A Christmas Twofer To Start The Week

by Joanne James11. November 2024 12:00

Happy Monday! I had a little extra crafting time between Onstage presentations on Saturday so had a little play with Jacqui's current layout over at Freshly Made Sketches:

I made a couple of cards with the sketch, each featuring some of the current Christmas papers with some additional retired product. Here's the first one:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I wanted to use this 'dancing deer' paper from the Reindeer Days paper pack so used that for the main panel. This type of pattern really needs a big space to work and I didn't want to mix it with any other pattern, so added some coordinating solid colour blocks for the other three elements. It looked a little plain though and I couldn't decided where best to add my sentiment. I played with a few ideas and finally settled on some of the large wooden diecut words from last year's Santa Express Memories & More card pack:

I decided to have another go using one of my favourite patterns from the Winter Meadow designer series paper packs. This paper is a carryover from last year's mini catalogue and still available online. This time I mirrored the sketch as I wanted to position the deer in the outer corner for a more balanced design:

This time I did leave my border square and rectangles plain, picking out shades of grey from the image, and I added a stamped and fussy-cut sentiment to the cross point:

I also added some silver twine and a few rhinestones for a little festive sparkle to complete my card. I'm also linking this card up over at Inspire.Create Challenge where their current challenge is 'many shades of grey'; I'm not sure there are 50 shades on this one, but it is a Christmas card after all!

I wasn't feeling in a particularly creative mood so struggled a little with the FMS sketch this week, but it was nice to have a play - sometimes you need to just have a little crafty fun, right?

Joyful Nativity Christmas Blues

by Joanne James7. December 2022 20:00

Today I'm sharing a card for the current challenge over at Hand Stamped Sentiments where they have an inspiration challenge:

It's pretty obvious to see where my inspiration came from! I loved that nativity silhouette in blues in the bottom left corner and I wanted to recreate it using one of my favourite retired sets, Joyful Nativity, and ring the changes with some new blue colours. This is what I came up with:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I took a stitched circle in Orchid Oasis, then using a mask of torn paper, added ink in both Orchid Oasis and Starry Sky to create a faux-layered background. I added white splatters before stamping my holy family and stable in Orchid Oasis, using my Stamparatus to get a good, densely inked image:

I added a couple of wooden stars and a 'peace' sentiment, courtesy of the Santa Express Memories and More pack and left them bare as I like the resulting contrast against the blues. A little extra stamping on the inside completes my card:

So what do you think? I like to have a few religious cards to send out at Christmas time so I was glad to have the opportunity to bring out this set again.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

Jolly Memories and More Santa PP620

by Joanne James4. December 2022 08:00

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous LeAnne to host this week and she has a fun and festive theme challenge for you to work with:

I knew exactly where I was headed for today's card - yes the Santa Express Suite and the Memories and More card pack - you know how I love these cards! I went with a quick and simple card that is super easy for you to recreate - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I took a Petal Pink card base and used a retired snowflake stamp for a little tone-on-tone stamping for the background. I added a strip of red glimmer paper and an offcut of Santa Express designer paper, then used one of the wooden sentiments from the Memories & More pack along with a santa, fussy cut from one of the cards in the pack, for a jolly focal point:

I also used a couple of the wooden elements from the pack and a diecut snowflake for added detail. The stamped sentiment on the front of the card comes from the 'Jingle Jingle Jingle' stamp set, which I also used for the inside of my card:

Super easy using up lots of bits and pieces and really easy to recreate - just what we need now that we are into December! What's more, the Santa Express Memories and More card pack is reduced as part of the Last Chance promotion - I already treated myself to a couple of extra packs, and I would recommend you do too!

Stitched Triangle Dies Glimmer Christmas Tree CCS 495

by Joanne James8. November 2022 13:00

It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge over at CAS Colours & SketchesThis week's challenge is a sketch challenge and Cecile has asked that we overlap two inverted images on a square base:

Feel free to flip or rotate the sketch when making your card - you are also free to use a rectangular base if you'd prefer.

