Just Kiddin Adventure Awaits FMS627

by Joanne James18. March 2024 11:30

No crafting time today but I do have a quick card to share using Karren's layout over at Freshly Made Sketches this week:

I didn't go slimline (largely because I was so fixated on making my card, I totally forgot about that bit - good job it was optional!) but I couldn't wait to use Karren's layout for another card featuring my favourite Just Kiddin' designer series paper - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I added a panel of Boho Blue embossed with the (retired) High Seas 3D Embossing Folder to the lower portion of my white cardfront, fussy cutting along the edge of the waves - I love the dimension that this adds and it picks up the detail from the fussy cut image. My trio sailing in their cardbox box boat make the perfect focal point and broadly follow the curved shape of Karren's semi circle:

A sentiment from then (retired) 'Beautiful World' was all that was needed to complete today's fun card.

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

Enjoy your day; mine is filled with domestic bliss - the price we pay for a weekend away, but I wouldn't have it any other way! I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Ahoy It's Your Birthday CAS Masculine Cards for PP464

by Joanne James20. October 2019 09:00

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the fabulous LeAnne to host this week and she has a great Clean and Simple challenge for you to work with:

As you are reading this, I am away entertaining a lovely group of ladies at my Creative Escapes weekend craft retreat where we will be Christmas crafting to the max. My cards for you today though are all about birthdays - and male birthdays at that! I made these cards a while ago when I was preparing for my 'Come Sail Away' technique card class, although I didn't feature them in the class itself and LeAnne's challenge this week is the perfect opportunity for me to share them with you. I made two cards in one sitting and wanted to share both with you, so first up the more clean-and-simple of the two:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

All At Sea - Both of my cards feature a background layer embossed with the High Seas embossing folder for some subtle texture. I love the detail that this gives and it’s perfect for my nautical theme.

Ahoy The Hand Lettered Prose Dies - I used my diecutting machine and the Hand Lettered Prose Dies to diecut an a, h, and y from my Balmy Blue card layer before I added the waves embossing. This allowed me to use the negative space to show the contrast of colour with the navy cardstock behind and gave me the opportunity to make a second card using the letters I had cut out with just a little extra effort. If you like these letters, it is worth also checking out the blog of one of our current Paper Players guest designers, SU Mohr (see the link list below), who has created many wonderful projects using them.

O It's A Ship's Wheel - I substituted the ‘o’ in the word ‘ahoy’ with a ship’s wheel from the Smooth Sailing Dies to tie in with my theme and added a frosted epoxy droplet to the centre for some subtle bling. I love playing with words to create this effect! I finished my sentiment with a stamp from the ‘Broadway Birthday’ set. The second of my two cards is below, which uses an extra layer and the positive rather than negative letters, but is otherwise the same basic card:

So what do you think? Is today's sentiment loud enough to celebrate a birthday? I’m now of an age where I’m not shout from the rooftops with each passing year, however I do love to celebrate and am thankful for the many thoughtful cards i receive from friends and family near and far.

We'll Walrus Be Friends Friendship Card

by Joanne James30. September 2019 07:00

Happy Monday everyone! I am starting the week with a card for the current challenge over at Festive Friday that is also my second using this week's Freshly Made Sketches sketch:

I chose friendship, blue and orange as my 3 items from the Festive Friday inspo list and made this sweet card using one of my favourite sets in the annual catalogue, 'We'll Walrus Be Friends':

I stamped my main image on a Whisper White stitched oval, popping my goldfish up on dimensionals, and coloured it with my Blends and a liberal dose of clear Wink of Stella on the iceberg. I popped this onto a base embossed with the High Seas embossing folder. Both the iceberg sparkle and embossed waves are difficult to see on my photo, but they add so much to this card in real life. I love this card - I am going to send it to one of the James Juniors in their school bag one day when they need a little cheering up!

We'll Walrus Be Friends Walrus Thank You Card

by Joanne James9. August 2019 20:00

Today I'm sharing a card for the current sketch challenge over at Fab Friday:

This is one of those great sketches that is so versatile with so many possibilities. I used the opportunity to break out a new stamp set - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

We'll Walrus Be Friends - I love a punny sentiment and am finding myself doing more and more colouring these days, so 'We'll Walrus Be Friends' was always going to be on my list! A great set with words for lots of occasions and images that are small enough to colour quickly but also give a satisfying few minutes of relaxation, this is a great fun set.

High Seas - I coloured my image in with my Stampin' Blends and I embossed the mat layer on my card base with the High Seas embossing folder to tie in with the waves on my stamped image. I don't tend to use a lot of texture on my cards, but I love the extra layer of detail this embossing gives.

Not Quite CAS - I started out intending this card to be my entry for the current Less Is More challenge where the challenge this week is to use orange, aqua and white on your card, but decided once I'd added the embossed layer that this probably wasn't clean and simple enough for the strict rules that the LIM ladies follow - back to the drawing board on that one! I do love the fresh colour combo though - here it is if you would like to save it for future reference:
