Driving By To Say Hi In A Pink Camper Van

by Joanne James17. February 2022 17:00

Today I'm sharing a card that I made for fun using the sketch over at TGIF Challenges and the pink and blue inspiration board over at Hand Stamped Sentiments , where the same colours feature at Colour Hues too:

I love the pink and blue colours of the HSS board and was particularly drawn to the florals and the pink camper van with the palm trees. It was the perfect opportunity to ink up the cute camper in the Sale-A-Bration 'Driving By' stamp set - take a look:

Here's the low-down on today's card:

I used hexagons cut using my Beautiful Shapes Dies, as opposed to a heart as the basis for design, having cut one in the gold-splattered navy paper from the Abstract Beauty pack, and layered it with gold vellum and a double-edged gold hexagon from the Expressions In Ink Ephemera pack, although you could be forgiven for not being able to tell; I didn't have any palm trees, so I used the retired 'Tropical Chic' stamp set and Tropical Thinlits Dies to create some bi-coloured florals and tropical leaves as a back drop for my fun camper van, that I coloured with Blends. Once I'd started layering, I just couldn't stop! I also added in some gold foliage and gold faceted gems alongside my sentiment to finish:

This is one of those cards that I wanted to create 'just for fun' - the sketch and inspo board were too good to pass up!

A Pair of Tropical Chic Floating Frame Cards JAI480

by Joanne James29. October 2019 19:00

We are still on half term here so I have been spending time with the James Juniors this week and am resting my shoulder so have not managed much in the way of crafting. I have a quick post for you today to share a card for the current challenge over at Just Add Ink:

The ladies are asking us to 'just add a technique' so I decided to have another go at a Floating Frame Card - or rather, pair of floating frame cards. Here's the first one with contains the inside of the frame:

And here's the second one with the outer floating frame:

Here's the low-down on today's cards:

The floating frame technique is really easy to create with a few basic tools: some 'Press and Seal' food wrap or similar, a framelit - I used my Tropical Chic stamps and co-ordinating dies and Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies - and lots of dimensionals! You simply stamp and punch/diecut your images, lay them out, cover with Press and Seal, trim to frame size and cut out your central piece, before adhering dimensionals to the back of the diecut pieces and adhering to your chosen card base. Finally you remove the Press and Seal and your floating shapes remain in place.

Add a sentiment and you're done! These cards are quite time-consuming, but they are fun. I'm thinking I might have to have another go with some other supplies to create a festive version  - watch this space!

Halloween Tropical Chic For PP463

by Joanne James13. October 2019 09:00

Today it's Sunday and time for this week's new challenge over at The Paper Players! It's the turn of our queen of dies, the lovely Laurie, to host this week and she has a seasonal colour challenge for you to work with:

Laurie's Halloween-inspired colours were tough for me this week - I rarely make Halloween cards as they aren't a big thing here in the UK and I don't have many seasonal stamps that would work with all four of these colours. So I decided to go in a completely different direction and armed with Jacquie's sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches went for something more reminiscent of sunnier climes - take a look:

I used my Tropical Chic stamp set and dies to create a vibrant thank you card with a layered base, framing the diecut panel with a thin frame of Gorgeous Grape and adding a trio of blooms stamped in Pumpkin Pie and edged in Gorgeous Grape with a sponge dauber. A pair of dramatic black fern leaves and a glittery enamel dot complete my card.

So what do you think - does it work? This is one of those card that I think will pass, but I'm not sure I love it! Good job the rest of the team have some great cards to inspire you this week!

Tropical Chic Brights Contrasting Card

by Joanne James26. May 2019 20:46

Today extra quick post for a card I made for the challenge over at Inspire.Create Challenge that is about to end this evening:

No photo description available.

I love this bright and bold colour palette and had an immediate idea as to how I wanted to use it - it just took me until yesterday afternoon to find the time to make a card! Here it is:

These colours are perfect for some bright and colourful tropical flowers. I layered the square Tropical Thinlit die with Granny Apple Green and Black for contrast, then added a stamped leaf and a couple of flowers to anchor my sentiment, stamping them in Pumpkin Pie and then added some Poppy Parade to the edges using the 'rock and roll' technique.
