Back On Your Feet Get Well Soon Card CC&S 429

by Joanne James20. July 2021 12:00

It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge over at CAS Colours & Sketches. Holly is hosting this month and our this week's challenge is a colour challenge:

For my card today I decided to use the sketch over at Fusion for my layout, but instead of going with graphic blues, I chose ombre greens for a 'get well soon' card featuring an out-of-sorts tortoise - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I used some retired paper that featured the challenge colours to create a background frame to compliment my tortoise, leaving the central panel clear with nothing other than my one word sentiment to leave all the focus on my sweet upside-down tortoise that I coloured with a combination of Stampin' Write Markers and Blends in the appropriate colours:

I love the fun expression on this tortoise's face, and it pairs perfectly with the remainder of the sentiment that I stamped on the inside of my card:

I made this card for a dear friend of mine who was out walking her sweet terrier dog when she was literally bowled over by an over-enthusiastic labrador that resulted in her falling to the ground to the sound of a loud 'crack' and a broken leg. Following surgery she is now confined to a wheelchair for at least the next 6 weeks, so this card seemed quite fitting and will hopefully raise a smile through the frustration she is most certainly feeling  at the moment.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

As a reminder, for our colour challenges, you must use all of the stated challenge colours. You may also use neutral colours; however, the challenge colours should be the most noticeable ones featured on your card. We use Stampin' Up! color names for reference, but you are welcome to use any other companies' products as long as you match the challenge colours as closely as possible.

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Socially Distanced Giraffes For #ShareSunshine

by Joanne James19. May 2020 09:00

Today I'm sharing a card for this week's challenge over at Just Add Ink where they are having a challenge inspired by our current circumstances of lockdown and social restrictions and are encouraging us to send a card to say 'hi' and remind someone we are thinking of them:

I decided to pair one of the sentiments from my #ShareSunshine digital download with a couple of giraffes with a knotty problem to create my fun card - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

A Knotty Problem - My cute giraffes on today's card come from the 'Back on Your Feet' stamp set. A great card for get well soon messages, the images also work well paired with the #ShareSunshine download.

Mirror, Mirror - If you have the 'Back On Your Feet' stamp set or have seen it in the catalogue, you may well be reading this and saying to yourself 'but there's only one giraffe in this set, not two?' And you'd be right of course. To create my socially distanced giraffes, I used my Stamparatus and a silicone mat to enable me to 'mirror' my second giraffe. I have been running a series of free short online demonstrations each week with my online class ladies in between our paid classes and last week we spent our sessions revisiting tools, tips and tricks that you could achieve with your Stamparatus and stamping mirror images was one of the things we covered.

A Punched Heart - My tiny punched heart is courtesy of my Dog Builder Punch - super useful! and lastly a quick peek inside my card to see how my sentiment finishes up:

spThat's all from me today; I am off to invigilate master James' second Common Entrance exam this week - Religion, Philosophy and Ethics - and then will be hopping online with my class ladies slightly later as a result. We are looking at 'Embossing with Dies' this morning! Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Knot Good Giraffe Get Well Soon Card for AYSI210

by Joanne James27. September 2019 13:00

I've been a busy bee this week with not much opportunity for blogging, but never fear! Today I'm sharing my design team card for our new challenge over at As you See It where it's time for a recipe challenge:

I went around the houses on this one for a while before I managed to come up with an idea that incorporated each of the elements, however I got there eventually with the help of the troubled giraffe from the 'Back On Your Feet' set - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Back On Your Feet - I decided to feature the knotty giraffe from the 'Back On Your Feet' set on my card today. Perfect for a get well card, or even someone who's having a rough time of it, this comical giraffe and punny sentiment is sure to raise a smile. A simple stamp and colour with my Stampin' Blends and he was complete. The one thing that I was struggling to incorporate on this week's card was a diecut then I had a lightbulb moment (yes, sometimes it does happen!!) I used one of the dies from the Animal Friends Thinlits to create a giraffe-patterned background to tie in with my tag. Sorted!

A Delightful Tag - I used the new Delightful Tag Topper Punch to create the tag that features my giraffe today. My trusty Scalloped Tag Topper Punch is one of my most-used punches - great for gift wrapping, customer bag tags and cards alike. Don't worry, this punch hasn't been replaced - I just added to it with another, slightly more fancy-topped one. If you don't have a tag punch, you should really consider investing in one - they will make creating your Christmas tags super quick and easy.

And The Rest Makes Three - Some stamped and punched leaves, Crumb Cake Nature's Twine and my punny sentiment (one the inside of my card it says "Hope things get better soon.") cropped with a rectangle stitched shape finish off this week's recipe board - and my card!

I do love giraffes and learned lots about them when I visited South Africa on safari many years ago. Did you know you can tell whether they are a girl or a boy by the amount of hair on the end of their horns? Females usually still have hair, whereas males' horns are usually bare from wrestling with each other for the affections of said females. I wonder if this is also the reason for premature balding in males?!

On that quizzical note I look forward to seeing what you make with this week's recipe challenge when I visit your blogs. Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Back On Your Feet Get Well Wishes

by Joanne James15. July 2019 18:30

I'm back with a second quick card to share with you today! I needed a quick card and used this week's sketch over at CAS Colours and Sketches and am just squeezing in before the deadline:

An old university friend of mine landed awkwardly when running at the weekend and broke his ankle, so I wanted to make a quick card to send him some get well wishes and the new 'Back On your Feet' stamp set had just the right stamp  - take a look:

Isn't that sloth with his bandaged paw just the cutest?! I stamped him on a stitched oval and coloured him with my Stampin' Blends and added a simple 'ouch!' to the front of my card, completing the message inside with 'Hope you're back on your feet again soon' which in the circumstances seemed more than appropriate! I picked up the colour from the branch on my stamped image and used the leaf ribbon for the three vertical stripes of the sketch. I haven't used this before but it goes perfectly with this image.
