Giggle Greetings On Film CAS Birthday Card

by Joanne James31. May 2021 10:55

It's a Bank Holiday here in the UK today and the sun is shining - woohoo! There will be more gardening rather than crafting done here today, but fear not - I have a card to share with you that I made over the weekend inspired by a few challenges:

   RRCB 159

I was inspired by both the colours and the inspiration photo over at Color Throwdown this week and decided to dig into my retired stash for the perfect stamp - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Giggle Greetings - The less-than-impressed feline that features on today's card is from a retired Stampin' Up! set called 'Giggle Greetings' from 2013 - so perfect for the 'anything goes' challenge over at Retro Rubber this week! I loved the corny sentiments and greetings in this set and have used it lots of times, so it was always going to make it into my 'keep' pile. I coloured my cat simply with my Blends markers and split the sentiment, masking off part of the words on the stamp on the front of my card and then continuing these on the inside:

On Film - I decided to 'frame' my cat with another retired product - this time the film roll from the On Film Framelits, another gem from 2014. These are so great for highlighting images when scrapbooking, which is primarily why I still have them in my stash, but they also came in useful for the challenge over at CASology this week where the cue word is 'photo':

Dots and Spots - The main image is mostly grey so I wanted to incorporate some of that lovely yellow into my card to just lift things a little. I decided to add a couple of small pieces of DSP (this is a CAS card after all) and chose some with both dots and spots and added them behind my film/photo. This way they don't overwhelm and the colour palette remains simple, whilst still adding brightness to the card. This also meets the brief over at Just Us Girls this week - I can't remember the last time I created a card worthy of all these challenges all at the same time and I wasn't even trying!

I know exactly who will be receiving this card - lots of my friends are approaching the big '50' and some are looking forward to it more than others, so this will be a fun way to raise a smile!

No visual summary or product table of the key products used on today's project as most of them are no longer available to purchase.

One last reminder today - if you have been considering taking advantage of the current Stampin' Up! joining offer where you can choose £154 for £99, today is your last chance - read all about it here and join my team here - can't wait for you to be part of the fun!

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

You Did It! With Giggle Greetings

by Joanne James7. February 2016 09:00

Did you miss me? Apologies for the lack of blog posts over the last couple of days. I've had plenty of projects, just not enough time to write up! However today it's Sunday and time for a new challenge over at The Paper PlayersThis week it is the turn of my talented friend LeAnne to host and she has a fun theme challenge for you to play along with:

This proved something of a tricky week for me! As someone known for not being the world's biggest pet lover, I don't have much in the way of cats or dogs in my stamp collection. I'd been thinking about what I was going to do for this challenge all week, wondering whether I should get creative with some punch art, when I had a 'light bulb' moment and thought I would use my Balloon Builders set and build a dog. When I looked at my finished attempt, I wasn't sure about it; my husband poked his head round my office door, looked at it and said "Well, maybe it could pass for Wylie Kyote ... are you SURE you don't have any cat or dog stamps??" and proceeded to go searching along my shelves! So needless to say the balloons got tossed aside in favour of this card, as my dear husband had a 'Eureka!' moment and discovered my long-unused Giggle Greetings set:

I used this week's Colour Q palette and coloured my dog with my retired Blendabilities and created some fun layers with some embossing using my large polka dots embossing folder on the top one. I framed my stamped piece using my Circle Framelits, added a few banners from some retired scraps of designer series paper and some thick Cherry Cobbler baker's twine and my card is complete.

A fun puppy dog that as it turns out was perfect for the job and since I needed a few congratulations cards too I got one of those into the bargain! That will teach me to get all creative and not check my collection thoroughly first!! (edited to add: I did decide to put the balloon animal to good use, although balloon dog might be considered a stretch! You can find him here - let me know what you think!)

Before you reach for your ink and papers, check out what our amazing team has created to inspire you this week:

Giggle Greetings Meets Cherry on Top

by Joanne James20. June 2015 20:58

Hello lovely blog readers! Today I have a card to share that is for this week's Mojo Monday challenge. Before I share it though I wanted to give a congratulations shout out to Justin Krieger and Lori Tecler who were both recently selected to become members of the Mojo Monday Design Team. I admire both of their work and am so pleased they will be joining with the talented Julee and other DT members to provide Mojo inspiration. So here is this week's sketch:

I decided those circles would be great to try something I've had in mind ever since I saw the Cherry on Top DSP stack - take a look:

I've been wanting to pair that bowl of cherries image from the Giggle Greetings stamp set with the cheery DSP in the Cherry on Top DSP stack and this layout was a great way to try it out. I used Cucumber Crush for my base then cut a partial circle out of my Whisper White mat using my Circles Framelits and placed a piece of cherry DSP beneath it. I added the flags in Cucumber Crush and Watermelon Wonder and stamped the sentiment in two parts, one on each, having masked off the rest of the stamp:

I added another circle of patterned paper from the Cheery on Top DSP stack and then lastly added the circle with the bowl of cherries, which I stamped in Memento Black onto Whisper White and coloured with a combination of my Blendabilities for the cherries and my Stampin' Write markers and mounted on a circle of Cucumber Crush.

