May The Magic Of The Season Fill Your Heart and Home

by Joanne James19. December 2015 21:30

Good evening lovely blog readers! Christmas preparations are full steam ahead here in the James household and now that the Juniors have broken up from school for the holidays I'm sure there will be even less crafting time than usual; so tough when there is a huge big box of pre-order Spring-Summer seasonal goodies sitting in the corner of my office! Luckily for you I still have some Christmas cards and projects that I haven't shared with you. So today I'm sharing one of the cards from my all day Christmas stamp-a-stack back in September - this one features the Home for Christmas DSP and one of the stamps from the Cozy Christmas set and was a favourite for the ladies who attended:

The Pacific Point really makes the colours on this card pop and the addition of the gold corded trim and the red glimmer paper poinsettia cut out using the framelit from the Delicate Ornament Thinlit Dies set adds a lovely touch of sparkle to this card. If you are in need of some last minute Christmas cards, you could knock a few of these out in no time. This sentiment is one of my absolute favourites - it says everything that is good about the holidays for me.

That's all from me tonight; The Paper Players team and I are taking a couple of weeks break over the Christmas period but fear not - I will be back tomorrow with another festive project that I think you'll like. Until then, happy stampin'!

Tis The Season To Be Holly

by Joanne James13. December 2015 10:00

It's Sunday and time for a new challenge over at The Paper Players! This week it is the turn of my good friend LeAnne to host and she has the following colour palette to get our creative juices flowing this week:

This is a special week for us as we say goodbye to our guest designers Jodi, Amy and Lisa. We are grateful that these lovely ladies have shared their considerable talent and creativity with us for the last 6 months and we wish them well on their respective journeys. We will miss you!

For my card this week I was inspired to use yet more of the lovely Home For Christmas paper and designed my card all around the holly. I also used the sketch over at The Global Design Project for my layout:

Really simple, allowing the holly patterned paper to do all the hard work on this one. The sentiment is from 'Oh What Fun' and the sentiment piece cut using the Tags and Labels Framelits. I added some Cherry Cobbler seam binding ribbon and highlighted the berries on my holly with pearls coloured with my retired Cherry Cobbler Blendabilities. I also created a second version of this card whilst I had everything out on my desk, using the same sketch but this time using the similar but slightly different colour palette over at Paper Pals Arts this week:

   12-10 PPA279

I used gold foil to make my sentiment banner stand out and fussy cut some holly from the dsp in place of the stamped sentiment and also added a flatter, more post-friendly bow with a scrap of ribbon I found in my stash:

Here's a close up of the label detail:

I really like how the gold gives a different effect.

Nutcracker Christmas Greetings

by Joanne James4. December 2015 22:59

It's Friday and mine has been a busy one! I have another Christmas card for you today, this time using the sketch over at Mojo Monday where it's 'tall and skinny' week:

   SIP Any Challenge 25 800

I'm also linking up with the peeps over at Stamps, Ink and Paper since my card today uses a stamp from my current favourite set - Sparkly Season. Take a look:

I used the striped Home for Christmas designer series paper as the inspiration for the colour scheme for my card and chose Pacific Point blue as the dominant colour; an unusual Christmas colour, but combining it with red and a touch of green definitely makes it worthy. I coloured my little scene with my Stampin' Write markers and finished my framed image with a cute bow cut using my Big Shot from the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits set. I heat embossed my minimalist sentiment in black on one of my two banners and added a Mossy Meadow enamel dot to finish.

My finished card measures 4" x 8 1/4" so of course needed a custom envelope, easily achieved with a sheet of red envelope paper, my trusty Envelope Punch Board and my Envelope Expert tool - a winner every time! If you haven't yet tried it or my Box Buster tool you should check them out - custom envelopes and boxes with perfect results every time!

