Spring Sunshine and Tulips Coverplate

by Joanne James13. January 2026 09:00

Today I'm sharing a card that uses all of the colours on Color Dare's spring palette - they were so pretty together I couldn't stop at 3! -  and is perfect for Festive Friday's current challenge celebrating National Tulip Day (I chose yellow, orange and tulips from the board):

Today's card is full of the joys of spring in more ways than one - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Sunshine and Tulips Coverplate - Today's card features one of my favourite things in the new spring Stampin' Up! mini catalogue: the Sunshine & Tulips Dies and specifically the coverplate die. I love it when a die can be used as the basis for a cardfront and this one is actually quite versatile. |There are lots of ways to layer the flowers and the leaves stand up for a little extra dimension too. For today's card I cut the coverplate in Blamy Blue, then diecut the flower leaves in Shy Shamrock and clued them to the diecut base. I backed each of the flower heads in one of the three other challenge colours to create my tulips, but you could equally stamp them or inlay a solid die piece  - how you layer is really up to you. Once I'd glued the solid pieces of cardstock behind, I added the detail diecut into the aperture to give each flower more petal definition and detail.

Two-Tone Colour - I used one of my favourite tricks to achieve the darker toned colour for each of my tulip detail outlines: I coloured my cardstock with the dark Blend marker of the same colour to give a tone-on-tone effect. You could equally use both sides of two-tone cardstock if you prefer.

Sweet Sentiment - My card features a great label, also included in the die set, and a sweet sentiment from the co-ordinating stamp set:

I also added some ribbon tied with twine that picked up on the fresh colours of the flowers. I did look for some gingham ribbon, but alas I didn't have one in the right colours. Still pretty though, right?

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

Enjoy your day and I'll be back later in the week with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

I really love this cover plate, although you have way more patience than I do to inlay all the LITTLE PIECES!!!  But the final effect is so fun and cheerful! Love the ribbon treatment too! Great idea to color the cardstock with the blends as well!
