One More Year CCS560

by Joanne James13. May 2025 12:00

It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge over at CAS Colours & SketchesThis week's challenge is a sketch challenge and Laura who is hosting has asked that we create a square card with a quartered centrepiece:

Feel free to flip or rotate the sketch when making your card.

For my card today I used the colours over at Color Throwdown and decided to create an Andy-Warhol inspired centrepiece, featuring a comical canine favourite - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Yes - it's the dog from the 'One More Year' stamp set - but not quite as you know it! For today's card, I stamped him four times onto white cardstock, coloured with Blends and fussy cut him out, minus his party hat. I backed each image with a square of retired spotty DSP in the challenge colours and mounted each onto a postage die base. I finished with a simple 'hello' sentiment from the new 'Sweet Blooms' stamp set, anchored with an enamel dot:

Super simple and a fun way to give this stamp a different look. This card is going in my stash to send to the youngest James Junior when he is living away at uni - I know this will make him smile!

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

One More Year Birthday Card For Fun

by Joanne James8. May 2025 07:00

Today I'm sharing a card that I made for fun at the weekend to play along with a couple of challenges:

I was intrigued by the colour combination over at TGIF Challenges (thanks for last week's shout-out ladies!) - I don't use Petunia Pop often, so thought I'd give it a try. I paired it with the sketch over at Try a Sketch on Tuesday (turning it through 180 degrees) for a fun birthday card - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

Yes - I am using my now-retired 'One year Older' stamp set - although if you're quick, you can still pick it up on the Last Chance Products section of the online store. I'm focusing on the cake today, which I first stamped all over my Daffodil Delight cardbase for a tone-on-tone background detail. I stamped the first part of my sentiment in a label from the Nested Essentials Dies, and accented this with another cake, this time stamped and coloured with my Stampin' Blends markers. I added some Wink of Stella to give a little extra sparkle to the candle flames, and backed it with a swish of Petunia Pop ribbon and added a sprinkle of enamel dot gems in both Petunia Pop and Balmy Blue to add for the party feel:

Given the sentiment on the front of my card, it seemed only right that I add a party-hat decorated canine friend to the inside of my card alongside the second part of my greeting:

A little snarky I know, but this card is headed to a dog-loving friend of mine who has a birthday later this month and I know will appreciate the sentiment. Now that we are ladies of a certain age, if you can't have a giggle about it, well ...!

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

Enjoy your day; mine's going to be a busy one! I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!

Aging Fine Like Cheese and Wine Birthday Card PP729

by Joanne James16. March 2025 08:00

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's my turn to host this week and it's clean and simple week! So along with minimal layers and embellishments and lots of white space, I have a fun theme for us to work with too:

Use just a single stamped image on your card - aside from a sentiment too if you wish, only one stamped image. A single image makes a great focal point for a clean and simple card; I paired mine with a great sketch layout over at Hand Stamped Sentiments and indulged in a spot of colouring on my card - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

One More Year - I love the 'One More Year' stamp set for fun and quirky cards for both young people and the young-at-heart. In addition to a set of humorous mix and match sentiments, 'One More Year' features a trio of single stamped images that make great focal points too - I used the cheese and wine image, stamped onto a Nested Essentials diecut, adding some simple colour with my Stampin' Blends:

Clean and Simple - In addition to my stamped diecut, I added a couple of banner flags and a twist of gingham ribbon as per the sketch. Ordinarily I wouldn't use ribbon on a clean and simple card, but with such a simple design and that being the only embellishment, it adds detail whilst still allowing the card to have a clean design.

Finishing Touches - I stamped and coloured the same image to decorate the inside of my card and stamped the other half of my sentiment to complete my card:

This is such a great set for clean and simple cards! What images do you like to use on your clean and simple cards? Leave me a comment below or better still, make a card and play along with us over at The Paper Players this week!

One Year Older CCS 553

by Joanne James4. February 2025 12:00

It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge over at CAS Colours & Sketches. Suzy is hosting this month and our first challenge is a colour challenge:

Whilst I love this week's trio of colours, I struggled to make them work together. I tried big and bold but ultimately settled on using each sparingly for a pop of CAS colour - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

One More Year - I do love a funny card, so as soon as I saw the 'One More Year' stamp set I knew I'd have to add it to my collection. Fun images and quirky sentiments, what's not to love? I used the pug on my birthday card today and used the challenge colours for the pup's tongue and party hat with a touch of neutrals for the dog himself:

Centre Focus - The team over at Addicted To CAS currently have 'centre focus' as their theme and my birthday pug was just perfect for a single image to create a central focal point. There's something about his comical expression that just draws you in I think. I'm also linking up over at Inspire Create Challenges where the theme is clean and simple - right in my wheelhouse.

Birthday Fun - The 'One More Year' stamp set is full of fun, quirky sentiments - the one on the front of today's card pairs with this one on the inside:

I used Stampin' Blends to colour my pup, but Stampin' Write markers to colour my sentiment in a combination of Summer Splash and Basic Black; selective inking and a quick huff on the stamp to moisten it before you stamp, this is an easy effect to create. Use a stamping platform too to make alignment easy. Now to decide who to send my quirky pup to!

Here is the visual summary of the key products used on today's project for you to pin for easy reference:

You can see all of my 'How To' summaries on my 'How To - Tips and Techniques' Pinterest board in case you've missed any.

As a reminder, for our colour challenges, you must use all of the stated challenge colours. You may also use neutral colours; however, the challenge colours should be the most noticeable ones featured on your card. We use Stampin' Up! colour names for reference, but you are welcome to use any other companies' products as long as you match the challenge colours as closely as possible.

Enjoy your day and I'll be back tomorrow with another project. Until then, happy stampin'!
