Tomorrow it will be Mother's Day here in the UK. Since that's my day for posting my Paper Players card, I'm posting these in advance of the day as I'm pretty sure that they won't be seen here by either recipient ahead of time! I used the layout over at SUO Challenges for the cards for my Mother and Mother-in-law and made two identical cards in two different colourways. Here's the sketch layout:

And here's the first of my cards, featuring a Secret Sea base and Petunia Pop florals - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's cards:
I thought that large layered camellia-type flower in the Pretty Florals Dies would make a perfect accent flower for the corners, to frame my sentiment panel. The sentiment is a retired set called 'Mother's Love' that is a great size for a large card front (I made these cards at a larger than normal A5 size). The sentiment completes inside the card as follows:

I used the Lovely Stripes Embossing Folder for the background (easy to extend the embossing on a larger sheet of cardstock), inking the edges for added depth and layered the sentiment on some frames from the Branching Out Dies. You can see the layered effect with the two-tone cardstock more clearly below:

The second card is exactly the same design, but with a Night of Navy card base and Timid Tiger florals:

The real star of these cards is the two-tone cardstock I used for the flower petals and leaves - it makes it so easy to get a two-tone shading effect by simply flipping it over before diecutting the next layer:

On this card I flipped the paper for the second flower and used light on dark:

Two-tone cardstock comes in all Stampin' Up! colours and is definitely worth adding to your supplies if you like layering.
Here's both cards together - which colourway do you prefer?

I honestly don't think I can choose - I love them both!

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!
