Today's card is a congratulations card that I made for someone I know who recently achieved a long-awaited promotion and I wanted to make her a quick card to celebrate her success. This week's sketch layout over at Fab Friday was perfect for what I had in mind:

I decided to use one of the fun images in the Giggle Greetings set and do a little colouring with my now-discontinued Blendabilities on the main image - here is my card:

I used the colours of the Retro Fresh washi tape for my card colour scheme, with a base of So Saffron and mats in Tangerine Tango and Baked Brown Sugar. I stamped my fun dog image on Very Vanilla in Memento Black and coloured him with my skin-tone Blendabilties (although in retrospect I think he might have looked better watercoloured in Baked Brown Sugar, but there we are!) I added a piece of washi tape on Very Vanilla with a gold button and linen thread as my embellishment and a banner flag from the retired Retro Fresh paper too.

A fun card to wish someone well with their new career path - I love the images in these sets and are so pleased that they aren't leaving the catalogue this year. Today its Monday and I have a card for this week's Freshly Made Sketches challenge; I am also linking up with the Friday Mashup, where the challenge is to create a baby card, a card in brown aqua and tangerine - or as in my case, a mashup of both:

I decided that the 'any shape' allowed in the sketch was a great opportunity for me to use probably the only stamp that has never been inked up in my 'Something for Baby' stamp set - the pram. Here is my card:

I chose to use some retired 'Retro Fresh' DSP for my card, as it featured the mashup colours. Once I'd decided on my layers, this card came together surprisingly quickly, even leaving time to stamp the inside and decorate the envelope. I've not used this pram stamp previously as it's quite large - this type of sketch layout is just perfect for it though. I finished my pram wheels with a couple of candy dots for added interest and done!

Today I'm sharing my entry for this week's Pals Paper Arts challenge. I was lucky enough to be a PPA Top Pick with my monochrome baby card last week on their 200th anniversary post (you can see that card here) and this week Nicole has a great sketch to follow:

For my card this week I decided to use one of the Retro Fresh Designer Journaling Tags. I've used these on cards before and really like how you can make a feature of them for a quick card. So here's today's take on the sketch:

I went for a really clean look for this card and I think this really allows the tag and sentiment to be the star of the show. I used one of the Retro Fresh DSP sheets to co-ordinate in with the colour scheme, which I allowed the tag to dictate. This card actually uses very few products, has no stamping and would be really quick to recreate. If you want some great ready-made sentiments, you should definitely check out the Retro Fresh tags - at just £4.50 for a pack of 32 they are great value for money - and you can use them for journaling too!

Good morning everyone! Today's blog post could have been titled so many things: 'Yay it's Valentine's Day!', 'Yay it's Friday!', 'Yay it's stopped raining!' - I could go on, but instead I went with 'Yay for Retro Fresh!' as the Retro Fresh DSP is definitely the star of this card. I have used the sketch layout over at Create with Connie and Mary for week 3 of the Spring 2014 Challenge for my card (I love a good sketch challenge!).

I decided to go with a congratulations card, as I seem to be using a lot of these for different things lately and inspired by the DT samples this week I went against my natural instinct and challenged myself to see just how many different designs of Retro Fresh DSP I could use on one card without overwhelming the focal point. Here's my card - can you spot them all? 

I used four in total, which might not sound like much, but for me that's unusual. Funny thing is, like all of Stampin' Up!'s designer series papers, the Retro Fresh patterns all work really well together, so it works. I decided to keep my focal point sentiment bold and clean, then used striped paper for my banners, broken up with a flag of 'homemade' DSP using Tangerine Tango cardstock randomly stamped with the star from the Banner Blast stamp set. I cut the banners using the new Banners Framelits dies - these are great for perfect banners in a jiffy. I used a thin strip of the arrow paper to draw the eye to the focal sentiment and edged this with some stretch ruffle trim to echo the scalloped circle, then lastly used a light pattern for my base layer. I considered leaving it plain, either just above the horizontal strip or both above and below it, but it was just too bland, so I added yet another pattern to the mix.

So there you have it - yay for Retro Fresh! Sometimes it pays to be a bit more adventurous with your patterned papers and not be afraid of using more than one at a time. Don't forget to hop on over to Create with Connie and Mary to see what everyone else has done with this sketch.

