by Joanne James17. March 2015 12:47

This is my second post for today - scroll down or click here for my earlier creative post featuring today's card. Blendabilites may now be discontinued, but today Stampin' Up! has announced a number of additional catalogue products that you can earn for free with each £45 spend until the end of March while supplies last. Here are the details of each of the products that will form part of the offer:

Don't forget if you're ordering online to include the hostess code for March - 4AHTZQVW - and to ensure that your contact settings on the page tab headed up 'My Demonstrator' are set to 'YES', so that I can keep you informed on the progress of your order and send you a little thank you in the post.

That's all from me today; back tomorrow with a new set of Wednesday Weekly Deals and another project. Until then, happy shopping!

White With a Hint of Gold - Gratefulness Card

by Joanne James24. June 2014 13:00

This week the peeps over at CAS(E) This Sketch and Fusion have joined forces on their challenge blogs with a great sketch and inspiration photo:

I took the inspiration for my card from both the photo and the sketch and came up with the following card:

For a largely white card, there's a lot going on here; all-white cards are also incredibly difficult to photograph well, so I hope you can see some of the more subtle elements of design. Firstly, I used a Whisper White card base and ran this through my Big Shot with the Wildflower Meadow Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to give a nice relief pattern that I thought worked well with the butterfly. I created a layered banner using my Banner Framelits, cutting one in Whisper White and another slightly longer one in gold foil to extend beyond the length of it. On the uppermost white banner, I stamped my sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder - this sentiment is a 'sneak peek' from a new set called 'Something to Say', out next week (not long now!).

I then did something I've never done before: I glittered a butterfly! Now whilst my 9 year old daughter loves anything with glitter, I'm generally not a fan of the stuff. I love Stampin' Up!'s glimmer paper as this is a great no-shed alternative, and I've had 2 pots of glitter sitting in my drawer since before Christmas and until now unopened for fear of the ensuing mess that would be created! As my card came together, I knew that glitter was going to be the only way to go to get the look I was after and create the contrast in texture of all the gold elements. So, I was brave - out came the heat and stick powder and gold glitter, and this sparkly vellum butterfly is the result. And I love it - even though I think I will be brushing gold glitter out of my butterfly punch for some time to come. Lastly, I substituted the stitching in the sketch layout for two rows of sequins to add one last gold element to my card.

I made this card with my Mother-In-Law in mind; she is always there to help me out of a fix and last week was no exception: Rebecca came home from school the week before last with instruction to make a weasel costume for the forthcoming production of 'Wind In the Willows' - to be held this week! Not only did she need a weasel costume, this weasel required a brightly coloured waistcoat and cravat to look the part. Fortunately for me MIL came to the rescue and a few days later had managed to tailor the most amazing waistcoat and cravat I've ever seen just from bits and bobs in her sewing box. Rebecca is destined to be the best dressed weasel around at her production on Thursday (I'll post a picture of her in costume later in the week!); as for me - my Mother-In-Law's goodness does indeed make me very grateful, so Kathy this one is for you!

Back tomorrow with another project and this week's Wednesday Deals; until then, happy stampin'!

Get Well Soon for The Paper Players PP178

by Joanne James15. January 2014 20:43

A quick post from me today! With all the coughs and colds that are ever-present in our house at the moment, I thought I would take the opportunity today to create a get well soon card. Here is my card:

I used my Stampin' Write Markers to ink up the flowers on my 'Wildflower Meadow' stamp, leaving out the dots and replacing the bird with the sentiment. I then simply embossed the coloured image and mounted using the Coastal Cabana blue as my accent colour. I took the colours from this week's challenge over at 'The Paper Players' as the inspiration for my card:

I actually found it tricky to work with four different colours and did break the 'blue and green should never be seen without a colour in between' rule with this one, but I like it!

Back tomorrow with a one layer card: until then, happy stampin'!

Introducing 2013-15 'In Colours' and A Sneak Peek!

by Joanne James26. June 2013 22:00

My first day free of domestic chores this week and I was fully intending to begin madly creating with my new pre-order goodies that have been sitting in my craft room for over a week calling 'play with me' but alas, it was not to be - instead I've spent most of the day caring for my poorly boy who has (yet another!) tummy bug for the second time in as many months! He was feeling brighter this afternoon, so after an hour or so of sitting in the garden playing 'catch', I managed to get an hour or so to create a quick card set showcasing the new 2013-15 'In Colours'. For the uninitiated, 'In Colours' are introduced every year and remain current for 2 years before retiring. They compliment the standard colour families and I think I'm in love with this year's colours, which are quite different to the 2012-14 set. Without further ado, let me introduce to you:

Firstly, Crisp Cantaloupe - a lovely peachy, pink shade:

Secondly, Pistachio Pudding - a pale green with a lemony hue:

Thirdly, Baked Brown Sugar - a lovely shade of cinnamon brown:

Fourthly, Strawberry Slush, a rich pink with red undertones:

And last but not least, Coastal Cabana - a lovely shade of watery blue-green:

What do you think? These colours are so fresh I am already brimming with ideas and I can't wait to start using them in earnest. I kept these cards simple so that the colours take centre stage, with only a mat in the same colour and a few pearls. The eagle-eyed SU devotees amongst you might be wondering what the stamp is that I've used; this is a sneak-peek of a new stamp called 'Wildflower Meadow', which also has a matching embossing folder. You can see it in more detail on this close up shot:

Only another six days to go until you can own this stamp and matching embossing folder too; it's one of a number of great bundles on offer in the new Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue, due to be released next Tuesday 2nd July. If you would like a copy of the new catalogue, they are available for £4.95 each including P&P; contact me to order yours today! Start writing your wish lists stampers - there are lots more great new items that I'm looking forward to sharing in the coming weeks and months.

One last picture of the whole in-colour card set, then I'm done for today; hopefully back tomorrow with another project, all being well. Until then, happy stampin'!