For my card today I did just that as I wanted my triangles to be isosceles as opposed to equilateral (GCSE flashback there!!) in shape. I don't use triangles often and whilst I was sure I wanted to make a Christmas tree from one of them, what to do with the other one? This is where I ended up:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I used some bright Parakeet Party glimmer paper to create my simple graphic Christmas tree, layering triangles cut from different gradients of colour to add interest. After much internal wrangling, I decided to use a plain white stitched triangle for the mirrored image; I think it works! I added a star to the top of my tree and a wooden pre diecut sentiment, both of which came from the Santa Express Memories and More card pack - I coloured them gold with (retired) gold Encore ink but you could get them same effect by heat-embossing them (I was short on time!) I added some holly made from a couple of diecut leaves from my scrap box and a trio of red rhinestones to balance my design and add a further pop of colour:

A simple sentiment on the inside completes my card. I'm linking today's card up over at Less is More where the challenge is to use two or more colours from the colour wheel - I've used red, yellow-green and green.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

As a reminder, for our colour challenges, you must use all of the stated challenge colours. You may also use neutral colours; however, the challenge colours should be the most noticeable ones featured on your card. We use Stampin' Up! color names for reference, but you are welcome to use any other companies' products as long as you match the challenge colours as closely as possible.

Enjoy your day and I'll be back soon with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Country Wreath Season's Greetings Memories and More Christmas Card

by Joanne James25. October 2022 11:15

I had a little extra crafty time yesterday so thought I'd pop by to share an extra card that I made with the current Fusion sketch:

When I had my Santa Express Memories and More Cards out on my desk to make this card that I shared with you on Sunday, it occurred to me that one of the large cards would be a great jumping-off point for the Fusion sketch and with just a few extra bits and pieces I could make another quick Christmas card to add to my stash - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

This is another of those cards where the Memories and More cards take the strain - you can see the 'undressed' card in the corner of the photo at the bottom of this post - I added a simple banner and a wreath cut in Shaded Spruce cardstock using the Country Wreaths Dies, decorated with a bow cut from white velvet paper for a little added texture and some glittery (retired) enamel dot berries (the sequins listed below would make a good current substitute):

I didn't need to do any stamping, as the card had a sentiment already printed onto it - I simply picked out some key colours and shapes (the wreath detail echoes the berry detail on the M&M card) and used those for my banner detail. This is a great way to dress up a simple card base - perfect for a quick card.

Also - did you know that Stampin' Up! sells Basic White Assorted Memories and More Cards and Envelopes in packs of 20, that are sized perfectly to fit memories and More cards? You don't even need to cut anything down to size; bonus! You can find them on page 136 of the Annual Catalogue and they are the perfect addition to your Christmas craft supplies for quick and easy cardmaking.

Santa Express Memories and More Christmas Shaker Card PP614

by Joanne James23. October 2022 08:00

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous Ann to host this week and she has my favourite, a sketch challenge for us to work with:

I saw Ann's sketch and immediately knew what I wanted to do with it - I love it when that happens! I mirror-flipped the sketch on the vertical and this is what I came up with - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

A Christmas Shaker - Who can resist a shaker, let alone one that is this colourful and festive?! I thought that central frame would be perfect for a feature shaker, filled with red, white and silver sequins. I made a frame using my Rectangle Stitched Framelits and used one of the patterned acetates from the Santa Express Memories and More Cards for my shaker front:

I chose some complimentary papers from the Santa Express designer series paper pack in Poppy Parade and a colourful 'ho, ho, ho' design for my frame and central border element to tie in with my shaker frame.

Ho Ho Santa - I accented my shaker frame with a jolly santa that I fussy cut from one of the Santa Express Memories and More cards, to which I added one of the flat jingle bell trinkets using some co-ordinating (retired) festive baker's twine.

Don't Forget The Inside - I finished the inside of my card with another offcut of designer paper and a sentiment from the Sweet Candy Canes stamp set - I also used a narrow one from the same set on the front of my card:

I just love this card - so fun!! The Santa Express Memories & More cards are just fantastic - so useful for cards and scrapbooking alike! This is the first one of the included acetates that I've used; I also love the wood word diecuts too. An all-round, super useful set!

Santa Express Memories and More Card PP613 CAS

by Joanne James16. October 2022 08:00

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous LeAnne to host this week and she has a fun clean and simple challenge for us to work with:

I used Judy's great sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches this week for my layout and found some wheels on Santa's Express train for my no-stamping clean and simple card - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Today's card really is so simple! I used a pair of Santa Express Memories & More cards to create my fun scene: I trimmed one down for the background then fussy cut my santa express train from another to create my snowy scene. I added a couple of borders, some (retired) Petal Pink ribbon to the bottom border and a few (retired) adhesive snowflakes to complete my scene:

I didn't even have to stamp a sentiment as there was already one printed onto the Memories & More card! These are great for quick cards and the acetates and wooden diecut words that are also included in the pack make this set great value for Christmas crafting.