Today's post has been somewhat hijacked! I know I told you yesterday that this was an ordinary weekend and whilst that still holds true, something special happened today that I want to share with you. So, Rebecca went for her swim squad training this morning as usual but, unbeknown to me, she was given the option post warm-up to attempt her final distance badge - 1 mile (1.6km). Her previous distance badge achieved was for 1000m some 18 months ago, so I was confident she could do it, but 1 mile - it's still a long way, right? Well, she achieved it and was clearly so pleased with herself she phoned me from the car to tell me. As I turned to share with Ben the good, news, he promptly announced "Right Mum, let's go and make a card quickly before she gets home!" So with about 15 minutes to go, we set to work and this is what we came up with:

I followed this week's sketch layout at Freshly Made Sketches for my card and made a larger than usual 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" square card to accommodate my journaling tag. I rounded the corners of all my layers using my Envelope Punch Board (love that you can do this!) to echo the shape of the squares on the tag and co-ordinating Retro Fresh DSP. Ben was keen to incorporate swimming into the card (a challenge at short notice!) so we compromised at embossing the Coastal Cabana band with the Chevron Embossing Folder to give the illusion of waves and movement (in an abstract kind of way!) Lastly, I stamped and fussy cut a star and adhered to the corner of the tag with a dimensional because, well, Rebecca is my star! Ben insisted on finishing off by writing a message of congratulations inside in his best joined-up handwriting and we were just finishing up as Rebecca came through the front door.

She loved her card, which seems perfect recognition for such an achievement; I'm not sure I could swim a mile now, let alone when I was 8 years old!

Good evening blog readers! Today I'm sharing another card that I made to link up to the colour challenge this week over at Create with Connie and Mary. Why, you ask? Well, this is this week's colour challenge:

Now I already linked up this card that I had made for the Spring Sketch Challenge over at CCMC, because it just so happened to be in the right colours. Since that was more by accident than design, I decided to challenge myself to have another go at creating something specifically using these colours. To make it doubly challenging, I decided to try and not use any of the Retro Fresh DSP on my card - not because I don't love it, but because I wanted to create a card that looked different to the last one. So, here's the card I came up with:

This card is very 'CAS' for me; I love 'clean and layered', but find 'clean and simple' more of a challenge (I think the large amount of 'white space' scares me!) I used one of the Retro Fresh Journalling Tags as the focal point for my card; as I'm not a big scrapbooker, I don't generally invest in journaling tags, but having seen some made into great cards on other people's blogs last season, I decided I would invest in a set of the new tags expressly to see if I could use them in card making. I have to say, I really like some of the cute tags and sayings included in the Retro Fresh tag kit and they are great for creating a quick focal point on a card. There are a few different sizes included and I think they're a bargain too, so if you've never bought a pack you might like to try them - like me, you might be pleasantly surprised! I finished this card before I realised I hadn't actually inked up a stamp either - this really is a card of so many 'firsts'!

I'm saving this card for when my son earns his next times tables badge at school; this will be a great 'hi 5' moment and this card will be the perfect way to celebrate.

Another early post from me today - I must be organised, or at least more organised than usual! Today's card uses the sketch over at Create with Connie and Mary for the 2014 Spring Collection Challenge. Here is the sketch:

Having enjoyed the 'reveal' aspect of the hidden message tag card I made for the Paper Players yesterday, I thought I would do something similar with this card - the cut-away and the scalloped edge layer seemed to be calling for a pull-out. So here is my card:

This is the first time I've used the new Retro Fresh Designer Series paper and I love it - the colours are, well retro and fresh!! I made the pattern a feature of my card and embellished with another of the Just Sayin' word bubbles, this time layered and mounted on a base cut with the co-ordinating Word Bubbles framelits - don't you just love a matching framelit?! (and you save 15% if you buy them together) I also created a joining piece from the new Retro Fresh washi tape which I stuck on some Very Vanilla cardstock (I love how the little arrows draw your eye to the speech bubble).

I chose to make a pocket from the top layer so that the scalloped edge section could be pulled out to reveal another of the 'See Ya Later' Sale-A-Bration stamps, that I coloured with my Tangerine Tango, Coastal Cabana and Baked Brown Sugar Stampin' Write markers:

I made this card for a friend of mine who is celebrating a 'significant birthday' this week; I'll spare her modesty by not revealing her age, but let's just say the sentiment on this card just seemed very appropriate! I'm also going to link this card up with Create With Connie and Mary's colour challenge this week, which I didn't see until after I made my card but is featuring the colour palette that I've used this week:

I am loving these colours - might have to try and do another card or two now I've opened that new paper pack!

• Tangerine Tango Card Base: 14.9cm x 18.5cm (scored at 8cm)
• Retro Fresh DSP: 10cm x 8cm
• Extra Tangerine Tango Bottom Front Section: 4.9cm x 8cm
• Attach the DSP to the bottom orange front section using the Retro Fresh washi tape
• Attach this panel front to the front card base on 3 sides only with Tombo (the section measuring 8cm x 14.9cm as opposed to the larger section measuring 10.5cm x 14.9cm) - this creates the pocket
• Very Vanilla Insert: 12.5cm x 8cm, edged with the Large Scallop Edgelit
• Adhere a strip of Coastal Cabana cardstock measuring 3cm x 14.9cm to the inside edge of the back panel of the card base
