by Joanne James24. October 2015 19:57Yay, it's the weekend! I've had a child-free day today as the James juniors are at Grannies for a couple of days, which has meant a whole day of crafting and lots of things made and ready to share with you for the forthcoming week.
Today I have a fun Halloween card with some paper-pieced pumpkins, inspired by the inspiration over at The Challenge and Curtain Call, where the theme is patterned pumpkins, and The Friday Mashup where they are looking for projects with either a Halloween theme or featuring ribbon, or both (which I managed this week!):
I went with a sketch layout that you've seen me use previously on my reindeer Christmas card here as it was perfect for my paper-pieced pumpkins - take a look:
My card is something of a showcase of the Happy Haunting Designer Series Paper today: I created my base layer using the plaid pattern on a mat of Basic Black and a card base of Tangelo Twist, then for my centre square created a trio of paper-pieced pumpkins, each one featuring a different paper pattern, using my retired small oval punch and a stalk from a punched acorn top. My sentiment is from the 'A Little Something' set, stamped in Memento Black ink and the trio of little pumpkins coloured in with my tangelo Twist Stampin' Write marker. I adhered my central square to my card base using dimensionals, having first added a piece of spider's web doily and retired Tangelo Twist satin ribbon to my corner treatment.
The papers in the Happy Haunting pack are great and not just useful for Halloween - three of the four paper patterns I've used on today's card would work equally well on non-Halloween themed projects.
That's all from me today; back tomorrow with a stunning Christmas creation (even if I say so myself!) for our new challenge over at The Paper Players. Until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James2. October 2015 07:50Happy Friday everyone - there is always something psychologically good about the end of the working week! Today I have a fun Christmas card for you using this week's Retroketches inspiration for my layout:
The minute I saw this sketch I knew it offered the perfect opportunity to use more of the lovely reindeer paper clips on my card - take a look:
I used a 6" square base of Mossy Meadow card stock with mats in Real Red and used a piece of the festive gingham paper from the Merry Moments DSP stack for the feature DSP layer. I adhered three reindeer paper clips to my cardfront as per the sketch and for the sentiment used one from the 'A Little Something' set; this set co-ordinates with and is available as a bundle with the Square Pillow Box Thinlits Dies - the three-part sentiment was the perfect fit. A sliver of retired Old Olive pleated ribbon completes my card. I just love these reindeer paper clips - so versatile and such a fun festive accessory!
That's all from me today; we have a busy weekend with a school open day and a birthday in the house, in addition to the usual weekend chaos of homework and sport. Wish me luck!
Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James22. August 2015 13:26Well, it's the sunniest day that we've had all week here in the UK and here I am - with an Autumn card! I used the sketch layout over at Mojo Monday for my inspiration today:
More sneak peeks today, this time of some of the wonderful Autumn papers and accessories coming up in the new Autumn-Winter seasonal catalogue that launches in a couple of weeks time. Here is today's card:
I used Old Olive for my base with a mat of Daffodil Delight and took the colours for my card today from the colour scheme of the new Into The Woods Designer Series paper; gorgeous browns, greens, yellow, orange with a pop of purple - I pulled this colour out and used the new Rich Razzleberry co-ordinating Into the Woods Cotton Ribbon for the diagonals on my card; this ribbon has great texture! I coloured my sentiment in using a variety of Stampin' Write markers - this is from a set called 'A Little Something', a great selection of stamps that also co-ordinate with the new Square Pillow Box Thinlits Dies. I finished with a trio of Into The Woods Wood Elements, etched with some lovely few acorn and leaf images. I just love the bright colours of this card, with plenty of white within the pattern to balance it.
Right - I'm off for a bike ride this afternoon with family and friends, followed by an entirely vegetarian BBQ. This is something of a rarity in the James household, but since I'm entertaining one of my dearest long-standing vegetarian friends who I once served a ham sandwich to (and she ate it because she was too polite to point out she was vegetarian!!!) I have been making up for it ever since. Not a piece of Quorn or tofu in sight - I'll let you know tomorrow what she thinks of the vegetarian feast we have planned!
Back tomorrow with a new challenge over at The Paper Players. I am the hostess this week and I have a great sketch challenge for you, so you're going to want to come back and take a look! Until then, happy stampin'!