I'll be back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

Santa's On His Way!

by Joanne James1. December 2015 09:00

It's Tuesday and I'm a little later with my post today as I've had the first of my December technique classes this morning - more on those projects another day. Today I have a card for this week's Pals Paper Arts challenge. Before we get to it though, I would like to say thank you to the designers over there for choosing this card as a PPA Pick last week - challenges are fun and it's always nice to have your work recognised so thank you PPA Peeps! This week's sketch was intriguing:

11-25 PPA 277

I immediately saw this sketch rotated through 90 degrees as the two elements looked like a signpost to me; my card didn't finish up quite where I started out - here it is:

I decided to go with a sign of sorts using this fun sentiment from the 'Cup of Cheer' stamp set and a wide ribbon banner behind for some added texture - and of course I couldn't resist adding a fussy cut santa from the 'Home for Christmas' designer series paper to finish. This card uses surprisingly few supplies but has a real festive feel I think.

As today is the 1st of December, I want to remind you all that if you haven't already registered your Stampin' Up! Wishlist with me, you still have time to do so. It's the best way to ensure that you get the Christmas gifts that your heart desires - and still have a surprise on Christmas Day! The last date for orders to be received in time for Christmas is 13th December, so don't leave it too late to place your yours. Please give me a call on 07773 421446 or email me for more details - I will even gift wrap for you!

A quick visit from me today; off shortly on the school run and then piano lessons - it's all go here! Back tomorrow with another festive project; until then, happy stampin'!

Cozy Christmas Tag Card

by Joanne James22. November 2015 10:00

It's Sunday and time for a new challenge over at The Paper Players! This week it is the turn of the lovely Laurie to host and she has a great sketch to get our creative juices flowing this week:

I decided to showcase some of the lovely Home For Christmas designer series paper on my card today along with one of the Cozy Christmas stamps on today's card:

I love this winter village scene paper so I paired it with a sentiment and the little house from the 'Cozy Christmas' stamp set. I stamped the scene in Mint Macaron and then cropped out the tree on the left and paper-pieced the house, which I stamped in Real Red. I added dimension with some puffy snow on the roof and trees and a wooden snowflake embellishment. I created my layered tag using the Tags and Labels framelits and to finish added a twirly bow using some retired in-colour ribbon in Mossy Meadow. Having had a busy week of classes and most of my day yesterday taken up with school projects I struggled to get into the groove with this card, but time was against me so in the end I had to stop fiddling with it and finish up!

I look forward to seeing what you make with Laurie's sketch this week. I'm off for a morning of sport and then both James Juniors are taking part in a basketball tournament this afternoon. Another busy Sunday!

Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

Christmas Cuties and Home For Christmas

by Joanne James4. November 2015 10:23

Happy Wednesday everyone! This is my second post today - click here if you would like to see this week's Weekly Deals post. For today's creative project, I have another Christmas card to share with you featuring another of the adorable characters from the Christmas Cuties stamp set and this week's sketch over at Retrosketches:

I also paired my Christmas Cuties with one of my under-used papers with the Home for Christmas designer series paper pack - take a look:

I stamped my image in Archival Black onto Extra Thick Whisper White and coloured it with my inks and aquapainter, then stamped the snow stamp around it in Pool Party. I mounted my stamped image panel onto a piece of Real Red that I had cut out with my scalloped circle framelit, the largest one in the Circles Framelits set. Behind this I used my piece of patterned paper, matted onto Mossy Meadow and a card base of Pool Party. I cut out my sentiment with my retired Word Bubble framelits and popped it up on dimensionals for a little lift.

This is one of those super cute cards that is very satisfying to produce - all that theraputic colouring! I'm happy to have found a layout that makes the most of that lovely background paper too.

That's all from me today; back tomorrow with my card for this week's new challenge over at Create With Connie and Mary. Until then, happy stampin'!

