Delivering Cheer in Christmas Plaid FF00098

by Joanne James26. November 2021 09:00

This is my first post of a two-post Friday and I'm here with my card for the new challenge over at Festive Friday.

The challenge that we are celebrating this week is 'Christmas Jumper Day' which is on 10th December this year. Remember the fun thing is that at Festive Friday you do not need to actually celebrate the occasion; your goal is to simply use three or more items from the inspiration list on your project. No jumpers for me this week; instead I used red, green, gold, plaid and glitter as my starting point and this is what I came up with:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Wrapped In Plaid - First up - I based my card today around a scrap of retired Wrapped in Plaid designer series paper that I found in my scraps box. I just loved the mix of colours and not only did it feature gold, red and green so use three items on the inspiration list straight off the bat, it is perfectly festive to ...

Delivering Cheer - ... paper-piece onto the skirt of my 'Delivering Cheer' party girl. For the top half I used the armful of gifts, all coloured with my Stampin' Blends to coordinate with her skirt. This is such a fun stamp set with so many mix and match options. It reminds me of the paper dressing up dolls I had as a child! I added another scrap of plaid along with a sentiment from the same set to the inside of my card:

All That Glitters - I heat embossed my cover sentiment in gold, added a gold Wink of Stella bow to my parcel pile and added a trio of gold gilded gems, but the real glitter comes from the retired Be Dazzling paper that I used for my mat layer - I can't tell you what a fabulous sparkle this adds in real life:

I love the finished look of this card; this is how I imagine I look on Christmas Day, although I'm sure my family would disagree!

Evergreen Forest Embossed Trees Christmas Card TTT82

by Joanne James17. September 2020 18:00

It's Thursday and time for a new challenge over at TicTacToe! It's the turn of Team X to host this week and this week's board was designed by Amy. This is the fun board that we are playing along with:

We are rapidly approaching autumn and this week's board has lots of elements that would suit a fall card, but I combined it with the current Fab Friday sketch and went straight to Christmas as I continue to build my card stash! The Fab Friday sketch has a lovely open panel that is open to all kinds of interpretation and after some deliberation I knew exactly what I wanted to use it for - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Centre Stage Embossing - I'm not generally a big user of embossing folders, although I do have my favourites: any that create a lightly textured background (bring on Subtle or Tasteful Textile 3D!) or embossing folders that make a statement in their own right (past favourites include Seasonal Wreath or Winter Wonder). The current Autumn Winter catalogue includes an embossing folder that can be used either as a background or a centrepiece - love a double-duty solution! The Evergreen Forest 3D Embossing Folder has a ton of texture and whilst it doesn't need to be confined to Christmas projects, I wanted to showcase it today as a forest of potential Christmas trees - just look at the depth of the embossed detailing:

It's In The Detail - I went down the first column of the TicTacToe board for today's card - Trees, Embossing, Diecut - and whilst it's easy to see where the first two elements are on my card, blink and you could miss the last one! I used a Rectangle Stitched Die to cut out my heat embossed sentiment (tick!) and backed this with a simple punch banner. The colours on today's card were inspired by this retired piece of Wrapped in Plaid designer series paper that I chose so that I could highlight my lovely green embossed trees and tie in the gold sentiment and brushed gold foil matting too.

Perfectly Plaid Inside Too - I continued the plaid theme onto the inside of my card too with a stamped plaid Christmas tree and sentiment from the annual catalogue set, 'Perfectly Plaid':

I like this card so much I think I'll make a few more - a great excuse to use up some of that retired plaid paper too!

A tictactoe board offers so many creative possibilities - how does this week's board inspire you? Why not have a go? We would love to see you in the gallery and who knows - you might be selected for Designer's Choice and be eligible to be a guest designer on a future challenge.

Enjoy your evening; I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Detailed Deer Wrapped in Plaid Card and Gift Box

by Joanne James25. November 2019 21:30

I've had a busy day today and a fun evening spent Christmas crafting with a group of local Brownie Guides and Rainbows so I'm back late with a quick post to share another card that uses my sketch over at The Paper Players that I used for yesterday's card (you can see that card here if you missed it), this time for the challenges over at Festive Friday (my card has a woodland creature, glitter, gold and twine from the Inspo List) and Inkspire Me where metallics are the order of the day:

   # 406 - 21.11.2019 Christmas-Special METALLIC - Heike 406_we10

I decided to go all-out with the sparkle for today's card and combined a leaping gold glimmer deer cut with the Detailed Deer Thinlits combined with some festive Wrapped in Plaid designer series paper - take a look:

I used the same sentiment from 'Itty Bitty Christmas' stamp set that I used on yesterday's card, this time heat embossed in gold onto Cherry Cobbler cardstock. I even customised one of the Gold Mini Pizza Boxes to make a matching gift box:

I think they look really great together - I especially like the addition of the jingle bells to the deer on the gift box for an extra festive touch.
