Friendly Seagulls Two For One AYSI342

by Joanne James21. February 2025 12:00

Today I'm sharing my design team card for our new challenge over at As you See It where it's time for a theme challenge chosen by Jane:

I don't have many current sets featuring birds, but I still have lots of ideas for those fun Sale-A-Bration seagulls so they were an obvious choice for my card today - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Friendly Seagulls - Friendly Seagulls - I love these quirky birds! I stamped a whole sheet of these gulls and coloured them in, then fussy cut them so that I had a pile of them ready to decorate my projects as and when. For this card, I chose three that I could position around my sentiment and popped them up on dimensionals.

Mini Alphabet - Many of you will recognise my sentiment as a line from the famous Disney movie 'Finding Nemo' - I love that movie! I used my Mini Alphabet Dies to create my custom sentiment, cutting the alphabet several times in black and adhering to some white cardstock, cutting around this allowing for a border, to for the base:

If you're someone that has a habit of losing or misplacing letters in your alphabet die sets, the Mini Alphabet Dies might be a great solution for you! All of the letters are attached and you can diecut the whole alphabet (including duplicates of commonly used letters) in one go. Any letters you don't need you can set aside for future projects.

Two For One - Having completed my card, I used my leftover negative alphabet diecuts to make a second card: I simply cut each letter into a rectangle using my paper snips, and again adhered to a piece of white cardstock, this time with the white cardstock forming the letters courtesy of the negative diecuts:

This is a great tip I picked up from Melody Hyde of @hammondandpenny on Instagram who uses this technique a lot - what a great way to achieve 2 cards with one set of cuts, thanks Melody! You can see the detail more closely below:

Finally, I used my retired Seaside Impressions Embossing Folder to create my seascape background as I didn't have the new Soft Waves folder when I made this card (it is now in its way ;-) ) but I've added the shop link for it below, as this would be the product of choice if you want to recreate these cards.

Here are the visual summaries of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

Birthday Celebration Make A Wish Cupcake CCS 554

by Joanne James18. February 2025 12:00

It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge over at CAS Colours & SketchesThis week's challenge is a sketch challenge and Suzy has asked that we layer a couple of shapes with the sentiment behind:

Feel free to flip or rotate the sketch when making your card.

For my card today I decided to create a simple birthday card using the Birthday Celebration stamp set and Wildflower Celebration papers - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

This card was so simple to make: I stamped my sentiment onto a stitched circle and for my accent added a cupcake, complete with candle, that I fussy cut from one of the mixed sheets in the Wildflower Celebration paper pack:

A few party dots complete the front of my card. I used a combination of the other sentiments in the Birthday Celebration stamp set to create this oversize greeting inside my card too:

Easy as that - the Birthday Celebration Suite is perfect for quick and easy birthday cards.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

Birthday Celebration 18th and 21st Birthday Cards AYSI 341

by Joanne James7. February 2025 12:00

Today I'm sharing my design team card for our new challenge over at As you See It where it's time for a fun recipe challenge chosen by Jan:

I decided that I could find solutions to much of Jan's recipe in the Birthday Celebration suite, so I used that as my starting point. I used the layout over at Sketch Saturday and decided to create a special birthday card that was definitely inspired by that fabulous birthday cake in the Hand Stamped Sentiments inspo photo - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Birthday Celebration - The sketch layout was perfect for framing a large sentiment, so I made a large card measuring 21cm x 14.9cm and created a custom birthday greeting using the new Birthday Celebration bundle. This bundle is perfect for creating special cards for milestone birthdays; I stamped and heat embossed the words and added a diecut 21 from gold foil.

Wildflower Birthday - The real star of today's card is the tiered birthday cake - all decorated and ready to go, courtesy of the Wildflower Birthday designer series paper. In addition to the pretty patterned sheets, two of which I used to create my frame, there are two whole sheets of diecut cakes, flowers, balloons and more. Having used all of Jan's recipe ingredients apart from ribbon/twine, I decided to finish my card with a spray of Pretty in Pink and gold ribbons, each of which I frayed to create a fun confetti spray - it makes a change from a bow, don't you think?

A few gold sparkly enamel dots complete my card.

Not Just For The Girls - I loved the finished result of my first card, so on completion I decided to make a second card using the same products and layout, but this time with a more masculine feel:

I used another of the pre-embossed papers in the pack for my frame, this time using the same pattern for each panel, switched out the numbers for an 18 and adding another of the diecut cakes in the pack, this time backed with some gold twine:

I stamped a couple of banners behind the sentiment and added a sprinkle of gold sequins to finish. The Birthday Celebration Suite is perfect for fancy cards with lots of impact - the paper really does do a lot of the work and the diecut numbers are a great way to personalise your cards for a special milestone birthday or anniversary.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's projects for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

Here's a summary of our challenge rules:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D or packaging project that fits the challenge.
  • For a Recipe Challenge use all elements of the recipe - the possibilities within those parameters are endless.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the challenge in your post.