Santa's On His Way! Christmas Card

by Joanne James19. October 2015 08:00

Good morning - happy Monday everyone! Today I have a card for this week's challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches where they have a great sketch to work with this week:

I used the sketch as the basis for today's Christmas card, although I did make my card landscape rather than portrait as it seemed to fit my layers a little better. Here's my card:

I decided to use the 'Santa's on his way' sentiment from the Cup of Cheer stamp set for my focal sentiment and stamped it in Archival Basic Black on Very Vanilla, popping up the banner element which I stamped in Real Red. I backed this with an offset piece of red striped paper from the Home For Christmas DSP pack, and used a piece of the snow paper from the same set for my background. I used some retired Very Vanilla seam binding for my vertical stripe and for my second overlaid element I fussy cut one of the adorable Santa figures from the Home For Christmas DSP - I just love these papers, I am on my fourth pack already!

Today I will be putting the finishing touches to the preparations for my children's shaker Christmas Card class tomorrow. I'll be back to tell you all about it then and will have another project to share with you. Until then, happy stampin'!

Soon It Will Be Christmas Tree Card

by Joanne James29. September 2015 21:48

I've a super-quick post today to share another of my stamp-a-stack cards featuring the lovely Home for Christmas designer series paper and stamp from the 'Cup of Cheer' stamp set - take a look:

This is a layout I've used before, with a very similar card here that explains in more detail the items used - I just changed up the paper and colours so that I can use some of the lovely Christmas tree paper - this paper makes me think of Christmas day and opening all of the lovely present beneath the Christmas tree.

If you are as in love with this season's new designer series papers as I am, you may want to consider joining my paper share; I am currently doing my second round of paper and accessory shares from the seasonal catalogue - you can find all the details along with links to order in the original blog post here

I also have another stamp-a-stack Christmas card class planned for 10th November; if you would like to come along and make your Christmas cards ready for posting then you would be more than welcome - email or call me to book your place!

Back tomorrow with another project and this week's Weekly Deals. Until then, happy stampin!

Home For Christmas Jolly Reindeer Card

by Joanne James28. September 2015 22:14

Happy Monday everyone! Today I have another of the cards that I designed for my recent Christmas stamp-a-stack featuring an adorable reindeer from the Home For Christmas designer paper. This clean and layered card is just perfect for the challenge over at The Card Concept this week, which is to feature a forest friend on your card:

Isn't that inspiration photo just the cutest? Here's the reindeer forest friend that features on my card:

I used a Soft Suede base and a couple of patterned pieces of Home for Christmas DSP, then punched a 2" circle of Very Vanilla and adhered my fussy cut reindeer on the top. I stamped the 'Have a' and 'Christmas' parts of my sentiment from the Holly Jolly Greetings set in Memento Black onto Very Vanilla, then cut a 'jolly' out of red glimmer paper using my Big Shot and Christmas Greetings Thinlits Dies and adhered all of my sentiments with dimensionals for a little extra height. I just love the Home For Christmas Designer Series Paper - the retro designs are fantastic and the reindeers and santas are all decorated differently and in slightly different poses that are great for fussy cutting, although I'm not sure my ladies agreed after cutting out six of these little fellas!

That's all from me today; back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle All the Way!

by Joanne James22. September 2015 22:13

Did you know that September is classical music month? In honour of this, the CAS-ual Fridays Challenge has 'musical' as its theme and that's where I'm linking up my card today:

It might not be classical, but I had that classic of all Christmas carols, Jingle Bells, in my head when I made today's clean and simple card:

I used a base of Very Vanilla with a piece of musical notepaper (I used some retired paper) - the current 'Home For Christmas' dsp has some paper printed with Christmas carol sheet music that would be perfect for this. I then set my top panel of Very Vanilla at a jaunty angle and stamped my sentiment from the 'Jingle All The Way' stamp set in Real Red alongside the bell image from Cozy Christmas', which I coloured in using Crushed Curry and Garden Green Stampin' Write Markers, adding some red berry pearls that I coloured with a red Sharpie.

A super simple card - maybe one for my piano teacher this Christmas, I'm sure she would appreciate it!

Back tomorrow with this week's Wednesday deals; until then, happy stampin'!
