Sea Street Nautical Colour Block Card

by Joanne James17. May 2016 07:30

A quick post from me today with a great clean and simple card for the man in your life! My card today was inspired by the inspiration photo over at Fusion and the sketch over at CAS Colours and Sketches:

I love the nautical-themed inspiration photo and knew just the thing to make it work with the sketch - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Blocks of Primary Colour - To keep a 'clean and simple' feel to my card, I restricted myself to a red, white and blue colour palette. These three colours also reinforce the nautical feel of my card. I popped these coloured pieces up on dimensionals to emphasise the diagonal channel. Here's my colour palette if you'd like to save it:

A Diagonal Slant - The diagonals on the sketch were perfect to showcase two rows of nautical flags from the 'Sea Street' stamp set that I still had out n my desk after making yesterday's project.

A Big, Bold Happy Birthday - I finished my card with a big 'Happy Birthday' from the retiring hostess set 'Happy Birthday Everyone'. Such a great sentiment set - I'll be sorry to see this one go!

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

That's all from me today; I have another busy day planned with a team meeting and networking event on the cards. back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Botanical Builders Happy Birthday

by Joanne James2. May 2016 21:27

I hope you've all had a lovely day and for those of you like me in the UK that you've enjoyed the Bank Holiday. I managed to squeeze in a little gardening before the rain set in this afternoon, at which point I came inside to craft. I made this card for a couple of challenges:

I loved the colour palette and inspiration over at Color Throwdown this week so couldn't resist squeezing in an entry, and I used the new sketch over at Mojo Monday for my layout. Here's my card:

My card was inspired by the Color Throwdown inspiration photo and those amazing cakes and florals - here's the low-down on how I made it:

Stylish Stripes - I used Night of Navy for my card base and adhered a full panel of Night of Navy that I embossed with the Stylish Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing folder to the card front, to echo the diagonal swirls of the cake icing on the photo. This is one of my most used embossing folders and I shall be sad to see it retire at the end of this month; if you haven't got one, snap it up now before it's too late.

Happy Birthday Everyone - The sentiment on my card is from the exclusive hostess set 'Happy Birthday Everyone'. I just love this font and the accompanying finishing sentiments that go with it. I finished the inside of my card with 'to a good friend' as this is where my card is headed as one of mine has a birthday this week.

Botanical Builder Flowers - I never tire of my Botanical Builder framelits and these white and yellow flowers really pop against the navy base of my card. I also added a thin border of Daffodil Delight, cut using my retired large scallop edgelit die.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

A little extra for you today too: I bought my friend a little something to go with her card and wrapped that in a box made using some Regals designer series paper and made with my Box Buster tool and trusty Envelope Punch Board. Here's a picture:

Isn't that pretty? So nice when you can co-ordinate your card and gift and Stampin' Up! certainly does make that easy for us!

That's all from me today; back tomorrow with another project. until then, happy stampin'!

Timeless Elegance Shadow Box Frame Birthday Card

by Joanne James22. January 2016 08:00

It's Friday - who doesn't love a Friday?! Today I have a rather special birthday card to share that is rather appropriate for this week's Can You Case It? Challenge where they too are celebrating their third birthday anniversary:

CYCI#103 a   CYCI#103 b

We have a choice of 'black, white and elegant' or 'black, white and fun': my project today is definitely the former - a lovely 6" shadow box frame birthday card featuring the Timeless Elegance Designer Series Paper. My papers are black and vanilla rather than black and white, but I'm hoping the CYCI team will allow this! Here's the card:

To make the card itself, I followed this tutorial by the talented Amanda Bates. For the central panel, I used one of the patterned papers and added just a hint of sponged colour in Blushing Bride and I heat embossed my greeting in gold over the top. I then used a co-ordinating pattern for my frame decoration. Isn't that just lovely? I made this card for my mother-in-law who loves a black and white colour combination; I also made a co-ordinating gift bag and tag for her present using my Gift Bag Punch Board and a box to present my card in:

Whilst I'm not a massive fan of black and white as a colour combination, I do love the patterns in these papers and I think the colour combination can indeed look very elegant. More importantly, this card was made more with the recipient in mind rather than the creator and, since she loved it, I guess that's all that counts!

That's all from me today; I'll be back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!