One Year Older CCS 553

by Joanne James4. February 2025 12:00

It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge over at CAS Colours & Sketches. Suzy is hosting this month and our first challenge is a colour challenge:

Whilst I love this week's trio of colours, I struggled to make them work together. I tried big and bold but ultimately settled on using each sparingly for a pop of CAS colour - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

One More Year - I do love a funny card, so as soon as I saw the 'One More Year' stamp set I knew I'd have to add it to my collection. Fun images and quirky sentiments, what's not to love? I used the pug on my birthday card today and used the challenge colours for the pup's tongue and party hat with a touch of neutrals for the dog himself:

Centre Focus - The team over at Addicted To CAS currently have 'centre focus' as their theme and my birthday pug was just perfect for a single image to create a central focal point. There's something about his comical expression that just draws you in I think. I'm also linking up over at Inspire Create Challenges where the theme is clean and simple - right in my wheelhouse.

Birthday Fun - The 'One More Year' stamp set is full of fun, quirky sentiments - the one on the front of today's card pairs with this one on the inside:

I used Stampin' Blends to colour my pup, but Stampin' Write markers to colour my sentiment in a combination of Summer Splash and Basic Black; selective inking and a quick huff on the stamp to moisten it before you stamp, this is an easy effect to create. Use a stamping platform too to make alignment easy. Now to decide who to send my quirky pup to!

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

As a reminder, for our colour challenges, you must use all of the stated challenge colours. You may also use neutral colours; however, the challenge colours should be the most noticeable ones featured on your card. We use Stampin' Up! colour names for reference, but you are welcome to use any other companies' products as long as you match the challenge colours as closely as possible.

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

A Trio of Rainbows With The Rainbow Celebration Card Kit

by Joanne James24. January 2025 12:00

Today I'm sharing my design team card for our new challenge over at As you See It where it's time for a fun 'fill in the blank' challenge for our first challenge of the year, chosen by Heather H:

I actually found this an easy one! I am often guilty of buying the fabulous kits that Stampin' Up! sells - then not finding the time to make them up! I love the idea of quick crafting and will often take a kit in my bag for a spot of 'crafting on the go' but rarely make time to make one up 'just for fun'. So I decided to start as I mean to go on and reached for the Rainbow Celebration card kit that I actually received FREE as part of our current Sale-A-Bration promotion and set to work. This card makes 6 cards, two each of three designs. Here's a shot showing all three designs:

The cards themselves are rainbow shaped and come with coordinating printed envelopes too. This is a no-stamping kit: the card bases are pre-printed and each of the designs requires the addition of a spotted rainbow band, some diecut clouds and two sentiment labels. All you have to do is sort the pieces and pair with the respective bases, then add the provided foam dimensionals to each of the pieces as per the instructions and then build the card. Here's a close-up of each of the designs in turn:

Here's the second one:

 And finally, the third design:

The cards are great for birthdays and to send someone congratulations - they took less than 10 minutes to put together and best of all the kit can be yours for FREE with a £55 purchase during the current Sale-A-Bration promotion - bonus! If that's not a reason to fall in love with kits, I don't know what is!

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference - just one number:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

Here's a summary of our challenge rules:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D or packaging project that fits the challenge.
  • For a Recipe Challenge use all elements of the recipe - the possibilities within those parameters are endless.
  • For a Colour Challenge use all of the given colours and only those colours with these exceptions:
    • White and Very Vanilla are free colours.
    • In addition, you may use of ONE of these neutrals: Basic Black, Basic Gray, Crumb Cake, Basic Beige.
  • For a Speed Stamping Challenge you must tell us the time it took to make your project and it must be finished in under 10 min.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the challenge in your post.
  • Make sure you link the specific post and not the whole blog to the Linky. Use AYSI#(insert challenge number) when uploading to a public gallery
  • Please turn off word verification so that we can send you lots of feedback.
  • You can combine our challenge with up to 3 other compatible challenges.
  • We do reserve the right to delete, or not consider for Top Pick and Featured Artist, entries that do not comply with these guidelines.

So how will you fill in the blank? What crafting habits are you looking to adopt in 2025? Do let me know in a comment below or better still, share with us over on the challenge page. We look forward to seeing your creations in the AYSI gallery.

