Crazy About You One Sheet Wonder Cards

by Joanne James17. November 2015 21:55

I am having a busy week with another two classes today, so today's post is light on words but with lots of pictures to make up for it. I wanted to share the cards we made at my Stamp-A-Stack class last week. My ladies decided they wanted a change from Christmas cards, so instead we did a One Sheet Wonder adapted from a template by LeeAnn Greff. I wanted to go totally bright so we used Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry, Wild Wasabi and Pool Party and flowers from the 'Crazy About You' stamp set along with a little one from 'Flower Patch' and a mix of sentiments from other sets. We made 10 cards in total - here they are:

I didn't add sentiments on many of them - sometimes it's nice to be able to add a sentiment as you use the card:

There you go - 10 cards for any occasion. We had so much fun at this class we are going to do it all again next month, only this time using the Vintage Leaves stamp set to make a set of masculine cards. This class will be on Friday 11th December and the cost for the class is £15 or free with a £45 order. There are still a couple of places available, so if you would like to join us do get in touch to reserve your place.

Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

All is Calm, All is Bright Wonderland Card

by Joanne James15. November 2015 09:00

It's Sunday and time for a new challenge over at The Paper Players! This week it is the turn of the lovely Jaydee to host and she has a clean and simple challenge to get our creative juices flowing this week:

I decided to get to work with my brayer and create a starry night sky over a forest created with my Wonderland stamp set for my card today:

I went for a long, thin card and brayered my background in Night of Navy, masking the moon with a circle of post-it note, then stamped the trees from 'Wonderland' and the santa and reindeer from 'Cozy Christmas'. I added a few stars with my white signo gel pen and a little white kraft ink. I stamped the sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed this in silver on vellum, wrapping it around my card front and finishing with an iced rhinestone embellishment.

So I have something of a confession! I saw the brief for our challenge today and the word 'Wonderland' and immediately reached for my stamp set of the same name to create my card. As I sat back to admire my handywork, I  realised that a true 'Winter Wonderland' would surely have snow on the ground and mine didn't have a single flake in sight - oops! With Onstage Live and a trip to Brussels around the corner and

Before you reach for your ink and papers, check out what our amazing team has created to inspire you this week:

Tis The Season Christmas Snowmen

by Joanne James12. November 2015 08:05

Today it's time for a new challenge over at Create With Connie and Mary and this week we have a great sketch for you:

I decided that each of the flowers in teh sketch would become snowmen on my card today and dug out my 'Snow Place' stamp set and Merry Moments DSP stack and set to work:

I used the colours of the Merry Moments DSP for the various elements of my card and created a snowy background by embossing my Whisper White layer with the 'Softly Falling' embossing folder. I die cut my little snowmen and their accessories with co-ordinating Snow Friends framelits dies - this makes life so easy, no fussy cutting required! My sentiment is from the 'Peaceful Pines' set - it fitted perfectly in my layered circle.

Do visit the other Design Team members to see how they interpreted this week's sketch; there's lots of inspiration over on their blogs too!

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

Autumn Hearth and Home Shaker Card

by Joanne James10. November 2015 07:00

Today I have a card for this week's colour challenge over at TGIF Challenge - here is their colour palette this week:

Before I get to my card though, I would like to give the team over there a big shout out to say thank you for choosing my card as the winner of last week's remix challenge - you can see that card here if you missed it - I love designing for and participating in challenges and it's always nice to be recognised, so thank you!

I used this week's colours to create one of the shaker cards that I will be making in my November technique class, so for any of the ladies booked to attend, today you are getting a sneak peek! Here is my card:

I used Soft Suede for my card base and the window frame that I cut with my Hearth and Home framelits. I stamped my Hardwood and the little autumn scene and sentiment banner from the 'Happy Scenes' stamp set in Soft Suede on Very Vanilla and coloured in the leaves and pumpkins with Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry, given the sky a wash with my aquapainter and a little Crushed Curry ink and some Crumb Cake for the ground (as a permissible neutral). For my shaker element I cut some leaves in the challenge colours using the little die in the Square Pillow Box Framelits set - what a useful little item! I used a couple of these leaves with one of the acorn Wooden Elements and some shredded burlap for an added embellishment to ground my sentiment banner too.

A pretty autumn scene perfectly suited to this week's colours. If you live in or around Northampton and would like to make this and the other shaker cards that I'll be featuring in my November Technique Classes on 16th and 17th November, then do get in touch; I still have a couple of places left if you would like to join us.

That's all from me today; back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Cream Poinsettia Layered Christmas Card

by Joanne James9. November 2015 13:00

Happy Monday everyone! I was fortunate enough to win over at The Challenge a couple of weeks ago - you can see my winning paper-pieced pumpkin card here if you missed it - so they have kindly asked me to be their guest designer this week:

They have a great colour challenge this week with a wonderful inspiration photo too - take a look:

I used the photo to inspire my card today in both colour and design; my regular blog followers will know what a fan I am of Stampin' Up!'s 'Reason For The Season' stamp set and the co-ordinating Festive Flower Builder punch, which I used for the flower on my card today:

I used Real Red for my card base and mat layer, with a Crumb Cake layer embossed with the Modern Mosaic embossing folder. I sponged this with a little White Kraft ink, then on the top Crumb Cake layer I stamped my sentiment from the Wondrous Wreath set and heat embossed this in white. For my poinsettia flower, I used Very Vanilla cardstock and finished the centre with a retired snowflake embellishment. I also tucked a strip of silver glimmer paper beneath it for some added sparkle.

I hope you like today's card - I think the white poinsettia makes a change from a red one and I love the embossed background; I really should use my embossing folders more often!

