Dainty Delight Sympathy Card for Colour Hues #TCH64

by Joanne James16. May 2023 12:00

We are having a two-post Tuesday today since in addition to my regular CAS Colours & Sketches post, I am guesting with the team over at The Colour Hues Challenge following my win for challenge #62 with my purple and green card - you can see that card here if you missed it.

So their new challenge is an interesting one for this time of year - take a look:

Yes, orange and slate grey - a combination I rarely consider outside of Halloween season, so I found this one a challenge in the true sense of the word! I love the slate grey, but what to do with the orange? Having had a little play, I finally came up with something that I think works - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I decided to use the slate grey for my card base, adding some tone-on-tone splatter with a grey marker, and added a double sprig of flowers from Dainty Delight with a trio of white daisies. I used retired Pale Papaya for my stems, that I added Pumpkin pie ink to with a blending brush to bring out the orange tones, and used the true Pumpkin Pie Orange sparingly for small flower heads and daisy centres:

A sprinkling of gems and a white embossed sentiment complete my card. So what do you think? Did I successfully manage to use the orange to add a pop of colour to my otherwise sombre sympathy card? I hope so, but I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

My colours might have challenged you to begin with but you certainly came up with a fab card! The orange leaves and flower centers work so well against the grey background. Great to have you as our GD this time. Smile

This is beautiful! I just got this bundle and there are so many goodies in it, I don't know where to begin! Seeing your stunning array is a good way to get me started.  Works well for a lovely sympathy card.

Your card is absolutely BEAUTIFUL Joanne!  I too was a little stumped at first with these colors and thought of Halloween also, but ended up loving the color combo!  It looks like you did too as your card just couldn't be more lovely!  Thanks so much for guesting with us this time and inspiring our players with this wonderful card!  Marcia (DT)

You pulled off one gorgeous Sympathy card! So Sorry I am so late in popping by! I am dealing with Vertigo since coming back home and computer work makes it much worse. So happy to have you guesting with us at Color Hues! Hugs!

Joanne, your design and use of these colors is nothing short of brilliant! The stems of light and dark oranges works beautifully against the slate gray background and the touch of the white layer underneath along with the pretty daisies just pulls it all together.  While you may have been stumped initially, you ended up creating one gorgeous card, my friend! So, so happy to have you as guest designer for this challenge!

I love this too. The dark background highlights the gorgeous, sinuous curve of the spray. The colour combination is so stylishly elegant. It it perfect. Smile

Absolutely gorgeous! You have used the orange beautifully!  And now I have another die set that I need to add to my wishlist since you've shown me how amazing that set can be.

Joanne, I'm with you in seeing orange and slate grey as Halloween colours and yes, a bit of a challenge to move beyond that box, indeed (although going Halloween would have been fun, too...I nearly did). Your flowers are ever so lovely and really pop against the grey base. Wonderfully inspired and inspiring! Great to have you as our guest designer.
