You're Too Kind Card for Colour Q

by Joanne James22. August 2014 08:00

Yay - it's Friday and a two-post day! If you haven't seen my earlier post about this week's enhanced sign up offer, please scroll back or click here for more information. Valid for one week only, it's worth checking out!

So for today's creative post, I was inspired by the beautiful colours and inspiration photo over at Colour Q this week:

So here's the thing - I love the colour purple. If you asked me my favourite colour, I wouldn't say purple (I'd say blue or yellow, in case you were wondering!) however as one of my downlines pointed out to me once, I must like purple - lots of my clothes are shades of purple and I do find myself drawn to it as a colour. All that said, it's not a colour I often use in my cardmaking either, so when I saw this challenge, I thought I should at least remedy that in part - here's my entry to this week's challenge:

I used the Old Olive for the flower stems, then focused my card around the other three colours. I created a mask and sponged a panel blending the remaining three colours, then stamped the flower stems over the top, stamping off the Wisteria Wonder flowerhead once first to give a paler flower and then stamping the second layer in Rich Razzleberry, using my stamp-a-ma-jig to ensure perfect placement. Lastly, I added a sentiment and a bow using some retired stitched grosgrain ribbon (you could substitute the new cotton ribbon in the same colour) and a few rhinestones to finish. The result? I love it - maybe I should make purple cards more often!

That's me done for today - it's a Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK, the last one before the kiddies go back to school in just over a week's time, so we have some family activities planned (more on that next week).

Enjoy your weekend; back tomorrow with another project, until then, happy stampin'!

Sending Good Thoughts Your Way!

by Joanne James20. May 2014 21:20

Good evening blog readers! Well, I really feel like I'm in catch-up mode this week, but I guess I shouldn't be too hard on myself - it is only Tuesday after all! Today I'm sharing a card I made for this week's sketch challenge over at Create with Connie and Mary. I kept the flower as per the sketch so I will also be linking up with The Paper Players, where this week's challenge from Ann is a clean and simple floral card and Less is More where the challenge theme is flowers:

Having played around with various floral sets, eventually I decided to dust off my 'Too Kind' set, as I haven't used it in a while and set about creating my card - here it is:

I chose an unconventional floral colour scheme, using blues and greys, but I think it works! I love the flowers in this stamp set - the two-step stamping really adds an extra dimension, which is perfect when you're trying to create a clean and simple card. A stamp-a-ma-jig makes light work of aligning the images though - this little tool is so useful! I decided to create a banner from the banner shape in the sketch and use it to highlight my sentiment which I heat embossed in pewter embossing powder, finished with a pewter button threaded with retired Pool Party baker's twine - here's a close-up:

I also added Dazzling Diamonds to my flower petals to give a little sparkle and shimmer. A really clean and simple floral card; not where I started out at all, but I really like the end result.

Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

You Did It Congratulations Card

by Joanne James3. October 2013 21:36

Today I'm sharing a card that I made for a friend of mine who had a very special day today. She is beginning a new chapter in her life and today marked a key milestone - the opening of her new beauty salon. I wanted to make her a card to wish her luck and encourage her look forward and not back. This is the card I made for her:

It's a simple card using the two-stepped stamping of the Too Kind stamp set in Crisp Cantaloupe and Calypso Coral, on a white background that I cut out with a Circle Framelit and part-pierced to add a little interest and draw the eye to the flagged sentiment. The flag is finished with one of the in-colour embellishments. I used the week 139 #10 sketch at Less is More as my inspiration for this card:

As for me, I hand-delivered this card to the recipient today as I was booked in to have a manicure at the same time - too good an opportunity to pass up I think! If you're local to Northampton, I would recommend you check out Pamper Me Beauty - you can link to their Facebook page here and find out more about the services on offer. My nails look lovely; I might have to shoot a video tutorial for you so that I can show them off - any preferences on what you would like to see?

Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!
