Grandad's Treasures of Life AYSI 245

by Joanne James5. March 2021 13:00

Today I'm sharing my design team card for our new challenge over at As you See It where it's time for a recipe challenge:

The often-dreaded masculine card! I decided to go with one of my current favourites from the January-June mini catalogue as I wanted to give this set another outing and create something a little different to my previous card with this set (you can see that card here if you missed it). Here's my card for today:

 Here's the low-down on today's card:

Treasures of Life - I decided to use the Grandad and Grandson image from the 'Treasures of Life' stamp set as the main feature of my masculine card today. This is such a beautiful set to celebrate the joys of being a grandparent. I stamped my image in Early Espresso and gave it a rough watercolou in earthy tones, picking out some of the details of the little boy in Night of Navy. I stamped my image on some retired Naturals White card for added texture and added another sentiment to the inside of my card from the set:

I left it otherwise fairly blank as I haven't yet decided what occasion I'm going to use this card for and I may add a birthday greeting too in due course.

All About Texture - I used lots of textural elements on today's card: a piece of Early Espresso embossed with the Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder, a piece of the In Good Taste designer series paper. along with the texture added by the navy twine and my naturals white cardstock. I think the combination of elements along with the earthy brown tones give my card a homely, cosy feel. What do you think?

Tasteful Labels and an Old Faithful - The final element to complete this week's recipe challenge was to use a diecut: I used one of the Tasteful Labels dies for my sentiment, along with one of my old faithful Stitched Rectangle Dies to frame my watercoloured image.

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

So how will you use this week's recipe?

Here's a summary of our challenge rules:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging project that fits the challenge.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we can leave you lots of lovely comments. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSIXXX when uploading to a public gallery.
  • If you’re unsure about ‘the rules’, check the details under the Challenge Guidelines tab on the As You See It Challenge homepage.
We look forward to seeing your creations in the AYSI gallery.

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Press On With A Purple Coffee Cup AYSI 239

by Joanne James20. November 2020 12:00

Today I'm sharing my design team card for our new challenge over at As you See It where it's time for an interesting 'fill in the blank' challenge:

I'll confess I found this a big challenge! There aren't many colours I actively avoid using, although there are definitely some I use far less than others! Orange only features during pumpkin season (or for snowman carrot noses!) but a review of my back catalogue showed me there was another colour that I rarely use - and it might surprise you! I don't often use colour as a starting point on a project either - so making one languishing at the bottom of the pile and making it the focus of my card was a real challenge! I still had a helping hand, in the form of the current Fusion sketch and this week's hot drink theme over at Global Design Project to create my card - take a look:

So did you spot it? Yes, it's Rich Razzleberry! I love purple and often feature it in my creations, however this particular purple is not a favourite for me. But I went for it! Here's the low-down on today's card:

Plaid Tidings - I knew that Rich Razzleberry was one of the colours that featured in the Plaid Tidings designer paper (and that I had all of this particular pattern left!), so I decided I would do something that featured this paper as a starting point. I decided to wrap a purple coffee cup and pair the card base with a mat layer in Mango Melody, one of the other colours that feature in the plaid pattern and do all my stamping in Rich Razzleberry too.

Go Large - In order to fit the proportions of the sketch, I needed to 'go large' with my takeaway coffee. With the coffee cup in the 'Press on' stamp set, this is actually really easy to do: take your black Stampin' Write marker and extend the sides and add another horizontal line for the base. Simple!

Added Texture - I added a little extra texture to my cup by adding a textured coffee collar and a couple of wooden elements, for some added detail since the whole thing has a kind-of autumn feel I think:

So what do you think? I like the end result, but I don't love it. When my discerning teenager saw the finished result, she declared that whilst she loved both colours separately, she did not care to see them used together! Perhaps I should have gone monochrome ...

Enjoy your day. I for one is glad it's Friday and I'm looking forward to a slightly quieter evening than I've had for the rest of this week. I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Harvest Hello Pumpkin Giving Thanks PP515

by Joanne James1. November 2020 09:00

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of the amazing Laurie to host this week and she has a theme challenge for you to work with:

I don't have any turkeys in my current stamp collection so decided to go with pumpkins and the overall 'thankful' theme, along with the layout of the inspiration photo over at Inspire.Create, to create my card this week - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Harvest Hellos - I used the 'Harvest Hellos' stamp set for my feature pumpkin on today's card, and highlighted the detail with Pumpkin Pie and Calypso Coral Stampin' Blends, before punching out with the Apple Builder Punch.

Texture, Texture - There's lots of texture on today's card: a woodgrain background courtesy of the In Good Taste designer paper, wooden leaf embellishments, twine, linen braid and the lacy diecut panel from the Stitched Lace Die. Not very post-friendly granted, but the texture and dimension add so much interest and detail:

Word Wishes - For my sentiment, I snipped the word 'thanks' from the 'thanksgiving' die in the Word Wishes set and stacked it on the front of my card, and paired it with the word 'giving' that was masked from the full sentiment that I used inside my card:

I was really pleased with the way this card turned out. I'm also linking up with the team over at SUO Challenges with another entry for their Autumn/Fall challenge.

Enjoy your day; we will more than likely be spending the day indoors to once again escape the howling winds and rain - the weather has been dreadful here this week! With continued social distancing a focus during this half term, we resorted to an online escape room game on Friday afternoon; whilst not the same as doing one in person, it was surprisingly good fun. We bought a 3 game package so I think the James' may well be spending the afternoon breaking more codes and solving puzzles against the clock!

I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!
