by Joanne James10. December 2014 10:00It's Wednesday and this week's challenge over at Colour Me...! is one of my favourites - we have a beautiful striking colour combination for you to work with:
Night of Navy and Silver - such a great pairing for Christmas cards. I immediately knew what I wanted to create with this week's colour combination - a star shaker card. Here it is:
When I uploaded my Design Team card this week, I can see I wasn't the only one who thought stars were a good idea - you know what they say about great minds thinking alike though, right? I created a layered panel of Night of Navy and Brushed Silver on a Night of Navy base, then stamped the large snowflake and sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed in silver. I then stamped the small snowflake all over the front of my card in Versamark to give a subtle background pattern. Lastly, I created a star shaker frame using silver foil, a piece of window sheet and some dimensionals and after placing a mixture of Frosted Sequins in the centre, attached my frame to the background.
I love shaker cards and really don't make them often enough; after all, they are such fun. Feel free to leave a comment on today's card, before hopping over to check out the amazing cards by the rest of the Colour Me...! team:
We look forward to seeing your striking creations - what does this palette inspire you to create?
Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James24. November 2014 09:25Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all had lovely weekends; mine was busy as always, with a Stampin' Up! party on Friday night, followed by the usual weekend of sport and a morning stood out in the driving rain watching my first rugby match yesterday (hockey is definitely a cleaner game!) Other highlights of my weekend included reaching the bottom of my ironing basket (to be celebrated!) and the addition of a new pet to the James household - Olivia the goldfish has joined Goldie, who was feeling lonely following the recent departure of Fishy.
So, onto today's card! Today I have a clean and simple card for this week's challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches, where Cindy has another great sketch for us:
I took inspiration from another of the designs in the Nordic Noel DSP pack and paired it with the sentiment stamp from Cheerful Christmas for my card today:
I used Soft Sky as my base and a piece of the Nordic Noel DSP featuring the acorns and pine sprigs for the left panel of my card. I stamped my feature sentiment in Garden Green on Whisper White and matted this onto a piece of Garden Green cardstock, rounding the corners on the right-hand side of both pieces. I used some Soft Sky and Calypso Coral Candy Dots to add a little colour to the main panel. Lastly, I added a strip of Garden Green and finished with a double loop of Baked Brown Sugar baker's twine. I love this thick twine - it's great for packaging but also works as a substitute for ribbon and ties a lovely bow.
I love the fresh look of this card; the Garden Green is definitely a festive colour, but pairing it with Soft Sky, Baked Brown Sugar and Calypso Coral and Whisper White adds a real crispness to it I think. That's all from me - I'm off to get ready for today's class featuring the Many Merry Stars kit; click here to order yours if you haven't already, before they're all gone.
Back tomorrow with another project and news of a fantastic one-week only demonstrator sign up offer - come back and check it out, you are not going to want to miss it! Until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James1. November 2014 22:26A quick post from me with today's card which is for this week's Merry Monday and Freshly Made Sketches challenges:
Snowflakes, naturals and dry embossing - and here is my card:
When I saw the challenge over at Merry Monday, I knew immediately that I was going to use the lovely Early Espresso/kraft paper in the DSP Under The Tree Speciality DSP pack; I teamed it with the Mingle All the Way stamp, stamped in Early Espresso on kraft, which also has little snowflakes on it and punched this out using a 2" circle punch and layered it using a couple of additional circles. I used the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder for my embossed panel and had to finish with one of the little wooden snowflake embellishments from the Merry Many Stars kit - I love these and with I could buy them just one their own, I could find so many uses for them!!
I usually find monochromatic colour schemes so tricky, but this card came together so well and I love the natural look that this card has.
That's me for today; back tomorrow with my Design team card for The Paper Players; until then, happy stampin'!

I'm back from Convention and will have more news on that tomorrow. Today has been all about catching up with my family, but I wanted to write a quick post to let you know that today Stampin' Up! has launched a new supplement to the Autumn-Winter Seasonal catalogue with a handful of new products that are guaranteed to get you in the mood for the festive season:
If you click on the above image, it will take you to the full supplement. There are two main great products that I would really like to highlight to you:
The Many Merry Stars Simply Created Kit - everything you need to create 26 stars that can be used as home décor or boxes for festive packaging and the largest of which measures a whopping 38 cm in diameter and would make a lovely alternative to a wreath with the addition of some wide ribbon. Check out the picture below showing just some of what's included, as demonstrated by Pam Morgan at the European Convention in Brussels this past weekend:
There is a also the 'Hello December' Project Life kit - perfect if you like to keep a 'daily December' record during the festive season.
I will be offering classes using both of the above products - I already have a Many merry Stars class scheduled for 24th November so if you'd like to attend call or email me for more details, more details on additional classes to follow - but meanwhile, do take a look at the supplement as all the items contained within it are only available WHILE STOCKS LAST - if you want to get you hands on them, I suggest you hop on over to the online store or give me a call as soon as possible to add your order to the one I'm placing tomorrow.
Back tomorrow with more creativity and fun; until then, happy stampin'!
