by Joanne James24. February 2016 15:01It's mid week Wednesday - happy hump day everyone! I'm a little later posting today as I didn't get a chance to post prior to my Coffee and Card Class at Bells in Northampton this morning. Fun was had by all and we are looking forward to doing it again in two weeks time at the next session on Wednesday 9th March, so I hope to see some of you there! Back to today and I have a card for this week's CAS(E) This Sketch:
There are some fabulous Design Team examples over there this week and I just had to have a go. The weather in the UK has been much brighter the last few days; gone are the rain clouds, with sunny, crisp frosty days in their place - the change in weather made me think of rainbows and I had the urge to create a bold and bright birthday card to this week's challenge:
Using a piece of Real Red for my card base and a Basic Black mat, I took a piece of Irresistibly Yours Speciality Designer Paper (I used some of my last year's Sale-A-Bration paper, but the current pack has a slightly narrower stripe that would work too). I sponged my panel using sponge daubers a line at a time in a rainbow of colours: Calypso Coral, Watermelon Wonder, Real Red - left a few lines blank to house my diecut - Tangerine Tango, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry, Cucumber Crush, Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point, Rich Razzleberry and Elegant Eggplant. Sponge daubers are great for allowing control and shading without needing to mask off your pre-embossed card. For my sentiment, I used a combination of a diecut sentiment cut with my Big Shot and 'Hello You' thinlits and a stamp that I heat embossed in white on black from the 'Endless Birthday Wishes' stamp set. I also used this stamp set to decorate the inside of my card and the envelope - no naked envelopes today!
This is one of those cards that is easy to create, bright and suitable for pretty much anyone - young or old, girls and boys; a great card to have on standby! It has a lovely subtle sheen in real life due to the embossing on the white lines and it's also nice and flat, so great for mailing.
Here's today's visual summary for easy reference:
That's all from me today; I'm off to put the finishing touches to a few more projects. Back tomorrow with a cute card for this week's new challenge over at Create With Connie and Mary. until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James15. June 2015 13:27Happy Monday everyone! It is a happy one here in the James Household as the oldest of my James Juniors is 10 years old today! I will share her birthday card tomorrow, but for today I have another rather patriotic-themed card for this week's challenge over at Colour Me where they have the following striking colour combination:
This was definitely calling for an all-out stars and stripes combo - so I dug out my SAB Irresistibly Yours paper and got sponging! I am also linking up with SUO Challenges again today as this card fits their theme of stars and stripes perfectly. Here's my card:
I just love how this card turned out! Some simply sponged panels in the challenge colours and the paper really does all the work - I'm so glad we now have the Colour Me Irresistible paper in the annual catalogue too. The stripes in the pack are diagonal so I cut the paper at an angle to straighten them up, added a 'Bravo!' stamp from the set of the same name and some stars cut with my Big Shot and star framelits to finish. Simply but I hope you agree, rather effective!
That's all from me today - lots to do! Back tomorrow with a rather special birthday card to share; until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James23. May 2015 17:47I've had a lovely crafty morning earlier but am later with my blog post as I've been at a basket ball tournament this afternoon with the youngest James Junior (his school club team were tournament winners - woohoo!) and then since we have a rare swim-free Saturday, the children are sleeping over at Grannies and the DH and I treated ourselves to dinner and a movie - Pitch Perfect 2 (aka-awesome - every bit as good as the first one!) All in all a great day, but since what you're really here for is my card let's get to it! Today I used this week's Freshly Made Sketches sketch as my inspiration:
I needed a birthday card for a 10 year old girlfriend of Rebecca's and decided that this sketch would be perfect for what I had in mind - here's my card:
I started out with my Simply Created Hooray It's Your Day Card Kit and co-ordinating stamp set, and whilst I used the stamp set and embellishment and took my ideas from the kit, I really wanted something altogether more pink so chose a combination of Strawberry Slush and Pink Pirouette for my card and sponged onto a piece of Sale-A-Bration Irresistibly Yours Designer Series Paper for my background. I did interpret the sketch somewhat loosely, but you can see the main elements: the glimmer strip in the background, the speech bubbles (I am so going to miss these retiring framelits!) for the panel and the wooden 'hello' embellishment as my main focal point, although I did also add an Itty Bitty Accents punched flower and a glimmer butterfly to balance it out and add to the girly feel. I also added a Tip Top Taupe speech bubble to break up the pink a little - this colour goes so well with Pink Pirouette!
I hope you like today's birthday card; come back tomorrow to see what fun we have in store for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players - there will be more sneak peeks, so you won't want to miss it! Until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James7. March 2015 21:25I've been busy working with my 'Indescribable Gift' stamp set as it is the stamp set that I'll be using in my technique class this month so I decided to use it to create a card for this week's Mojo Monday challenge:
I thought the circle would make a great space for the apple blossom to peek through - take a look:
I used a base of Pink Pirouette and matted it with a piece of the 'Irresistibly Yours' embossed paper - free with an order of £45 or more before the end of March - that I had sponged with Pink Pirouette ink, to add a little interest but not detract from my flower branch. I used Wild Wasabi for the panel and having stamped the blossom onto Whisper White, I coloured it with my Pink Pirouette, Wild Wasabi and Crumb Cake Blendabilities and fussy cut it out. I then positioned it through the aperture and and finally added my sentiment panel across the bottom.
This card was not quick to create - the fussy cutting took a while! - but it was well worth it. I love the finished effect.
Back tomorrow with my card for this week's new Paper Player's challenge. Until then, happy stampin'!

by Joanne James25. January 2015 20:32I'm just popping in to share with you a card that I made for this week's Mojo Monday challenge; I was going to share this yesterday, but was so tired when I got in from taking the James Juniors to their swimming gala I just wasn't awake enough to type! So here is this week's challenge sketch:
This is a great sketch for a feature sentiment; I built up my layers and took the opportunity to showcase not one but two of the great free gifts that you can earn with a £45 order during Sale-A-Bration: the stamp set 'Simply Wonderful', and the 'Irresistibly Yours' Speciality Designer Series Paper. Here is my card:
I stamped my sentiment in Island Indigo then added the flower stamp from the same set and a punched Itty Bitty flower finished with a candy dot centre. I layered this central circle to echo the colours and layers on the base of my card and used the central section of the base layer to feature the beautiful 'Irresistibly Yours' Specialty DSP. This white paper with its pre-embossed glossy white patterns could easily be overlooked in the Sale-A-Bration catalogue, yet when you colour it, it really brings it to life. For my card today, I chose to sponge mine with Crisp Cantaloupe ink to show the embossed flowers - isn't it pretty? the stamp set or the DSP could be yours with an order of £45 - or since you get to choose one free gift for each £45 spend, why not splash out and treat yourself to both? Sale-A-Bration runs until 31st March, so you have plenty of time to take advantage.
Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!