Right, I'm off to make up two more kits that I've yet to break the seal on - the Perpetual Beauty Calendar and Nature's Beauty Watercolour Kit are calling my name! A Friendly Seagull At The Corner Shore CCS552

by Joanne James21. January 2025 12:00

It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge over at CAS Colours & SketchesThis week's challenge is a sketch challenge and Rachel has asked that we feature a torn corner on our cards:

Feel free to flip or rotate the sketch when making your card.

I couldn't wait to use today's sketch to feature a shoreline and one of the fun seagulls from the new 'Terrific Seagulls' stamp set - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

So Swirly Sea - I used my So Swirly embossing folder to add some texture to my sea; the new Soft Waves 3D embossing folder would work perfectly too (but I don't have that in my collection - yet!) I then tore a piece of basic white for my sea 'foam' and painted it liberally with my clear Wink of Stella for some added sparkle and shine:

Friendly Seagulls - This is my first card that I've made with the 'Friendly Seagulls' set, but I have loads more to share with you - I just love this set! Great for cards and scrapbooking alike, quirky seagulls, shells, fish and chips and cute sentiments, I have so many great ideas for this set! I stamped some tone-on-tone pebbles onto my Basic Beige card base, then coloured and fussy cut one of the gulls to paddle at the shoreline. I added another of the seagulls in the set to the inside of my card too:

Another fabulous FREE gift that can be yours with a £55 purchase during Sale-A-Bration - does this set make it into your shopping basket?

Finally A Confession - Finally, one last confession - it was only when I typed up my post that I realised that I put my sentiment in a different place to Rachel's sketch - hopefully she will forgive me!

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

Mixed Florals Berry Burst Thank You Card

by Joanne James10. January 2025 12:00

Today I'm sharing my design team card for our first challenge of the year over at As you See It where we are kicking things off with a colour challenge chosen by Heather C:

I used the current sketch layout over at SUO Challenges and grabbed a new stamp set and die bundle and set to work - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Mixed Petals is a new Online Exclusives stamp set that I thought would work well with the challenge colours. I used some retired Berry Burst gingham paper for my background panel, then added a diecut in Peach Pie glimmer paper and a second one of the large stamped image in the set, that I coloured with my Stampin' Blends. I liked the idea of created some variegated colour tulips - I love that tulips come in such vibrant colours in real life:

I used the greys for my stems and leaves; a little poetic license for sure, however I do love the finished effect as it really allows the petals to stand out. I added a thank you sentiment from 'Thoughtful Wishes' and few coloured pearls and enamel dots to complete my card.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

Simple Stamping with Terrific Toadstools for CCS

by Joanne James7. January 2025 12:00

It's Tuesday and time for a new year of challenges over at CAS Colours & Sketches. We have made few changes to our challenge this year - you can read about them in today's challenge post - and I'm sure you will agree they will set us up nicely for the year ahead. The lovely Rachel has taken over our blog admin and is also hosting this month. For our first challenge of the year we have a colour challenge:

For my card today I had to break open some new product to play with and given the rather autumnal hues of this week's colour combo, I decided to get back to nature and feature the new Terrific Toadstools stamp set - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Terrific Toadstools - The 'Terrific Toadstools' stamp set is great for simple stamping. Fun sentiments and a selection of different toadstool images to mix and match, along with a cute ladybird too, this is a great set where you need little more than stamps, ink and paper to create a card. It's photopolymer too, so really easy to line up as you can see where you are stamping easily.

Borderless Punch - Terrific Toadstools is actually a punch bundle - so if you're not a fussy cutting fan, you can achieve popped-up toadstools with ease. The punch is a borderless punch, that means that unlike some Stampin' Up! punches, where the image punches with a white border around the stamped image, the Terrific Toadstools punch punches the shape without a border. The punch was unfortunately not available on pre-order here in the UK, so I will be adding this to my collection at a later stage. For today's card I grabbed my paper snips and trimmed my mushroom pieces by hand - and because I like a white border, I left one in place as I trimmed :-)

Today's Top Tip - Whilst today's card is pretty much stamp, inks and paper, I do still have a top tip for you: I used a sponge dauber to add some Early Espresso to the gills of my mushrooms and to the edges of my mushroom stalks and I think this adds great depth and dimension to the simple mushroom shape:

What do you think? Do leave me a comment below - I'd love to hear your thoughts. How do these colours inspire you? Why not get out your supplies and link up your projects over at CAS Colours & Sketches - we'd love to see your creations.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

About Me

Hi I'm Joanne and live in Northampton and when I'm not looking after my husband and two beautiful children, am an avid crafter with a passion for all things Stampin' Up!

I must confess that I have never been a big rubber stamper - until I discovered Stampin' Up! that is. I love the fact that I can get such great results with co-ordinating stamps, inks, papers and punches - the possibilities are endless! Join me on my stamping journey as I share the things I love and be inspired to create amazing things yourself!