I love this fresh colour combo and such a fun way to combine old and new product. That's all from me today; I'm off to catch a movie! Back tomorrow with a new challenge over at the Paper Players; until then, happy stampin'!

Giggle Greetings Congratulations Card

by Joanne James29. April 2015 08:40

Today's card is a congratulations card that I made for someone I know who recently achieved a long-awaited promotion and I wanted to make her a quick card to celebrate her success. This week's sketch layout over at Fab Friday was perfect for what I had in mind:

I decided to use one of the fun images in the Giggle Greetings set and do a little colouring with my now-discontinued Blendabilities on the main image - here is my card:

I used the colours of the Retro Fresh washi tape for my card colour scheme, with a base of So Saffron and mats in Tangerine Tango and Baked Brown Sugar. I stamped my fun dog image on Very Vanilla in Memento Black and coloured him with my skin-tone Blendabilties (although in retrospect I think he might have looked better watercoloured in Baked Brown Sugar, but there we are!) I added a piece of washi tape on Very Vanilla with a gold button and linen thread as my embellishment and a banner flag from the retired Retro Fresh paper too.

A fun card to wish someone well with their new career path - I love the images in these sets and are so pleased that they aren't leaving the catalogue this year. I'll be back later with this week's Wednesday Weekly Deals - there appear to be some problems at the store currently and they haven't been updated. Until then, happy stampin'!

Giggle Greetings - The Perfect Birthday Card For A Grumpy Old Man!

by Joanne James5. September 2014 12:00

Finally it's Friday - although I'm not quite sure where this week went! Today I have a fun card that I made using the sketch and colour inspiration from a new-ish challenge appropriately called The Challenge that the talented Lesley Croghan is running on her blog Always Playing With Paper, which I'm entering for the first time:

I decided to use both the sketch and colour palette and since September is probably one of my biggest personal card-making months - many birthdays and anniversaries - took the opportunity to get cracking and add a birthday card to my pile. Here is my card:

I started out with the intention of making a female birthday card, but I quickly decided that the colour combination was better suited to a masculine card - and this fun stamp and sentiment from the 'Giggle Greetings' set would be perfect for a grumpy old man (I didn't have one in mind as I worked, but choosing a recipient won't be too difficult I'm sure!) I used my Coastal Cabana and Smoky Slate Stampin' Up! Blendabilities sets to colour my main image, and mounted this onto a layered mat of Night of Navy and Smoky Slate. I used Coastal Cabana for my card base and when I went to lay up my card, I felt it was a little bare, even for my 'clean and layered' style. So I decided to create my own tone-on-tone stamped background using the 'Congratulations' stamp from the 'Bravo' stamp set and some Coastal Cabana ink - I love how it turned out!

Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

Giggle Greetings Birthday - My First Blendabilities Coloured Card!

by Joanne James26. July 2014 23:24

A late post from me today - I returned late yesterday evening from a family mini break and seem to have spent all day today washing and ironing, isn't that always the way?! That's not strictly true - I did manage to get some long overdue gardening done this afternoon and fit in a grocery shop; all in all a very productive day! I made this card earlier in the week for my brother-in-law's  birthday; it's not until next week, but as he doesn't read my blog I know I'm safe to share! I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch challenge as the inspiration for my layout:

I've spent some time practising with my Blendabilities this week and thought today's card would be a great opportunity to show you just how great these fabulous markers are for achieiving a blended coloured image. Here is my card:

Since my Bro' is officially 'post 40' this year, this image and sentiment from the 'Giggle Greetings' set seemed rather appropriate. I coloured the candle and cheese with my Daffodil Delight and Coastal Cabana sets of markers and echoed these colours elsewhere in my card. I am loving these new pens - they allow for beautiful shading with seamless colour blending and are so easy to use - no previous expertise necessary, although if you're the type of person who liked to colour as a child, you may find them rather addictive! I also embossed the top layer of my card with the Large Polka Dot embossing folder - it kind of reminded me of the holes in the cheese, albeit a little too regular in design. Lastly, I went with thick baker's twine for my bow detail - as a true 'man's man', I'm not sure my brother-in-law would appreciate anything more fancy!

Back tomorrow with my design team card for the Paper Players this week when we have a great sketch challenge for you - and another card using my Blendabilities markers!

Until then, happy stampin'!
