Best Dad Ever Masculine Card And A Frog Story

by Joanne James29. May 2017 08:00

Happy Bank Holiday Monday to all my UK readers today and to all those in the USA - Happy Memorial Day. I hope you've all been enjoying the long weekend and perhaps have even been able to squeeze in a little extra crafting time too. Today I'm sharing a couple of cards - the first one using this week's sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches:

I still need a couple of Father's Day cards so decided to use up a few more retiring products and 'go masculine' - perfect for the challenge over at SUO Challenges too. Here's my card:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Best Dad Ever - This sentiment is from the 'Everyday Tags' stamp set, whilst designed to co-ordinate with the Cheerful Tags Framelits Dies, also makes a great focal sentiment for my card.

Layered Squares - I can't seem to put down my Layering Squares lately! Here I adapted them slightly to create a rectangle that would frame my sentiment better and used a piece of Urban Underground Specialty Designer Series Paper for my background.

Nailed It - I paper-pieced three tools from the 'Nailed It' set for my embellishments and cut them out by hand as I didn't want a border around the edge. I also used the 'Happy Father's Day' stamp inside my card.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any. Is your Dad a tools man into DIY or would you choose an alternative theme for your card? Do let me know in the comments below - I would love to hear your thoughts.

My second card today is a super quick clean and simple card that uses this week's sketch over at CAS Colours and Sketches and just so happens to use this week's palette over at the Color Throwdown:

Here's my card:

No real explanation required here - some retired washi tape, a sentiment from 'Greatest Greetings' and that sweet frog from the retiring 'Love You Lots' hostess set - but there is a funny story that goes with it: Rebecca was playing a game with her friends at school this week where they were Googling the song that was number one in the charts the day that they were born. I must confess I had no idea what was at the top of the hit parade when Rebecca was born, however I was mildly amused when she informed me it was 'Crazy Frog' by Axel F (yes, that irritating tune that was little more than a mobile phone ringtone!) and that everyone else was really jealous as theirs was quite boring by comparison! I must be getting old as I don't even consider 'Crazy Frog' music!!! Anyway, after this fun revelation I had the urge to make her a frog card; I sometimes make little notes to go into the James Juniors pencil cases as a little surprise and this is where this notelet is headed!

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Opposites Attract - Love You Lots Notelet

by Joanne James17. February 2017 20:32

Yay it's Friday! It has felt a little like the weekend here today as my hubby has had the day off today having been away all week so the four of us have spent the day doing fun family things - a little more on that on Sunday's post though! Today I'm sharing a little card that I made for this week's challenge over at Less Is More where the challenge is for a one layer card featuring opposites that also works for the current CASology challenge too:

I haven't managed to play along with the LIM ladies for a while but as they are celebrating their birthday this month I was determined to squeeze in an entry at some point. I toyed with 'rain and shine' but decided to allow the ideas percolate in the back of my mind as I went about my jobs this week and as I was flicking through my Stampin' Up! catalogue last night I was suddenly inspired - take a look:

Cute eh?! Here's the low-down on today's card:

Love You Lots - I happened across the hostess set 'Love You Lots' and realised it had the perfect pair of opposites with the massive elephant and the teeny tiny mouse. I decided they would be perfect for a little love note ready for one of my James Juniors next week.

Another Way With Watercolour Pencils - I wanted to try something a little different in terms of technique on this card too: I stamped my pair and sentiment in Archival Grey ink and coloured them with my Basic Grey and Whisper White watercolour pencils and my aquapainter onto a Crumb Cake (kraft) cardstock notelet. The lovely Darnell Kraus of NBUS fame used this as an optional theme on one of her recent challenges (check out Darnell's creations and the wonderful gallery on her blog here) and it intrigued me; I decided today's card would be the perfect opportunity to try it out; I must say I really like the effect.

A quick heads up for any of you with Watercolour Pencils on your wish lists; they have been incredibly popular with demand outstripping supply. Current stocks are likely to last only another few weeks before ordering will be suspended temporarily in order for stock levels to be replenished, so if you want to get your hands on them in the short term order now; once current stock has run out, they are estimated to be re-orderable mid- to late April.

And Finally A Love Heart - I finished my card with a tiny Blushing Bride enamel heart to add just a pop of colour to my otherwise neutral card. I toyed with adding some Blushing Bride baker's twine but decided against it - after all, sometimes less is more!

A sweet notelet using minimal supplies and perfect to send a few words of love!

Thank You Friend Ladybirds

by Joanne James5. July 2016 17:31

I've had a busy day today with my 'Jar of Love' technique class this morning and a wonderful afternoon of Project Life memory keeping. I made a quick card yesterday for a couple of challenges that I wanted to share with you today:

 PCCCS 162-205-011   AYSIBackground_Theme-001

I loved this sketch over at Paper Craft Crew and was attracted to the red and white theme over at As You See It, although I don't have a Canadian card I'm afraid! I've been keen to ink up the cute ladybird pair from the hostess set 'Love You Lots' so that was straight where I headed for today's card:

Here's the low-down on the detail:

Thank You, Friend - This adorable ladybird pair comes in one of the new hostess sets in the annual catalogue called 'Love You Lots'. This is such a fun set with a fun frog, cute pair of hedgehogs, and an adorable elephant and mouse in addition to this spotted pair and is exclusively available to anyone who hosts a Stampin' Up! party or places a single order of £150 or more. I stamped my ladybirds in black and coloured them with my Real Red Stampin' Write marker and added my simple sentiment.

Faux Washi Tape Border - I used the striped stamp from Gorgeous Grunge that I used on my Jar of Blooms card yesterday (you can see that card here if you missed it) to create a border along the top of the central panel; I think it looks like washi tape, which would of course be a good alternative if you don't have this set. I added some white baker's twine, a red button and a tiny banner to finish this edge.

Paper With Meaning - For my background frame, I decided to use the scripted paper from the Brights designer series paper stack. I love this paper but as it's so busy I tend to use it with caution. The clean and simple central panel and the overall sentiment of my card made this paper a good choice here.

This card and a couple more just like it are headed to Rebecca's friends this week; I haven't made a monochromatic card in a while and this one is really fun.
