This Little Piggy ... Is So Cute!

by Joanne James28. May 2017 10:00

It's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! The awesomely talented Laurie is the hostess this week and she has a sketch for us to work with:

I love a good sketch and this one was perfect for me to open a new stamp set that I won at Onstage in April but hadn't inked up yet - take a look:

Isn't that little piggy cute?! Here's the low-down on today's card:

This Little Piggy - This fun set of animated pigs in a variety of poses is set to be hugely popular if the 'oohs' and 'aahs' that accompanied Charlotte Harding's demonstration at Onstage are anything to go by. Who doesn't love a pig or know someone who does? The excitement in the room when this set was offered up as a prize patrol was palpable, but that was nothing compared to how I reacted when I won it - I think it's fair to say I gave a piggy squeal of delight! I've used the 'serious' pig on my card today, that can be paired with one of two sentiments. I stamped the image and sentiment separately on my card and completed the sentence inside my card, complete with kisses:

Isn't that sweet? A perfectly fun anniversary card for this week's challenge over at As You See It too - this card is perfect for my hubby!

Lots Of Layers - I took the opportunity to add some layers to my focal image with a mix of stitched shapes and layered squares. On this card I punched my sentiment out with the classic label punch, rather than stamp it directly onto the patterned paper layer as I did on the card below.

Paper Pick 'n' Mix - I'm taking the opportunity to use up my retiring papers so this card features some polka dots from the Brights stack as well as some Pop of Pink DSP for the horizontal band. I also created a second card using the Playful Palette DSP stack papers with an alternative sentiment pairing - take a look:

And here's the inside:

Beautiful You And A Pop Of Pink

by Joanne James15. January 2017 09:00

It's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the talented Sandy to host this week and she has a fun colour challenge for us to work with:

I haven't been getting as much time to get in my office and craft as much as I'd like lately, so decided that today I was going to make a card using a set that was at the top of my wish list as soon as I set eyes on the Spring-Summer catalogue, along with the Fusion sketch for my layout - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Beautiful You - I loved this set the moment I saw it! Sketched outlines of the female form and some great sentiments in fonts that combine script and print; now who wouldn't want to receive a card with the sentiment 'Happy birthday, Gorgeous'? That's guaranteed to raise a smile. Here I stamped the elegant lady in the hat in Archival Black in watercolour paper and coloured her in with Melon Mambo ink and my aquapainter. This set has so many creative possibilities, I'm really looking forward to using it in lots of other ways too.

A Pop of Pink - Having chosen pink as my 'colour', I spent some time experimenting with different layouts and pattern combinations and decided on a plain Melon Mambo central panel with a piece of Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper beneath it.

Stitched Framelits are back! - I chose to cut out my elegant lady with my Layered Oval Framelits and frame it with a simple stitched oval in mat black. Why am I teasing you with something you can't get hold of, I hear you cry? Well, fear not - as of tomorrow, 16th January, Stitched Framelits are back in stock and available to order - woohoo! These are the perfect way to add the finishing touch to a border or frame. Order yours tomorrow!

I'm also linking my card up with the challenge over at Stamp, Ink Paper where this week the challenge is also black, white and one colour; what are the odds?!

I look forward to seeing what you create with this week's colour palette. Enjoy the rest of your weekend as it will be over all too quickly; we are off to watch the National League basketball finals today - the tickets were one of Ben's Christmas presents. I'll be back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

Sending Hope During Breast Cancer Awareness Month

by Joanne James10. October 2016 09:00

Another Monday, another week my lovely readers! Today I have a card that ties in with CASology's current cue card and uses this week's CAS(E) This Sketch layout:

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month; most of us know someone whose life has been affected by this terrible disease so today's card was designed to send a little love and support to someone whose life has been touched in this way. Here's my card:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

A Pop of Pink - I used the Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Paper for the inset panel on my card today and its colours inspired my 'monochrome with a pop of pink' colour scheme.

A Card That's All Heart - There are lots of lovely patterns in the Pop of Pink paper set, but for a card that's all about sending love and hope I had to go with the itty bitty heart pattern. I used my Sunshine Wishes heart thinlit for the scribbly heart that bridges the inset panel in bright Melon Mambo pink for a single image to compliment my sentiment.

Words of Support - My sentiment is a combination of the diecut 'hope' which is also from the Sunshine Wishes thinlits die set and the co-ordinating Sunshine Sayings stamp set (available as a bundle with 10% off when purchased together), stamped onto my extra-thick Whisper White card base in Archival Black ink.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

I have the first of this month's technique classes this morning - this one featuring the Star of Light set. Followed by a double school run and an evening at the swimming pool as Rebecca finishes her Competitive Starts qualification (shallow racing dives to the uninititated!) I'll share some of my class cards later in the week. Meanwhile, enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project.

Until then, happy stampin'!
