Tone on Tone Mother's Love Tag Card

by Joanne James1. May 2015 19:57

Yay - it's Friday! I've been a busy bee out and about today so am only just getting around to my blog post. I'm squeezing in a card to join the lovely ladies over at Less Is More this week where we need to have a tag on our card and I'm using this week's Color Throwdown colours, which I love:

I decided to 'go bold' with colour today and use the aqua in Coastal Cabana as my background for both my card and tag, to give a tone-on-tone look - take a look:

I order that my sentiment and flower would have an impact, I stamped both in Versamark and heat embossed in white which gives a lovely sheen. I then used my aquapainter to paint the detail of the flower petals and leaves with white craft ink and when it was dry, I painted them again with Strawberry Slush and Pear Pizzazz ink respectively. I punched my tag with the angle tag topper punch and added some white seam binding ribbon tied with some Strawberry Slush thick baker's twine to finish, before popping up with some dimensionals for a little extra lift. A super clean and simple card and I love the white on the aqua background, with the delicately watercoloured flower. Not to mention that lovely sentiment pairing from 'Mum's Love' - a favourite of mine. I'm also going to link today's card up with SUO Challenges, where the current challenge is to make a Mother's Day card, although this card would also work for a Mum's birthday card too.

I hope you like today's card; back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Nobody Loves Like A Mum...So True!

by Joanne James6. April 2015 10:29

Happy Monday everyone! I am here nice and prompt today to share a card that I made using the same sketch as yesterday from the Deconstructed Sketch for my old friends over at Colour Me...! as I haven't played along with those lovely ladies in ages:

Sandy's card this week is so gorgeous it prompted me to get in the monochromatic groove. Here is my card using this week's colours:

I made a slightly larger card than usual (A5 finished size) as I wanted to have plenty of space on my central panel. I used Soft Sky for my base and a piece of Soft Sky DSP from the Subtles paper stack for my patterned mat, along with some black mats to frame everything, then having stamped the base floral image in Soft Sky, I then stamped the top layer image and the sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed them with black embossing powder, which give a lovely sheen and glossy texture. I finished with a simple knotted bow using some black chevron ribbon overlaid with Soft Sky taffeta ribbon for a little touch of luxury. I decorated the inside of the card with the remaining half of the sentiment and some flowers (apologies - no photo!). I adore this stamp set - I love those two step stamping flowers, so easy to achieve with photopolymer, and the sentiment is just so heartfelt for a card to a mother - for Mother's Day, a birthday or 'just because'.

That's me done for today - I have some jobs to do and lunch to prepare before a pleasant bike ride to look forward to this afternoon, if the day turns out to be as nice as it looks right now. Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

Mum's Love 'For You' Card

by Joanne James21. February 2015 21:37

Finally I'm back with the program! Apologies for my lack of blog posts over the last few days; it has been a busy half term holiday week with the children at home and whilst we have had a fun week and I had a couple of classes too, I've had little opportunity for stamping and blogging. Anyway, what better way to get back into it than to enter this week's Mojo Monday challenge where the talented Julee Tilman has the following sketch for us to work with:

I also used this week's colour palette over at Colour Q for my card today, although I substituted the now retired Raspberry Ripple for Rose Red as this was the closest match I had. I decided to ink up the two step flower from the 'Mum's Love' set for the first time today - here's my finished card:

I kept my layers simple, with a Whisper White card base, thin border of Blackberry Bliss and then Wisteria Wonder for the main panel. I stamped the flower outline in Blackberry Bliss then in-filled with Rose Red - this stamp set is photopolymer so it makes two-step stamping really easy, no stamp-a-ma-jig required! I also used Rose Red for the smaller mat layer beneath the image and used gold foil cardstock for the diagonal. I stamped the sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed in gold, finishing with a punched gold foil flower with candy dot centre. I love the solid blocks of colour on this card and the pink and purples are such a lovely colour combination, with a touch of gold for added glamour.

I'm back tomorrow with this week's card for the new challenge over at the Paper Players; if you would like to see who I chose as the headliner for my ' CAS feathered friends' challenge, please click here for today's Paper Players post

Until tomorrow, happy stampin'!
