Count Your Blessings Fall Card For The Paper Players

by Joanne James7. September 2014 08:00

Today's card is for this week's challenge over at The Paper Players, where Ann has a 'Happy Fall, Y'all' theme for us this week:

I immediately knew what I was going to do for my fall card this week; I've had my eye on a sheet of the DSP in the Motley Monsters Designer Series paper pack that I thought would be perfect for a fall-themed card, and this week's sketch over at Create with Connie and Mary provided the perfect layout. Here's my card:

This falling leaf paper is actually the top of the sheet that has the little Motley Monsters pattern across the bottom, but by only using the top section this paper is perfect for fall. In fact, of the 12 designs in the pack, half of them can be used for non-Halloween themed projects, so it's definitely worth a look for more than just Halloween. Anyway, I digress!

I took the colours for my card from the DSP, and used Sahara Sand for my base, with a vertical border of Basic Black to edge my piece of leafy DSP. I then cut an oval in Tangerine Tango using my Big Shot and Oval Framelits and embossed this with the Woodgrain embossing folder. I stamped my sentiment from the 'Gratitude For Days' set in Memento Black onto Crushed Curry and layered this on top, then finished with the real focal point of my card, a trio of wooden shapes from the Autumn Wooden Elements set, which I layered and finished off with a black and white baker's twine bow.

A simple card that reminds me of fun afternoons in the park, kicking leaves and collecting conkers on a crisp Autumn day. Do pop by and visit the other Paper Players Design Team blogs - there is some great inspiration for you out there as always this week and they would love you to leave a comment or two.

I'm having a lovely weekend: yesterday Rebecca had a great day in London - Mama Mia The Musical was excellent - and today I am expecting to be truly spoiled as it's my birthday! I am looking forward to a roast dinner with all the trimmings and a day of fun with my family.

Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

Thanks Yapha - I've had a super day! I so love the Motley Monster paper pack - normally I don't buy any Halloween papers, but this paper really is so versatile! I am saving the bottom half to make some frames like the one in the catalogue.

Very nice card, I too luv the paper with the Motley Monsters on it and you've utilized it nicely.  The orange oval is a great tie in to all the colors and I love the little wooden embelishments.
BTW, what are conkers?

Thanks Nance - on no, an English thing!! I was so careful with the whole Fall/Autumn thing, I missed this one! They are the seeds of the horse chestnut tree - not sure what they are called Stateside ... I have sent a picture to one of my American friends who is great with this sort of thing, so I'll be sure to report back! It occurs to me the horse chestnut tree may be specific to the UK and not found in the USA ... I'll keep you posted!

Morning Nance! So I have it on good authority that in the USA 'conkers' are called 'Buckeye' - hope that helps! We spent a fun hour at the park collecting them yesterday - now I'm being plague to dry them out in the oven and thread them on strings for games!

Oh drat, I hate it when I could have sent you a birthday card and I didn't KNOW it was your birthday!  Well, have a lovely one!  And I love your card...this paper and the candy corn are my favorites from this pack!  What a great sentiment too.....I need to go back and look at that set!!!

No matter LeAnne - I appreciate the birthday wishes across the miles! You can have my candy corn paper - this is the only one in the pack I'm not sure how to use - we don't have candy corn in the UK so no-one recognises it!! As for the sentiment - I totally overlooked this set in the first instance because I didn't want the card set with it, but there are some lovely leaves in it and a selection of great sayings. Go take a look!

Thank you Dawn - spoiled indeed, I had a lovely day! Glad you like the card - I didn't think about a pumpkin when I made this card, but now you've suggested it I think you're absolutely right - a happy coincidence!

Thanks Margaret for the birthday wishes - so glad you liked my card! I love the greetings in the 'Gratitude for Days' set - they seem to suit Fall cards, but also can be used for lots of other things too and I think the set stands up on its own - you don't need to have the Simply Created kit that it co-ordinates with to get most from it.

Hope you had a Happy Birthday!  I LOVE this print and wish they would have given us whole sheets of it in that package!  And Buckeyes...Ohio State University mascot is the Buckeyes and we have tons of the trees in Ohio.  People collect the buckeye nuts up to make crafts (buckeye necklaces) and to decorate vases and containers!  They definitely don't stay on the ground around here long!  Thanks for playing along with the sketch challenge this week on Create with Connie and Mary!
