quick reminder for you - over at The Paper Players, what do we mean by Clean and Simple?

I decided to play along with a new-to-me-challenge Color My Heart Color Dare and go with a monochromatic yellow card to test run my new in-color Bumblebee ink with my Celebrate Sunflowers set - take a look:

I kept my card super-simple, with a white card base, a piece of in-colour DSP in Bumblebee and then added a white panel onto which I had stamped a partial sunflower in yellow and added a scored border detail. I offset this panel onto the DSP and added a trio of enamel dots and a white on yellow heat embossed sentiment, that I fussy cut and popped up on dimensionals.

I like the finished card so much I think I'll make a few more in the other in-colours and use these for the first of my in-colour club cards this month!

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the lovely Laurie to host this week and she has an interesting colour challenge for you to work with:

First up, I have a confession to make: I couldn't find my Tranquil Tide ink pad so substituted with Garden Green. I have a few projects for you today; armed with Narelle's sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches I decided to use some retired designer series papers in the challenge colours and my 'Harvest Hellos' stamp set to make a couple of teacher thank you cards and some cute gift packaging.  Here's the first of my cards:

Some simple layering of my DSP and a stamped and punched apple, along with a 'thanks' diecut courtesy of the Well Written Dies, completed my card. I actually made two - on the second one, I reversed the layering of the papers and had the letter paper in front as opposed to the numbers:

 I added some simple stamping to the inside of my card from the same set:

I had picked up a couple of cute apple notepads that I thought would be perfect for some extra small teacher gifts so took the opportunity to create some co-ordinating boxes for my cards, complete with tags:

The apple folds flat but when clipped open it forms an apple shape, so I just had to create a lidded box that could present it whole for full effect - here are both projects together:

BASIC BLACK A4 CARDSTOCK (£8.25)

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the lovely Anne Marie to host this week and she has a fun theme challenge for you to work with:

I used Julee's current Mojo Monday sketch for my layout and decided to use my 'Under My Umbrella' stamp set that really hasn't seen that much ink since I had it so I decided to remedy that - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I used some retired Sale-A-Bration raindrop patterned paper for my vertical panel, then created a rainbow from a series of narrow strips for the horizontal one. I then added some fussy cut wellies filled with punched flowers and a bright yellow umbrella, punched with my Umbrella Builder punch, along with my sentiment on a stitched square, to finish. This card was quite quick to complete once I'd decided what to do and is rather bright and cheery; in hindsight, all it's missing is some sunshine. What can I say - aren't we all!
