Apologies for the lack of blog posts this week but the weather has taken a turn for the better here in the UK so I have taken the opportunity to spend some time giving my garden some much-needed TLC and enjoying spending time outdoors with the youngest of my James Juniors who is still on Easter break until early next week. Today it's Sunday though and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the wonderful Jaydee to host this week and she has my favourite, a sketch challenge, for you to work with:

So many ways I could have gone with this one! In the end I decided that having spent some time this week sorting through the old to make way for the new, it would be a great opportunity to share some retiring favourites with you  - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

A Birthday Marquee Message - I have had a lot of fun with this stamp set: great for invitations, birthdays and more general celebrations, Marquee messages works for clean and simple and more detailed and layered cards. Here I've heat-embossed the outlines in silver and paper-pieced the various elements together, stamping the central wording with my Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Blends. To finish I added a whole bunch of rhinestones to the arrow - it made a fair dent in a new packet, but it was so worth it for the finished effect - after all, who doesn't want their birthday message up in lights?! 

Pick A Neutral Pattern - I decided to use something with a little pattern for my background, but that wouldn't detract from my focal point sign and this black and white pattern from the Pick A Pattern designer series paper collection was the perfect choice. 

Colour Movers and Shakers - My card also features two colours that are about to retire and one that is about to move colour families as a result of the Colour Revamp. I will miss Island Indigo more than Tangerine Tango for sure, but am very exciting by the new colours that will be joining our new families in their place. My third colour, Real Red, is thankfully sticking around, but moving from Brights to Regals as part of the reshuffle. Here are today's colours should you wish to save this colour combo, but remember - you only have until May 7th to guarantee supplies of the retiring colours, so be sure to stock up before they're gone:

It's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! I am the hostess this week and I have a timely theme for you to work with:

We are almost at the end of the academic year here in the UK and so it's the perfect time for teacher thank you cards. It's also the start of exam results season: everything from Common Entrance Exams, to the 11 Plus, graduate degrees and next month GCSE and A Level results. Since our challenge is an international one and all countries have these things happening at different times, I thought I would broaden this week's theme to encapsulate all of these things. So whether it's a thank you for your favourite teacher or a message of congratulations, we would love to see them all in the gallery this week.

I've made my teacher thank yous already, however I know a number of children that sat GCSE exams this year and so will be requiring a few more congratulations cards than usual. I used today's challenge as an opportunity to get started! This week's sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches inspired my layout  - I turned it through 90 degrees - and created a few cards using the same design; take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Text Ya Later - This set was one of the first on my wish list; perfect for those tricky teenager cards, this on-trend stamp set, with it's text-speak and humorous emoticons works for children and adults alike. How many of us are in family message groups that span generations and often result in some hilarious texting faux-pas? There is so much fun to be had with these stamps, with the ability to tailor the messages to a number of different occasions. There are also some great background stamps that enable you to infill the speech bubbles with colour with ease.

Stars In Their Eyes - For the strip detail, I cut a row of stars out of coloured cardstock using one of the thinlits in the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits set, to add to the celebratory feel.

A Neat Little Trick - If you look really closely at my card, you will see that the smiley face emoticon has been punched out and added to my coloured speech bubbles. Want to know how I did it? I discovered that the single berry on the Holly Berry Builder Punch i just the right size to punch out these emoticons - handy, right?

I've a quick post today to share a card I made for a friend of mine using another of the Pick A Pattern papers - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

The Glamper Greetings cute caravan set was an annual catalogue carryover from the Autumn-Winter seasonal catalogue. I'm glad it made the cut as I hadn't inked mine up yet - and it pairs beautifully with the new Pick A Pattern designers series paper. I added a little sunshine and grass to my caravan scene, but this just scratches the surface of what can be done with this set - there are so many sweet little images: bunting, pies, flamingoes, bats and balloons with which to decorate your little caravan and a host of sentiments to boot - glamper greetings indeed!

As I went to write my post today I had an 'oops' moment; I had originally made this card with the sketch over at As You See It in mind - then realised I had stuck everything down minus the banner! Too late to rectify and since it's integral to the sketch I'm not going to link up but I'm sharing with you anyway - here's the link to the AYSI sketch so that you can see what I mean. On the upside, it means you get to see more of the patterned paper - yay!

Happy Monday everyone - a fresh start to a new week! Today I'm sharing a card for this week's challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches:

I kept my card simple with a showcase of some new designer series paper - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Pick A Floral Pattern - There are some great patterns in the Pick A Pattern designer series paper pack - an eclectic mix of everything from dinosaurs to mushrooms, cameras to this lovely floral pattern. The thing I love most about this pattern is that the white flowers, with the accents of green and yellow, really balance the brightness of the Flirty Flamingo, which I sometimes find a little intense. Framing in white and Emerald Envy green also helps to tone down the pink too.

Patterns and Pieces - I used the simple 'hello there' sentiment from the co-ordinating stamp set, Patterns and Pieces, for the centre of my floral accent, although I cropped it to a regular circle with my 1 3/8" circle punch rather than the slightly more fluid circle of the stamp itself.

May Flower - I decided that instead of a standard layered circle for my accent, i wanted to create something more in keeping with the flower pattern of the designer series paper. A quick sort through my framelits decided me on one of the framelits in the May Flowers set: whilst not an even-petalled flower, I think it still works to create a flower to ground my sentiment and tie in with my overall clean design. Today I'm sharing a card for this week's challenge over at CAS(E) This Sketch:

This sketch was perfect for an idea I've had in my head for a while using a stamp set from the annual catalogue - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Layering Love - A new catalogue often means much less current stock in the stamp room, as old makes way for new and new consists of some select pre-order items. This has its advantages though - it encourages a look through those stamp sets that are carrying over from one annual catalogue to the next with fresh eyes - and in some instances, as with today's card, results in a set that has been languishing to be inked up for the first time (yay!) I bought the set some time ago because I love the big, bold feature sentiments it contains. The one I've used on today's card was the clincher though - not only is this a sweet sentiment for a new baby card, but is perfect for memory keeping and scrapbook pages or even a framed piece of wall art. I just had to have it - shame it's taken me so long to ink it up! The sentiment stamps are also designed to fit perfectly inside the various layering shapes framelits - bonus!

Sneak Peeks Times Two - I've mixed the old with the new on my card today too: I used the heart from a new set called 'Wood Words' to create a tone-on-tone border along the bottom part of my card using my trusty stamp-a-ma-jig to get my hearts neatly lined up and for my embellishment I added a sweet bunny that I fussy cut from the new Pick-A-Pattern Designer Series Paper. Full of eclectic hand-drawn images and quirky animals - I love this paper!

A Modern Colour Combo - I was tempted to go pink all the way with my card today, but decided to introduce black to tie in with my fussy-cut outlined bunny and I think it makes for a fresh and modern colour combination and tempers the brightness of Flirty Flamingo - feel free to save it if you would like to try it out on your projects:

Happy Monday everyone! Lots to achieve this week so I'm trying to be organised with this week's blog posts. Today I'm just in time to share a card for this week's challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches:

So many possibilities here for this sketch and that object/shape! I eventually decided on a 'something old, something new' for a birthday card - take a look:

 Here's the low-down on today's card:

I thought the easel from the 'Painter's Palette' stamp set would look great paired with the new 'Pick A Pattern' designer series paper, so I stamped it twice so that I could add a little dimension between the easel and the canvas, added some paint splatters to the canvas in some of the colours that feature in the paper, paired with a bright Emerald Envy card base and that was my card done. An artistic start to the week!