Do check out the other designers over at The Challenge - they are a talented bunch and have lots more inspiration for this week's colour palette. I have a busy work day ahead; I'm desperately trying to get things up straight before I leave for Onstage in Brussels on Wednesday - let's hope it's productive. Back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

Hearth and Home Winter Snow Christmas Shaker Card

by Joanne James8. November 2015 09:00

It's Sunday and time for a new challenge over at The Paper Players! This week it's my turn to host and I have a festive colour scheme to get your creative juices flowing this week:

I'm not generally a big fan of black and white, but I am fascinated by the idea of black and white with pops of colour and a little sparkle - I find this can completely change the look and feel of a card. I've been spending lots of time this week playing with my Hearth and Home framelits and co-ordinating Happy Scenes stamp set, as this is what my November technique classes will be using. We are also learning how to make shaker cards so I couldn't resist making one to share with you today:

For my card base and window frame, I used extra thick Whisper White and covered the front with a piece of striking black and white patterned paper from the Winter Wonderland Specialty Designer Series Paper - this paper has a lovely sheen to it and looks really luxurious so was the perfect choice for my 'wallpaper'. I stamped my insert using the winter image from the 'Happy Scenes' stamp set in Memento Black on Whisper White, and I used some Tombo Glue, Dazzling Diamonds and White embossing powder to create some dimensional snow on my trees in the same way as I did on my card last Thursday. I also stamped the corner snowflakes on my window in Versamark and heat embossed in silver before adding my foam tape and filling my window with a combination of white and silver sequins and some Dazzling Diamonds. I stamped my sentiment on a simple banner beneath my window and anchored it to my card with a red poinsetta button from the Home For Christmas Designer Button set threaded with silver cord trim. The button is the only spot of additional colour on my card - and I love it!

There's something so special about a shaker card - I guarantee if you give someone a card you can shake it will make them smile!

Before you reach for your ink and papers, check out what our amazing team has created to inspire you this week:

Pear Pizzazz Peaceful Wreath

by Joanne James7. November 2015 22:34

A quick blog post from me today to share a card I made for the current Fab Friday Challenge where this have a great sketch to work with:

I decided that green was the order of the day today and decided to create a calming wreath in greens and silvers using the Peaceful Wreath stamp set:

I stamped the beautiful Peaceful Wreath in Garden Green on Whisper White and coloured it loosely with an aquapainter and Pear Pizzazz ink, highlighting each of the berries with some silver Dazzling Details, before cutting it out using my Wonderful Wreath framelits . I stamped my sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed them in silver, added a split banner, some silver cord trim and some rhinestones for a little extra sparkle.

I love greens - and with the hustle and bustle of the last couple of days, their calming influence is just what need.

I'll be back tomorrow with a new challenge over at the Paper Players; until then, happy stampin'!

White Christmas Clean And Simple!

by Joanne James5. November 2015 08:05

Today it's time for a new challenge over at Create With Connie and Mary and this week we have a great colour challenge for you:

I used the sketch over at CAS(E) This Sketch as the basis for my card today - a largely one layered card, except for the banners and it also showcases a fun new technique:

I used extra thick Whisper White cardstock for my base and stamped two of the three trees from the White Christmas stamp set onto the bottom corner of my card in Memento Black. I coloured the trees in with my Smoky Slate Stampin' Write marker and added a couple of cardinals, coloured in Real Red for a little colour. Now for the fun technique! This was shown to me recently by the lovely Monica Gale who used it on a card stamped with the Wonderland set. for the snow on my trees and on the ground, I added a thin line of Tombo glue, then sprinkled this with Dazzling Diamonds glitter and then white embossing powder, then heated it gently with my heat tool. This causes the glue to puff up and produce wonderfully textured and sparkling snow - such a neat effect. To finish my card, I cut a reverse banner using my Triple Banner Punch - I simply fed the paper in from the underside of the punch and used the piece which normally you would throw away - from a scrap of Merry Moments designer series paper that has Real Red and Smoky Slate stripes. Finally to add a little extra sparkle, I added a thin banner of red glimmer paper - I just love this stuff!

I spent ages working up different cards for this week's colours and eventually settled on this one. It's very pretty in real life and has lots of texture for a predominantly white card, but it was incredibly difficult to photograph and I'm not sure that the picture really does it justice.

Do visit the other Design Team members to see how they used this week's challenge colours; there's lots of inspiration over on their blogs too!

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project; until then, happy stampin'!

Christmas Cuties and Home For Christmas

by Joanne James4. November 2015 10:23

Happy Wednesday everyone! This is my second post today - click here if you would like to see this week's Weekly Deals post. For today's creative project, I have another Christmas card to share with you featuring another of the adorable characters from the Christmas Cuties stamp set and this week's sketch over at Retrosketches:

I also paired my Christmas Cuties with one of my under-used papers with the Home for Christmas designer series paper pack - take a look:

I stamped my image in Archival Black onto Extra Thick Whisper White and coloured it with my inks and aquapainter, then stamped the snow stamp around it in Pool Party. I mounted my stamped image panel onto a piece of Real Red that I had cut out with my scalloped circle framelit, the largest one in the Circles Framelits set. Behind this I used my piece of patterned paper, matted onto Mossy Meadow and a card base of Pool Party. I cut out my sentiment with my retired Word Bubble framelits and popped it up on dimensionals for a little lift.

This is one of those super cute cards that is very satisfying to produce - all that theraputic colouring! I'm happy to have found a layout that makes the most of that lovely background paper too.

That's all from me today; back tomorrow with my card for this week's new challenge over at Create With Connie and Mary. Until then, happy stampin'!
